10 Reasons why Montana is the GOAT not Brady

You can't really compare era's. The QB's pre-1980 had a completely different set of rules for both themselves and their WR's. Post Blount rule it got easier. Then you have the glorified flag football/protect the QB rules the Brady's and the like have always played in and you can't compare. For all those who say Brady is the best, could he take the beating of those past era's, and could his midget *** dink and dunk WR's survive a corner/safety being able to hit them?

Now, take the Montana's, Tarkenton's, Unitas, Bradshaw, Staubach and players of that ilk and allow them free reign to chuck and duck with flag football offensive rules. He wouldn't be in the top ten discussion if you could do all that. He was a late pick for a reason, and to act like the cheating wasn't a major contributor is ridiculous. And then there's the opponent the last two Super Bowls basically gifting them wins where they were beat too. Belichick is a genius my ***. **** those cheating fucktards and anyone who defends them and means it.

Tommy "Lance Armstrong" Brady, GOAT player my ***. We as fans can only hope one day the truth comes out to all the cheating / fixed / league decisions / etc. ect.ect.. How anyone can even consider his GOAT status is unreal. Watch the games as overwhelming evidence is surfacing more and more.......obviously

That is the problem they destroyed the depth of the cheating (evidence) so now they can blow it off as not serious.

We are just haters.

League is out to get them. Despite being caught over and over and over again.

Sorry, I, too am a huge Notre Dame fan, but most of your information here is incorrect.
Montana won his first two SBs WITHOUT Jerry Rice and Brent Jones.
Roger Craig was not there for Montana's fourth.
With the exception of Ronnie Lott ( all 4 SBs ) and Charles Haley ( just the last 2 SBs ) the 49ers defenses of the 80s were average to below average. Nowhere near the caliber of the Patriots of the 00s.

I've chimed in on this in other threads multiple times.
Montana is absolutely the GOAT.
The only stats that matter are he played in 4 SBs and won 4 SBs and in those SBs he never threw an INT. The biggest game on the biggest stage under the most pressure and zero mistakes.
Brady cannot say this.

I don't know what Niners team you remember....first, Craig was in 3 of 4 Super Bowls, and scored the last TD of Montana's fourth (vs Den, 55-10).

As for defense -- they had a terrific secondary with Lott, Eric Wright, Dwight Hicks, and Pitt's own Carlton Williamson. Keena Turner was a maintstay at LB for much of the decade. Hacksaw Reynolds was terrific early in the decade, Matt Millen and Romanowski, later. Haley was literally unstoppable. The DL was always stout -- whether Dwayne Board, Kevin Fagan, Michael Carter, Fred Dean, others I am surely forgetting. My point is, their D was Top Ten, for many years of the decade. Maybe not on par with the Giants and Bears, but plenty good. And I think better than any of the Patriots' defenses.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Just to add one more very good player from those defenses you happened to not mention, Eric Wright was an excellent corner that everyone forgets made a touchdown saving... albeit horse collar... tackle after Dwight Clark made “The Catch”. That famous play never becomes such if Wright doesn’t horse collar Drew Pearson to the ground.

I just reread your post and you absolutely did mention Wright.... my bad. I don’t have my glasses on... sorry.

Have you noticed lately that if anyone gets withing a couple yards of Bwady lately, he immediately heads for the ground? GOAT my ***.

Can you imagine what the hit Turkey Jones put on Bradshaw would have done to Tommy boy?

How about more recently the broken nose hit on Rothlesberger................Lance Brady would have been out

He drops like a 2 dollar hooker when they get within 3 yards of him. I laugh every time. There isn't a player in the history of the league who hates getting hit more. I've seen plenty of punters and placekickers that are more physical.

Montana's wins were far more convincing. 2 of Brady's SB wins were the result of bonehead coaching decisions. Plus, he's lingered for nearly 20 seasons in a cupcake division aided by cheating, and at least for this season a shady replay official who has gifted him at least 2 games in the standings and maybe more.

4 wins in this years standings.

Montana was my favorite player growing up and not really sure why. I even cheered against the Steelers for the first time when montana was on the chiefs. I do not think my best friend spoke to me for like a week after the playoff game.

It is near impossible to compare eras. Way too many variables. The 49ers were pretty stacked with Rice, Taylor, Roger Craig, Jones as TE on offense and guys like Lott on D. Then you had Bill Walsh and the "new" system it took a while for the D to catch up. Montana's superbowl stats are off the charts and I highly doubt any QB will get near them. Either way still have to give Brady his props and you cant go wrong with either one.

This. Why, if Brady isn't considered the best because of, among other things the rules, should Montana? Montana's entire career was played after the Mel Blount rule.

I hate comparing too. I just think there are too many variables.

It's not just the stats for me, Montana is the only complete QB I've ever seen: Deep ball, short ball, reading D's, throwing on the run, running ability, managing the clock, clutch when he had to be, patient with the ball, playoff QB rating......and on and on.

To me he was a unique talent that will probably always be the GOAT. He had NO flaws in his game, his only fault was injury but that wasn't related to his game.

As someone else said; Brady couldn't carry Montana's jock. Brady while great is overhyped by NFL marketing.

I saw Joe Montana play, Brady is not in any way in his class, but really no one is.

My bad on Craig. I thought he was there for Joe Cool’s first three, and it was his last three.
Keena Turner was a solid staple for the entire 80s. I wasn’t trying to slight him.
And it looks like statistically you may be correct on the rankings for most of the 80s, probably overshadowed by their O and the other “name brand Ds” you mentioned.

could you imagine how many Super Bowls the 49ers could have won if they had an earpiece in Joe's helmet? ****, the old ******* would still be out there.
