Dick LeBeau Out as Defensive Coordinator

Dick LeBeau thanks for everything, you were the best in the business! Don't forget the Steeler organization will get it right. Eventually we will once again have a strong defense with regards to whoever we hire as the new defensive coordinator. It happened when we changed OCs (Wiz, Arainis, Hailey), and the same process will be for our defense. As stated by previous posters, it will be interesting to watch this transition.....but look out once it's complete!!!!! Go Steelers!!!!!

Details are starting to emerge. Cant link the article but check out todays article from the paper that shall not be named. Tomlin maybe seeking to have more input on the defensive side of the ball. He apparently as the season went on did this year.

So a HEAD COACH has to wait for HIS DC to resign before he can have more input on the defensive side of the ball? That's ****** up (if true).

I wonder if Dick will be back after being straight up terminated.

Of course the smart money will be on the Cards since they sign pretty much everyone who leaves the Steelers.

Dick Lebeau is a legend why wouldnt you let him have free reign?

Rut-roh Raggy. The defense got better as the season went on.

Say what you will- the defense did slowly improve as the season progressed.

If this is the case- I would expect Keith Butler or Pepper Johnson as the only candidates. Young or inexperienced DC's that would basically act as co-coordinators with Tomlin. Old vets like Wade Phillips would not be considered.

Um, no...that's the line if you quit during the season...

News Flash: Season's over

NOPE. He let this team down. Left because he couldn't run his defense so he jumps ship. His time in the Burgh is now tainted.

Stillwright, how long has Lebeau been banging your wife?

Why couldn't he find a way to stop the 5 to 10 yard out to every QB in the league.
Because our strong safety through most of his career spends 3/4 of his time at the line of scrimmage doing run and pass blitzes instead of pass coverage which leaves at least one cornerback on an island.

Why couldn't he figure out how to cover the TE?
Because the best way to beat the zone blitz is to use an athletic tight end to expose the weak spot where the blitzing/flowing linebacker has vacated.

I honestly think Dick stepped down for Butler to take over. Butler's contract is up and he himself probably figure now is the time to move forward.
No you don't you bullshit artist. You have an axe the size of New Jersey to grind against Lebeau for some reason. You don't have one good thing to say for Dick Lebeau who's probably been more successful than ANY other coordinator in NFL history on either side of the ball. Has he lost a step? Sure. Does that give you the right to **** all over him like he kicked your dog and provided the DNA for your ******* son? NO.

Dick left for the lack of talent. He wasn't fired. He QUIT...He couldn't run his system here anymore.
Dick Lebeau never quit on anything in his life. He cobbled together a semi-competitive defense with players unsuited to his scheme. Did he adjust to Tomlin's defensive schemes as quickly as he could have? Perhaps not. Did he do as well as possible with pansy assed skirt-wearers not made for the 3-4? Yes. Lebeau Quit... You epic douche.

Which is it....lack of talent? or game passed him by?
The game has changed. There's no doubt there. But there's also no doubt that the talent the Steelers have fielded in the last 6 or 7 years defensively is pretty sad. There just aren't that many marquee players. Does it frustrate me that a player takes years to learn Lebeau's defense? Ya. It does. Do the cushions frustrate me? Sure. I admit it. Did I feel a little concerned that our Coordinator was 77 and frankly the change had to happen sometime? Of course. Does that mean I have any right whatsoever to bash Dick ******* Lebeau?

Hell no.

Hell ******* No.

Thank you Dick for being our coordinator and building those tremendous defenses. Thank you for doing what you could with those players and fielding the defenses you could. And thank you for having the grace and the dignity to be a class act to the very end. You deserve the very best and no matter where you end up, I'm a fan of Lebeau.

And Stillwright, relax. The kid still calls you Daddy.

tainted ? Really tainted ? No freaking way..he did a great job here for 10 years ...I could care less if he quit was forced out...whatever it is ...but there is nothing tainted about his time here

Dude , whatever med you are on, I'd reconsider it. You are hallucinating.

............. FIFYinz

So is Dick goung someplace new? Whats the scoop on all that anyway? Why did he resign if not to retire?

Rumor is he may wind up in Arizona if they lose their DC, Todd Bowles to a head coaching job.

Well, appears that Butler will be named DC as early as tomorrow (according to a local news source).

As for LeBeau, its been revealed that the organization opted to NOT offer him a new contract. Pitt previously gave Dick one year deals, but this year it chose to not offer a contract and the two opted to mutually part.

So it looks like its gonna be Keith for certain......Welcome aboard KB...now get to work now on fixing this defense

Try not to be a total imbecile if you can help it. You are tainting the board with your gibberish..

LOL...nice job on the quoting feature.. I had you working on this post. I was just ruffling some people's feathers on that post as you obviously know...Quit...Nope. As I stated in another thread i believe Butler figured it was his time to become a DC. Whether it was here or somewhere else was up to Dick and the Steelers. Dick did the noble thing and stepped a side.

Great 10 years? If his last 5 years were first would there of been another 5 years following them? The man helped bring us 2 SB's. Can't ever take that away....the defense was awesome....the last 5 years not so much. I was just screwing with people on the tainted thing. Sorry. I think it was a great thing for him to step down to give Butler his shot finally. Hopefully it works out.

Two of the last five seasons our scoring defense ranked #1. The last 2 years were the worst and we were middle of the pack. The other year we ranked 6th.

They were some bad #1 ranked defensive's. We couldn't generate any TO's. Gave up 3rd down after 3rd. Look it is what is. You can go off the rankings if you want but you obviously forget how we poorly we played.
