1st 3rd Round Pick allar

Got the physical tools for sure. Those six inches between the ears are the issue. Magic Mike might need every trick he has to fix that.

A better upside than the remaining QBs.

Now there's 3 QBs on the roster. No room for A-aron? lol

76. Steelers: Drew Allar, QB, Penn State

Grade: B

Allar is the perfect quarterback in this class to take for Mike McCarthy to develop. He's got the size, the arm, and the feet to evade pressure in the pocket. Unforuntately, he's never had the accuracy. Can Mike McCarthy fix that? If the new head coach can, Allar can start in the NFL

A third-round QB became obvious, it was a matter of which one. We took the one with the best physical tools. Again, this is why you hire an offensive coach. The Steelers needed to take some swings at a QB and they did here. Until they find one, they aren't going anywhere.
It was also fairly obvious it was going to be Beck or Allar (or a late round flyer on Payton if both Beck and Allar were off the board by 76). Once Beck went to the Cardinals, the Steelers were left with Allar.

Similar sentiments were expressed abut Rudolph. I wouldn't put too much stock in comments from "sources" - teams are always going to talk up their players.

I believed those statements about Rudolph at the time. That was a loaded QB draft. People forget what a great college career Rudolph had. He likely would have been a 1st rounder in a draft with fewer QBs.

As a coincidence, Rudolph and Allar shared OC Mike Yurcich. He went from Ok State to Penn State until Franklin scapegoated him midway through Allar's first year as a starter. Allar had 3 OCs at Penn State.

First of all I say welcome, and here’s to new beginnings Drew.

Of course I get a little concerned when I read reviews like the one below with those stats against actual decent competition. We all know how many patsy teams that load up stats are played in College Ball. Obviously he’s got a live, strong arm. Anthony Richardson?
Tape…..while I admire your dedication I seem to remember you during the actual games commenting your disappointment many times on here during game play. That low completion percentage concerns me. That’s not just low…it’s putrid. The TO’s.

Obviously I hope for all the success in the world for our new pick.

Allar peaked in 2024, leading Penn State to a 13-3 record and appearance in the CFP semifinals. He is a big pocket passer with the anticipation, release and arm strength to throw into tight windows over the middle. Allar drives the ball on seam routes and hole shots on the outside. He is an experienced starter who can get through his progressions. Allar is not a big-play threat that teams will be keen on executing designed quarterback runs with, but he scrambles for first downs and avoids negative plays with his legs. He was plagued by poor to average performances against top teams, holding a 1-7 record against AP top-10 opponents in college. In these marquee matchups, Allar had low completion percentages (around 48% to 50%), as well as key turnovers in losses against top-six opponents. He is an intriguing prospect because he is so physically gifted as a passer, but inconsistent big-game performance and injury are areas of concern. Allar had season-ending surgery on a broken left ankle in November. -- Scouts Inc.

Allar was being talked about as a first round pick had he gone into the draft after his junior year in 2024. This season was a mess.

You can't teach what he has going on from a physical standpoint. I'm hoping the coaching staff can coach up the consistency. I'm actually excited to see how he and Howard develop under McCarthy.

I also like his speed when he takes off running considering he's 6'5 and 230.

If it was a different coach, I would probably be a lot less excited.

Perhaps Allar's tough season at PSU makes him better NFL QB than a guy that had a great season, won the National Championship and got sidelined by his pinky.

Who was the last QB from PSU or OSU to win the SB?

I think that was a reach fest, I’m not talking about a Halo binge, Red Bull and s*** food with your besties. They were half a round off with 1 and a round off with 3a. I think one should’ve been a trade back. I liked haulcy there at 3a. Wish both of them well, but, that’s my opinion on it. I think Rudolph earned a courtesy trade, Jacksonville seems like an ok landing spot (Rudolph, pick 230 for 203.) Sometimes, it’s about the player and doing what’s best for them. He’s similar to Lawrence in build and may be a better backup than Mullins. Warm weather can do wonders for a vet. Maybe Howard gets dealt, who knows? I wouldn’t be able to properly appraise that.
