I truly believe the critical error (although there were many throughout the Clinton campaign) was her collusion with the media. Ultimately it worked too well. I believe a large portion of the country believed the hype that Hillary had this election firmly in the bag and they simply couldn't be bothered to vote. True, she was a terribly unlikable candidate, and they needed extra incentive anyway to vote for her, but believing that she had this thing won easily very likely lead to what turned out to be the lowest voter turnout in 20 years.
On the other hand Trump drove every one of his supporters to the polls and it ultimately swung the thing, particularly in the critical states.
This was truly the fault of a biased media.
