1st 3rd Round Pick allar

We could even say they failed at times to adequately help both.

You have to solidify trenches and stock the WR room with capable.

Teams can’t expect their franchises to carry them to greatness. It has to be a healthy balance…

I wished Tomlin had known this through out parts of Ben’s career.

How many sucktitude OLs did Ben carry this team through…….?

Salute the nation

Correct,
You're not sure how it strengthens my point? My point was that, contrary to what was said, Allar did have "some" receiving weapons. I didn't say alot. But, some. You pointed out that two of the four that I referenced couldn't really be attached to him. That left two (one of whom was excellent) weapons that he had during his 2 full years as a starter. Wrs? No. TEs though ... he had one serviceable weapon and one All-American, 1st round draft pick.
As far as what he can or can't do with weapons surrounding him, I do believe that I have said "Let's see"; because he'll have some here.
Correct, ONE TE is apparently enough weapons for you I guess. No WR, BUT ONE TE. If that's what constitutes having at least solid targets, not sure why we bothered trading for Pittman or drafting Bernard, I mean we have DK and Muth, more than enough right?

I mean. If you say so.
This kinda reminds me of the Kenny Pickett thread. Will be interesting to see if it ends better for the die-hards.

If 1 WR has been good enough for Omar up until this year, why not? Seriously, whatever happened to the idea that a good QB makes those he works with better? If Drew, or Howard for that matter, NEED elite talent at every WR spot in order to succeed, the Steelers are going ti have to keep looking for QB1.
Howard's best season at KSU compared to his only season at OSU
KSU 2,643 yards 61.3% 24 TDs 10 INTs
OSU 4,010 yards 73.0% 35 TDs 10 INTs

If my QB can make that type of jump when surrounded by talent, I roll with him and make sure the offense has playmakers.

Both qb's will shimmer and shine in ota's and camp. Things happen in the nfl. Teams might call expressing interest at some point.

Howard at KSU was not a full time starter. So yeah, heckuva junp from apples to oranges.
In any event, let me say this one more time for those who can’t seem to get it. I don’t think either Howard or Allar is the answer. Love to be wrong about one or both. However, our “real” QB1 has not left the college (maybe HS) ranks.

It is pretty amazing that Penn State brought in these three receivers, all seniors, to bolster a weak wide receiver room in 2025...and none of them were even good enough to be drafted.

Franklin botched last year so badly. It was correct for PSU to be ranked 2 at the start. They did have 8 guys drafted. They had the talent as they showed when they outplayed Indiana for about 58 minutes before their epic last minute drive.

He brings in new DC Jim Knowles. Great. But Knowles defense did not fit the PSU roster. Franklin could have directed him to modify what Knowles does but he didn't. He allowed Knowles to install his system that required big DTs to stuff the run. PSU had small, gap shooting DTs. They were gashed. And when Rojas got injured, the wheels came off. The defense got better down the stretch because Terry Smith made Knowles adjust.

Same thing on offense,. Offense was better after Franklin because Smith forced Kotalniki to throw more vertical passes. And to feature Kaytron over Singleton when it became obvious how much more productive Kaytron was.

Total mismanagement of TE and WR. They wasted time forcing to the blocking TE DInkins. It took Terry Smith to have them feature the #3 TE Rappelyea and he produced. Hudson was the least talented of the 3 new WRs and he was the guy they featured. They misused Pena and Ross who both could have been good if used correctly. He outright refused to play Koby Howard much at all.

Allar struggled vs Villanova because nobody was open. Kotalniki's offense fooled nobody. It only worked in 24 because Warren was a beast. It was so basic. Allar's INT against Oregon in OT was a bad throw but it was also like the 3rd time they ran that same play so Thieneman knew it was coming.

The footwork thing doesn't concern me. That's an easy coaching fix. Allar needs work on having a killer instinct. I think Franklin beat that out of him. He needs to get some aggressiveness back. It may help to actually have soem open WRs to throw to.

Howard threw 84% of Kansas State's passes in 2023. The backup got 1 start and basically played in garbage time the rest of the season.

True. Which does nothing to dismiss my belief that neither he, nor Allar, are the answer. I’m not understanding how I can say that in a more clear and understandable manner.

Folks comparing the two as if one’s shortcomings or achievements will make the other a better candidate are missing my point.
Howard has an “adequate” arm and less athleticism. And, as pointed out, his best year came with a loaded tOSU roster. So, he doesn’t have a history of elevating those around him either. I anticipate he’ll be a good backup.
I don’t think if you put Allar as the QB of that 2024 tOSU team, that they become Champions. His accuracy issues, decision making while under pressure and lack of the clutch gene are reasons why. And also are reasons why I think his ceiling is lower than others do.

Come on they are rookies, that fact works for vet QBs
