I wanted a young offensive innovator as a coach. MM was not the worst hire, but he was a super conservative safe hire. I have always thought MM was a good coach and was very good with offenses. In hindsight sight I can see why the steelers picked MM. MM would gain instant respect from the players, while some new hot shot coach might have had trouble gaining the locker room especially after Tomlin. I am not caught up in wins and losses and just hope to see an improved product. Alot of our Tomlin wins were due to crazy defensive plays at the last minute. It was not 100% luck, but that is not a sustainable way to win. I would like to see an actual NFL offense and a defense that is not a preseason vanilla defense

I don’t remember one person on this board being happy with MM being hired

Almost everyone wanted a young offensive oriented coach and a reset of the entire organization to a McVay style organization.

Most of it right now is just us fans perpspective. I guarantee Dallas and Green Bay fans had a laugh at us over MM’s hiring because of how it ended at their place with him.

I gaurantee if Tomlin becomes a HC again that fan base will also be largely swooning over the changes he makes in year 1 camp. And no offense to those here happy with what they see from MM, I like what I hear too.

Coaches do have the right to reinvent themselves and learn from mistakes. Look what Arians did after getting pushed out here. As has been mentioned it’s all about the W’s and L’s real soon

I mean we really won't know until after the season if it was a great idea or not. My guess is if we hadn't been struggling on offense so much and had a bona fide franchise QB in place they may have gone young defensive coordinator again but I'm guessing they wanted a good offensive mind to usher in the new QB whoever he happens to be and to get that system in place ahead of time prior to the QB. The O Line is set so that's a big deal but they can't take 5 years to get a great QB because by that time the line is gonna be on the backside of their career. The window to get a QB is 2 to 3 tears max. Problem I have AV is where rhe hell is the draft capital for next year? Unless they give away the farm there doesn't seem to be planning around the 27 draft. Like I said, would have rather kept Pickens and got a 3rd rounder comp pick next year. Moreover, trade Highsmith since you signed Herbig etc etc

Dream Scenario.....Tomlin decides to coach in 27 and we get some picks.......that would be amazing lol

I wish I was as optimistic as you about the OL, there’s investment there but not results, we can hope. We will find out if they were poorly coached or poorly drafted in the next 2 years

Yeah the’re gonna half to be unsteeler like and give up future high picks to move into the top 10 for a QB in 2027-which I am fine with…hopefully Rooney and Omar will be too

Well think about it

Post Pouncey we had a mess at center for a while then they draft a very good Center in Frazier and play him at ...........Center......... BRILLIANT!!!

We played a LT we never meant to keep in Moore, while drafting a LT in the 1st in Jones moving him to right, only to move him back to left while drafting another LT in the 1st in Troy moving him to right. Honestly, the lomg term planning on LT was one of the most moronic thought processes ever assembled by a coaching staff.

Now we have an emerging LT playing his natural position in Troy and another 1st round LT as a backup at LT.............BRILLIANT!!!! How did they figure that out????

We took McCormick as a LG in college moved him to right guard.......Hes going back to his original position at LG........BRILLIANT!!! replacing Seumalo who missed 7 games the last 2 years who frankly was on the back side of his career.

We drafted an emerging RT this yyearin the first with massive upside to play .................drumroll.......... RT!!! BRILLIANT!!!

This year we draft a RG to play.......drumroll again.............. RG......BRILLIANT!!!

Think about it, aside from the FA signing of Isaac, we've played LT, RT, RG at their unnatural positions along with the Kendrick fiasco at Center over the last several years

It really could be night and day. As you know a line needs to be a unit and what better way to F things up but to have almost your entire line learning new positions.while learning to play with one another for the first time as well. And they weren't bad last year. I think they could be very good with continuity, health, and proper coaching. You've got 2 1sts, a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th round pick invested there and we have some versatile depth.

I personally wanted one of the young up and coming young offensive minded guys.....didn't like the McCarthy pick. He has grown on me though. I unfortunately the deal that he signed up for included A A ron .....Rooney wouldn't have it any other way...... or he was all in on it. It is what it is. Even with A A ron....we will see change this up and coming season. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!

Several of us had been preaching that for years

Classic situation of a lazy long term employee phoning it in; but on two counts

Tomlin’s guys to Tomlin himself AND Tomlin in the Owner-HC is relationships

Change was the way

Tomlin had some good years, they were just a long, long, long time ago in a galaxy far far away where he had a franchise Jedi Roethlisberger there to come to his rescue

Well the Texas were a monstrous defense last year .......i mean they were all world good. You have to at least say our O Line has improved over the last 3 years from what was atrocious. I didn't say they were great last year. I would say average but young and improving. Putting high draft talent in the proper positions this year will make them better. Fortunately the cake part of their schedule is the first half so they have 8 games or so to become cohesive before they have to play really hard teams and prove themselves.

Even better, if he coached a team we hate, like the rats, cheaters or bungles. Then we can count on beating them every time.

I would venture to say that many players respected and feared Bellichek but didn't exactly love the guy. I think players having love for each other being brothers is more important than feelings for a coach. Bradshaw had a very difficult relationship with Noll but he'd be the first to tell you that Noll brought out the best in him and he respected him as a coach and a teacher. In the end the coach the players feel will put them in the best position to win is what's important......belief and respect ill take over love. In fact they can love their coach and respect him as a person and yet believe he's outdated or not capable and that's not good. Buy into the system and work your *** off......love is for double ds

And that is why I pretty much ignore anything AI sourced posted in forums. Almost every time I do a google search the AI summary contains errors. There is a reason the phrase AI slop has entered everyday vocabulary.
 
I actually like the idea of focusing on the basics every single day instead of trying to reinvent everything in training camp. Ball security, tackling, and finishing plays are the kind of things that end up deciding close games over the course of a season. I was browsing a few different forums earlier, including onedun , and it's always interesting to see how fans break these ideas down. Hopefully this approach translates into fewer mistakes when the regular season starts. It definitely sounds like a solid foundation to build on.

A lot of the coaches have their philosophies broken down into key fundamental pillars. I think Mike T discussed some of the same things. Whether or not he had it broken down into some written thesis or not I have no idea. It all comes down to whether or not you can get your guys to employ your philosophy effectively or not. Jessee Minter has four pillars of defense Yada Yada Yada. It all sounds great ........let's see if Mike can create change on the field. I'm hoping
