320 carries, 1447 yards, 4.5ypc, 17tds, long 52
64 catches, 587 yards, 9.2ypc

321 carries, 1291 yards, 4.0ypc, 9tds, long 27
85 carries, 655 yards, 7.7ypc, 2tds

The top numbers are Williams, now he started 10 games so I averaged it out to a full season, Bell sat out vs Cleveland so his numbers would be a bit higher.

Williams cap hit was 1.4 million that season.

Everybody has seen these numbers before Coryea but for some reason Bell has become irreplaceable. Maybe it's the truth and we are the dumbasses but although Bell is a top notch RB, he still isn't a big play game changer.

It won't be very hard to get two capable backs to platoon the same numbers for about 30% the money.

Even three backs for 50% of the money....whatever.

yes... because stats tell the ONLY story...

and you can TOTALLY compare one year to another two years later and have them mean the exact same thing...

Well our OL is so great now shouldn't we be able to just plug one or two other guys back there to carry the rock?

No running back is worth the $$ Bell is asking. We could sign McKinnon from the Vikings for 5-6 mill a year and have 10 extra mill to sign a ILB

Is Bell the best back in football?
Arguably, but I say yes.....HELL YES!
Is he worth retard money nearing that of top ten QB money? No......HELL MUTHA LOVIN’ NO!

Yeah exactly, but you can't say that because people take it as you putting Bell down.
Take the money out of it and every person on this board would keep him

If projecting stats were legitimate...

Before last year, Bell couldnt make it without injury. Then he did.

There is nothing to suggest Williams could carry that manyh touches. Out of his whole career, he had more than 200 touches 4 times. Once for 273...in 2008.

They used two back in Carolina so he never had to have that many touches.
It's not like he started 2 games and I projected the rest, he started 10 games.

Agreed.
But in this day and age it’s all about the Benjamins for the players, and all about dollars and (common) sense for the team.
If this is pre FA, we’re not even talking about this.
But it’s post FA, and while I would love nothing more than to keep Bell, I don’t want to at the expense of bankrupting our team to the point we can’t fix our overly flawed D.

I totally agree with you, especially when you look back over the last several super bowls, there weren't many dominant rbs and alot of teams used multiple backs, hell, without looking, can anyone name who the leading rusher was for GB the season they beat us? Lynch has 1257 yards for Seattle the year they won, that's 78 yards per game.
QB and defense is what you need.

So tell Ben to take a discount hes made Alot of money over his career..tell Ben to take way less so Bell can make some money and stay with the team.

Ben you have to pay since the offense just does not function at a high level without him.
Bell although a key member and multi-purpose offensive weapon you can replace much easier than a franchise QB. I would not over pay for this guy to put us in a position that it puts restraints on shoring up this defense. If he can’t agree to sign a contract fair to him and the team then tag him and trade him for the best offer.
He was offered a contract that would have put him well ahead of the other RB’s. He wants to set the precedent for RB’s with some ridiculous contract so I say let him do it elsewhere.

Projections can work in certain situations. 10 out of 16 is only 62% of the total. Projecting 1 or 2 games is one thing. Projecting 6 is quite another.

The point, with the #of touches, has nothing to do with their 2 back system, and everything to do with durability. A back with that few touches in the twighlight of his career is unlikely to be able to handle 320 touches.

What Williams did for us was fantastic. I maintain it was the exception rather than the rule. We, absolutely, could grab a guy that is more than serviceable and pay a lot less than Bell. I think it is a much larger probability that we miss, though Overall, I think Bell is the best back. He adds a dimension very few can.

All that is irrelevant, though, if we cannot afford him. If we can get a deal with $10m-$11m cap hits, I think it is worth it.

So today is the day they can throw a tag at him if they choose to?

Any word on how the negotiations are going, if anything?

Need mo money
**** the rest
RB I'm the best

Sorry youing man
Here is as much as I can
11/2 times the next
Just received your text

Me a sittin
But not quitin
Might retire
If my desire

Please oh great
What the hell
We want you back
Mr. Bell

Raise the stake
Mo money in the cake
My shoes be a walk in
Green backs do the talkin

This Bank
Is all we can clank
There's the door
Go look for more

About sum it up ????
TEAM FIRST.!!! If Bell can find it in his humble mind to sign a team friendly deal GREAT but for the bank stops at his door then I
Think he should move along and let someone else set the new rate for RBs. We just can't afford it without cap hell. A franchise tag is just one year, so yes that is doable where as he won't sign a 3 yr deal as he is going to want a 5 year deal all GAURANTEED.

Salute the nation

I want Bell back, but for the money he is asking, I'd pass. He is NOT WORTH THAT MUCH.

Several things stand out:

1). Durability - typically can't make it through an entire season, and when he did (this year), it did not make a difference.
2). When was the last time you've seen him break one and take it to the house? When was the last time he outran someone?
3). When was the last time we needed a tough yard or two and he hit the hole straight on, no skipping, and just got the yard. (Maybe it was due to playcalling, but sometimes you just need to plow forward without all the hesitation).

Best back in the league, maybe, but if I had to choose between Bell and Bettis, I'd take Bettis every day and 10 times on Sunday.

10-11 per I'd be on board for sure. I agree he's the best rb in football, but I just don't see him or any RB being worth what he's asking, you can get good production at a way lower cap hit

Good, sure. You want to settle for "good"? We can get better than good as a Straight RB for less, maybe. What we can't get is the RB and catching ability, IMO,

when he did (this year), it did not make a difference.

oicu8ad, how can you say that? He had 6.2 yards per touch in that one PO game and 2 TD's. Bell made a difference in that game. It was others who ****** up and that lost that game for us.

No, today was the fabricated date the Steelers and Bell were supposed to have a long term contract done by.

They can tag him anytime before the start of Free Agency (Early March).

Doesn't work that way Tommy. We still have people on this board bitching about Pouncey's cap hit as a Center wanting us to start any journeyman in his place?

Skill players are irreplaceable. Look at what happened when Shazier went down. You just don't step in and replace these guys with their backup. Its a rarity.
