Covid Vaccine

You know, the bottom line is even if the vaccine is not perfect and maybe less effective against delta than originally believed, it's the only defense we've got at the moment. I hope all of my friends here who are not already immune will get it. Look at real data, not anecdotes. I just heard from my friend who works in a clinic that serves our local Hispanic community and it is ramping up here. (They live in close quarters on mushroom farms and they are hesitant to get vaxxed because of immigration status).

Good night all, stay safe.

Hope you’re alright Sarge & everything checks out okay. Hope you feel better soon.

Ok I'll try this one more time.

In places where there are a lot of unvaccinated people, there are a lot of cases that are very heavily weighted to the unvaccinated. In places were almost everyone is vaccinated, there are some clusters where vaccinated people have gotten infected.

Massachusetts is 64% vaccinated. The study occurred in Cape Cod...a vacation town...that lures in people from other states the country over. We will never know how many there were from MA I fear.

Is this concerning? Yes. Does it mean that a larger portion of vaccinated people are getting infected than unvaccinated people? NO.

In this PARTICULAR study, yes it does mean exactly that. From the CDC study:

During July 2021, 469 cases of COVID-19 associated with multiple summer events and large public gatherings in a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, were identified among Massachusetts residents; vaccination coverage among eligible Massachusetts residents was 69%. Approximately three quarters (346; 74%) of cases occurred in fully vaccinated persons (those who had completed a 2-dose course of mRNA vaccine [Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna] or had received a single dose of Janssen [Johnson & Johnson] vaccine ≥14 days before exposure). Genomic sequencing of specimens from 133 patients identified the B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in 119 (89%) and the Delta AY.3 sublineage in one (1%). Overall, 274 (79%) vaccinated patients with breakthrough infection were symptomatic. Among five COVID-19 patients who were hospitalized, four were fully vaccinated; no deaths were reported.

The degrees don't add up. 469 COVID cases were diagnosed out of a population of 64% vaccinated (assuming all cases were from MA residents). Therefore, 346 of those cases were vaccinated people. 123 were not vaccinated.

One would expect that the unvaccinated would represent a LARGER portion of the infected cases given so many people in MA are vaccinated. That 36% of unvaccinated people should have represented a larger number in this test. They did not.

And more worrisome....80% of those hospitalized were vaccinated. That should be the most telling stat.

Thanks. I honestly don't think it's COVID-19. The thing that has me wondering though is the strange nasal discharge and the complete lack of energy. Sinus infections don't do that to my knowledge, but I'm no doctor. But I'm fully vaccinated, and with the breakthrough infections I'm a little concerned as the symptoms, especially the runny nose, is odd. We will see tomorrow I guess.

I suffer from persistent sinus infections, year over year. They drain me. Fatigue is real.

Hoping that is all it is sir.

Ok Commie. You point to a state. Let's have a national discussion.

USA cases, asshat. Feel free to pull the data and analyze it here: https://github.com/owid/covid-19-data/tree/master/public/data/

Cases:

7/28 - 68,771
7/29 - 78,170
7/30 - 194,608
7/31 - 32,808
8/1 - 25,141

Deaths:

7/28 - 387
7/29 - 321
7/30 - 889
7/31 - 144
8/1 - 71

The 7/30 numbers are larger, as are all Monday numbers, because they aggregate the faulty reporting that comes from weekends, where numbers overflow from the weekend into the work week.

The 7 day average for cases NOW is 79.9K. The 7 day average for deaths is 360.

Compare that to June 1, 2021, just 30 days ago:

7 day average cases: 17,248
7 day average deaths: 596

As YOUR President said, cases will rise, hospitalizations and deaths will NOT rise comparably. Cases are now 62,700 MORE per week, deaths are 236 LOWER per week.

Delta variant isn't as deadly and fewer people are dying of COVID.

Moderna's stock is up 345% over a year ago today. Wonder how many of our esteemed representatives hold some.

insider trading is legal for congress. Funny that all of these progressives who supposedly hate capitalism never seem to get around to getting rid of that loophole.

Excellent!!! Look at all that Herd Immunity happening, right? No need for those people to get the jabby jab now. Don't you love biological science in action!!

DeSantis!!
DeSantis!!
DeSantis!!

Because they don't actually know and they are hedging their bets. Eventually I suspect they are going to require boosters for the vaccines because it appears immunity from them may be waning. So far I have seen no studies that show reinfection is more common after previous infection than it is after vaccination. If you have one post it. I'd like to see it. If no one's studying it in a side by side comparison there's no way to know either way. But as far as the data we do have now, infection after either remains rare. I can only assume if there were huge numbers of people getting reinfected we'd be hearing about it. Would be a great advertisement for the vaccines.
They’re hedging their bets with natural immunity at 90 days, they’re not currently hedging their bets at all with the vaccine.

LMAO. So why do you suppose GMU is firing a professor who is naturally immune, something science has shown us is more powerful than the vaccine in battling COVID?

Because ideology and ignorance.

I said 90 days was wayyyyy too short. But given they aren't like other draconian universities mandating all students take the untested mRNA vaxes, I consider this evolution and progress. Eventually, real science - not the 59 genders of science - will prevail.

Back to your point, would you care to elaborate on your failed "impractical" diatribe?
Ostensibly naturally immunized. They’re firing him because it’s their right. They don’t have to change their policy to accommodate him.

Residents of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas rushing to finally get vaccinated is evolution and progress.

Strange how the government cannot be trusted, but FDA approval is gospel.
Strange how the government for the previous four years could not be trusted, but a vaccine that was pushed through via Operation Warp Speed is now the single most trustworthy vaccine in the history of mankind.

I have an appointment tomorrow with my doctor for a covid test. I woke up this morning with a really strange runny nose, and basically I'm so weak I am exhausted. On top of that, the entire right side of my face hurts like hell. My nose runs only when I bend over, like to tie my shoes for example, and the **** coming out of my nose is this really watery orangish-brown ****. No fever or cough or shortness of breath or anything like that. Just an odd runny nose and no energy. Pretty sure it's a sinus infection, but getting tested just to be sure.
my friend who had it said he was exhausted for 10+ days, with a headache. After 12 days, he's feeling better.
his wife said it was the "Delta Male Variant".

Do you have anything to suggest that it would be more practical for a university with thousand of students and hundreds of employees to verify that those that had Covid still have antibodies instead of requiring them to get vaccinated? Anything?
Are you truly suggesting, for the sake of expediency that makes you feel better, that individual's health situations, and health decisions for their own bodies, are necessarily to be subjugated to some bureaucratic policy that is contradictory to scientific data available?

What kind of sycophantic monster are you?

a liberal. the absolute worst kind.

I'm sorry you see it as that simplistic. There are legitimate concerns with possible adverse effects from the vaccines, the speed with which they were developed, the low death rate of covid in general, and especially in young healthy people, the fact that the vaccines aren't a panacea and appear to be even less so in recent days, the fact that there is no data that shows any significant additional benefit to those who have already been infected, the fact that children are at almost zero risk of serious complications or death from covid...etc. etc. I can go on...

I am on balance pro-vax and I want people to get vaxxed, but if you dismiss legitimate concerns as purely ignorance or selfishness you won't convince anyone of anything. If you (the collective you) lie to people about the science as a method of social engineering, you can't get people to trust you when you are telling the truth.
Well said

Strange how the government for the previous four years could not be trusted, but a vaccine that was pushed through via Operation Warp Speed is now the single most trustworthy vaccine in the history of mankind.
It’s not about it being the most trustworthy, it’s about the purpose that it was supposed to serve and what is preventing that. Jonas Salk tested his vaccine on his own children for a disease that paralyzed a fraction of the number of people Covid has killed.

mm hmm
but arent you casually dismissing the absolute medical conditions that some people have that may prevent them from getting the jab? arent you the same one screaming everyone should get it?

maybe we need to dig up Salk's kids and see how they respond to this.

though its ******* amazing that you are equating all of this **** to polio

Strange how the government cannot be trusted, but FDA approval is gospel.

Not at all surprising that you don't see the difference.

The Government has given Americans countless reasons not to trust them. They have failed to ever make a profit on Amtrak. They have spied on Americans for years. They have bailed out businesses they shouldn't have. They have weaponized agencies that go after political opponents. On, and on, and on.

The FDA provides a process that companies must follow to bring a drug to market. It is the PROCESS that makes the drugs "safe" to administer to humans, a PROCESS completed in Capitalist companies' labs, factories, and in the general public. It's not the GOVERNMENT making the drug or testing it.

If the Government was tasked with making the drugs and bringing them to market, then your asinine comment may have a minutia of bearing.

They’re firing him because it’s their right.

Something you clearly love. Chilling.

They don’t have to change their policy to accommodate him.

Nope. Would be funny if companies had a policy that we don't hire Liberals. And if they were able to and it was their right to do so, how fun it would be to watch your head assplode.

You show the problem of Liberalism. Your side loves extreme ideas, until it happens to you. One day it will, again. And watching your dance will be fun. Again.

Mask-free Sweden nears zero daily Covid deaths

As the CDC urges Americans to mask up against the Delta variant, Sweden’s chief epidemiologist has argued that more data is needed about the strain’s infectiousness.

His mask-free nation is hovering at zero Covid deaths per day.

Anders Tegnell said on Friday that there was “a lot we do not know” about Delta and cautioned against drawing “far-reaching conclusions” about the coronavirus strain. He noted that the variant had been circulating in Sweden “for quite some time” with little effect, particularly in high-risk settings such as nursing homes.

It is difficult to say how contagious Delta is, as when it comes to chickenpox, we have been able to follow the disease for several years. The infectivity of Delta seems to be very uneven – in some cases, one person infects a hundred people, then we have other occasions when an infected person does not infect anyone at all,” he told Sweden’s Aftonbladet.

In separate remarks, he pointed to the fact that one-third of the country’s municipalities reported zero new Covid cases over the past week.

And while US health authorities are pressing Americans in “high transmission” areas to mask up, Sweden dropped its last remaining mask recommendation – related to public transport – on July 1.

While Sweden’s public health agency has supported measures such as social distancing and remote working, it has no recommendations for the use of face coverings in public spaces.

Reviled by the media for refusing to impose harsh lockdowns, Sweden’s less draconian approach to the health crisis appears to be paying off: The Scandinavian nation has recorded a total of eight Covid-linked deaths so far this month, an average of 0.25 deaths per day.

Daily hospitalizations have also hovered near zero in July: On most days this month, the country saw between 0-2 Covid-cases requiring hospital treatment. At the same time, daily cases have fallen sharply since April.

It's funny, the evolution we have seen on all of this over the past year and a half.

15 days to slow the curve became 15 months.
Masks work, masks don't.
We need to lock everyone at home to fight this. Turns out home was the worst place you could be.
Knowledge of how COVID spread changed daily and in fantastical ways.
The origins of COVID went from lab leak to pangolin jump to man back to lab leak.
Vaccines went from "no way they will be here by December" to them being injected in people in December.
Vaccines went from no Liberal in the world would take them to many Conservatives don't want them.
Initially we were told the vaccines would help prevent the spread of COVID and lessen the symptoms.
Now we are watching COVID spread among the vaccinated at rates we believe impossible.
We are also seeing the efficacy of vaccines wearing off after months and booster shots being needed.

I'm sure one could add a lot to that list, but here has been the one constant: Natural Immunity.

It was originally surmised that about 1% of the naturally immune would get reinfected. That's still the case. Each time they do a study on those naturally immune....3 months later, 8 months later...they have some level of antibody but more importantly T and B cells to fight future infections.

This is my hunch today (it may change tomorrow). The longer this goes on, the more firmly I believe that the way COVID is "defeated" (it's endemic, it will always be here) is through natural immunity. We just need the majority of us to have had it.

The good news is that you can get the vax and still catch and spread COVID and build up your natural immunity more safely...for those willing to do the mRNA vaxes. Or wait for Novavax.

Just my observation.

June 1st was 30 days ago? Dude..
