2019-20 Penguins and NHL Offseason

More sloppy defense. Now it's 3-2 caps.

What a play by Malkin...so pretty. Tied up with 11 to go.

Well I tuned in just in time to see Pettersen cough up the puck and get the Caps comeback started. I turned it back off in hopes it will help stop the bleeding.

I think the team we seen a few months ago that was relentless on defense is officially gone. First time Sid has come unglued for awhile too.

I didn’t watch. Glad I didn’t. How did Sid come unglued?

When does Sid put this team on his shoulders and will a victory? This is getting annoying!

I couldn't make watching the game on tv I had the dvr on. Think ill pass on getting angry today.

Can’t do much when your roster weighs 190lbs at most.
The Pens can play a damn good speed/strategy game and held in for the most part.
The caps are just a bigger/physical team and neutered the Pens strategy in the 3rd. The only ones willing to power through that is Malkin and Hornqvist. As boneheaded as Malkin can be, he is a tough cookie and is not afraid to get into scrums and hits. Rumor mill is the Pens are looking at Wayne Simmonds. If so, hopefully the Pens get some confidence in these type of games while still playing hockey.

Pettersen was garbage today. I think this game is different with Marino and Riikola.

Been reading Simon had another stinker of a game. Not surprised, but I don’t understand why he is on the team much less the 1st line.

Caps own the Pens, thats all there is to it

This has been the problem the past 2 years. There is no way they are going to beat the Caps in a 7 game series with this group. The playoffs are more physical. During the cup runs the pens were just faster than everyone plus they had Cole and Bonino that were both over 6' and Cole was 220+ Lbs.

I hate to keep bringing this up but that trade that sent away Reeves made my blood boil.

Caps picked up Ilya Kovalchuk for a 3rd.

Well it's obvious they had better commit to better defense soon or they have no chance of a deep playoff run. This giving up 3+ goals a game aint gonna cut it.

That trade put the organization behind to 2014 days.
I agree. It wasn’t just Reaves. At the time we had Cole(big body), Oleksiak, although not the best enforcer, he was confident with Reaves in the mix. Don’t forget the fact the D men were playing pretty good.

That roster had confidence and Sullivan/Rutherford butchered it.

Now Jimmy is trying to bring back that toughness which was working well with the Pens speed game.
We have no true identity yet. The promising thing is that the WBS guys are showing grit, heart. But they hit a wall eventually.

It’s an 82 game season. So there’s still time to correct stuff. Hopefully something gives.

That's just it. Every team is fast now and the Pens really aren't. I read about the team speed, and they do have a few fast skaters, but as a whole, the Pens just aren't that fast. On top of that, they have no grit or toughness. Good regular season team, but heavy, skilled, fast teams like the Caps will handle the Pens in the playoffs with ease. I don't think that bringing an aging Wayne Simmonds is gonna help much. Besides, I doubt Sully would play him much anyway. Too much in love with guys like Simon.

Where the heck did the defense go? A month ago we were all amazed at how sound they were defensively.

Dumo is hurt
Marino is hurt
Riikolla is Sullivan’s dog house for some reason.
Shultz is a shell of his former self.

The chemistry is broken again thanks to Sullivan’s stubbornness

The Pens are still pretty fast. I thought they set up well in the offensive zone yesterday.
I thought they controlled play for the most part against the caps. They were just snake bitten with scoring.

Now the toughness aspect. That’s something that is lacking. We have no guys except Malkin who is willing to step up.
Once Ovechkin started to dish out hits, the Pens got timid.

The fans see it. I just don’t understand why Sullivan continued to overlook physical play

from NHL News/Rumors:
The Pittsburgh Penguins are interested in San Jose Sharks forward Patrick Marleau. #LetsGoPens #SJSharks

what the Hell would he cost? Isn't he 40 y.o.? Ugh!

I guess. They just aren't as fast as many of the teams they play against.

Buffalo looked faster, TOR did, as well and the Caps rookie blew past Petterson for the first goal. They seem like they are a step behind lately. Could be due to the current injuries/line-up.

I would never blame Sid or put much blame on his shoulders, but when he came back, that's when their speed shifted.
