Coordinators Thread

Is there an almost complete staff list yet?
They are missing a D-line, OLBer, Secondary, and TE coach and special teams. I forgot the secondary coach left for the Vikings. So as of right now they are down 5 coaches.

OK. We have some new coaches...under Big Mac. Would any of these coaches agreed to work under Tomlin? I would answer " no".

The Steelers have found a new special teams coordinator.

Via Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Pittsburgh is expected to hire Danny Crossman for the role.

Crossman, 59, is a longtime special teams coach. After coaching at the college level for several years, he made his way to the pros as a Panthers special teams assistant in 2003. He’s since served as special teams coordinator for Carolina, Detroit, Buffalo, and Miami.

Hard to tell how big the staff is going to be. I've seen they're going to expand it, but all I've seen so far is adding new titles (passing game coordinator) to existing position coaches. It would be good to see a straight up pass/run game coordinator. Chief of staff is the only new position so far.

He landed the job by stuffing a whole pouch of Big League Chew into his mouth.

Around the division, I have seen a bunch of comments that Baltimore is building an excellent staff. The focus have been these three:

OC Declan Doyle - 7 years experience at the NFL level; 1 year as a non-play calling OC

DC Anthony Weaver - 14 years NFL experience; 2 years as a DC, very good first year, major decline in performance from year 1-2; people love this quote: “I’m old school. I may sit up here I’m a nice guy I smile I do all those things, but all of our problems that we need to solve can be solved through violence”

OL Dwayne Ledford - 4 years NFL experience; helped turn the Falcons from one of the worst to a very good rushing team; 4th fewest sacks allowed since 2021

Not saying these aren't quality coaches, but the comments out there are making it sound like Minter is assembling one of the greatest coaching staffs in NFL history.

Looks like Scott Tolzien is out of the running.

Rumor is that he wanted to call the plays..

McCarthy flat out said he would be calling the plays in his first press conference, so Tolzien had to be aware that wasnt in the cards for him when he first started talking to the Steelers.

I liked the idea of having a younger, rising coach as OC to complement McCarthy in the gameplanning, but from Tolzien's point of you, it might not be enough of a promotion to leave his current job.

I also wouldn't be shocked if Rooney wanted a discount since Tolzien wouldn't be calling plays.
