Fair enough, but Ben is an anomaly, and he'll forever be Miami Ohio's highest ever draft pick.
The system in which a player develops has to be factored into NFL readiness, and even then, does the player fit the NFL team's system? Wouldn't you agree that team's like Oklahoma, Purdue, and Stanford produce more NFL ready QB's than say a Penn State, Virginia, or Arkansas?
Yes, analyze the player first, but also take into account what program and system that he is coming from. I don't think this is an either or argument.
Systems are indeed a key factor, If analyzing the system it gives less credence to the don’t draft from certain programs theory (over long periods of time) as systems and coaches change frequently.
If it is one of those entrenched coaches that has been there for 10,15,20+ years you likely want their players because of their coaching, system, high level recruitment. So as you were saying I guess system/coaching more crucial than school
Logo/history.
The top entrenched coaches generally have excellent talent and teams scoop up tons of their players. I’ll take my chances on GA RBs, TEs all day cuz Kirby gets top talent in there. Guys like Saban, Smart etc generally have tons of their guys snatched up because their rep/coaching/recruiting are all top notch.
Ben certainly was an anomaly, so was Josh Allen, so was Mahomes. Seems the great QBs run 50/50ish
Some great talent from Small schools and some bigger schools like Bama, LSU, GA get tons of five star recruits and thus several drafted QBs.
I think NIL and the portal will reshape this landscape as guys more evenly disperse around the college ranks. Those QB2-3 behind 4&5 star entrenched starters will simply move on to an inside track to a starter role and more $$$ and guys will be coming from everywhere.
And don’t sleep on Arkansas QBs

with the 32nd pick of the NFL draft the Steelers select Taylen Green
