A Pro-Tomlin/Colbert Article?

We have not won a playoff game in four seasons. This is well below Steeler standards. Once Cowher and his best players retired or got old, the team's success and leadership went with them.

I agree Colbert miscalculated the cap and made some bad decision in terms of who to keep and who to let go.

In defense of Colbert, Shazier looks like a star in the making. Dupree is off to a fast start. Tuitt played his best game. So he has been drafting pretty well in rounds 1-2 lately, but our secondary is just terrible.

The expectations for Super Bowl trophy's with this team will always be sky high. When we don't get close to that goal or even win a playoff game you can OBVIOUSLY expect these guys to be under a microscope. We know the window to win is usually pretty small. With Ben in his prime we need to maximize that potential with good drafts and the right contract signings to keep this team near that goal for the next 5 years or until Ben is gone. Once Ben is gone, man I don't want to go back to the Kordell/Maddox days.

If it took one down season to get a new franchise QB (well into the future), I could live with that.

That is a good read. NOW to improve, a QB is needed. One for eventual take over of BEN's retirement. As the article says, our cap space (dead money) will be very manageable as to new contracts / players needed. Let the good times roll.............................

I do think the Steelers need to be more proactive in finding Roethlisberger's eventual replacement. The problem is when you have a franchise QB, you're never in position to draft one high in the draft.

Why not call the Redskins about Robert Griffin? He will have to rework his contract, but he would be an upgrade over Landry Jones as a #3/developmental QB.

The kid's confidence is obviously shot in Washington and he needs a change of scenery. Bring him in to sit and learn behind Roethlisberger for a few years and see what happens.

from the article:

"Seriously, we think 12-4 seasons and AFCC appearances should fall out of the sky".

Yep. That pretty much sums up my expectations each and every season.

Maybe that is irrational and unfair. I don't have expectations like that for any other team, in any other sport.

But this is the Pittsburgh Steelers. There are no awards for participation, or plaudits for 10-6 being a "good season".

Get the job done, or get on with your life's work.

SB or bust.

Because he sucks that's why. Ben isn't that close to retirement that you start looking for his replacement.

Nearly anyone is better than laundry.......... I don't think rg3 is a viable option as to Ben's replacement. His "me entitlement" attitude, which he has displayed over and over, JUSt isn't a steelers type player. He would be more team distroy than team build. Look what has happened for the foreskins. PASS on the rg3 excitement. It is never to early, but Ben isn't going anywhere soon.

Greatest Quote Ever... Funny, but he covers the painful bandaid tear-off with a bit of soothing balm...

Yes our corners are garbage and our safeties are worse than our corners, but look at what has been done while you're looking at what hasn't been done yet, and you can see that the front office worked miracles under an extremely tight cap.

With all due respect to our battered corners and safeties. Great Game last week fellas. You're not garbage. Is there room for improvement? Sure. But last week was nice. It was good to see the other team run around like chickens with their heads cut off for a change. Let's see some more of THAT!

Great game by the DB's?. Giving up 71% to a bad passing QB with 0 interceptions is not good. I saw the same deep bomb over the middle that went for a long TS again. Our safeties seem hopeless. And this time our DB's had a good pass rush. The Steelers are one of 5 teams with no interceptions.

Coach and Hines, to participate in this thread, you need to read the article. We know how you feel. It's well documented...

Cope I read it. Maybe my standards are a bit higher than most. At what point do you say the Colbert and Tomlin combination is not working?

5 seasons with no playoff wins? ( could happen this year )? 6 seasons with no playoff wins? Just curious?

Well, to make the playoffs 2 times during a rebuilding phase all while still being competitive, I'm pretty stoked about. The team we have now is built to go deep in the playoffs, and that's what I'm excited about.

Also your numbers are off. We don't have a playoff win in 4 complete seasons. The 5th was our Superbowl season we lost to GB. We won 2 games that post season.

Don't go throwing facts out there like that, a superbowl loss is just as bad as not making the playoffs to some on the board, especially when it comes to Tomlin and Colbert.

Just a fluff piece to give Colbert some man love. The "We don't rebuild we reload" isn't just PR. Everyone knows this because they act the same in FA regardless of how good they think they are at the time. They always bring in a few FAs every year so they don't have to reach in the draft. Since they have a franchise QB in Ben who in the hell thinks about rebuilding? They weren't rebuilding the past few years. They plugged holes and drafted. There wasn't ONE season where they played all the young guys and looked to the future. Does a rebuilding team pay Worilds almost 10 Million on a franchise tag? Does a rebuilding team match the pat**** offer for Sanders for one year? Does a rebuilding team keep around players like Ike, Harrison, and Troy? They weren't rebuilding anything. They say that now in hindsight but at the time they weren't rebuilding anything. They were trying to win.

As long as Ben Rothlisberger is the QB of the Pittsburgh Steelers and is healthy then Tomlin is safe. Once Ben goes then we'll see exactly what happens. He has not even come close to bringing in a young QB to mentor under Ben. I also don't think Colbert all of a sudden got stupid when Cowher left either. I think that Cowher and Colbert worked extremely well together. I do not think the same can be said for Colbert and Cool Shades. I think Cool Shades has far too much input on the draft and F/A's and that's where we are.
Don't get too carried away with Sunday win over a depleted Niner's team. Don't forget that the infamous Kaperstink put up some big passing numbers against that defense.

Well first off, everyone knows I'm no Tomlin fan. I feel like he's waffling between two defensive philosophies and that he's incapable of choosing to be a hard-*** or a big brother.

And that's not his weakest area in terms of coaching. I start to get angry when I think about clock management or game preparation or challenges.

All that aside - I think the clown-**** that has been the drafting strategy for the last 5 or 6 years is a collaborative failure. I think it's based on several factors including injuries and guys who just don't live up to the hype (cough cough, Pouncey!) Ya, I said it. Well, typed it anyway. And he's been WAY better than some of the other guys we've brought in. Ziggy Hood. (Really?) Jarvis Jones is beginning to piss me off. I mean, I'm a patient guy, but come on man.

But despite having a fairly mediocre team in terms of talent across the board, (defensively) the Steelers have remained competitive. And that in a conference that features A few rough competitors. It isn't easy to win the North with the frickin Ravens stealing our black and blue blueprint and doing it right until they thankfully got stupid and overspent. Then you've got some other fairly decent teams in the league competing for those coveted wildcard spots. It's frickin' hard to get in to the playoffs, man.

So, I'll give the staff some credit for keeping the team competitive. I'd like to see them do more. I think they certainly could have. I think Tomlin absolutely should have. But hey, we could be alot worse too. I guess.

I don't want that punk kid anywhere near this teams sideline

You say that like it's a bad thing. (the bolded part). Trying to win ... while "reloading" or "rebuilding" ... shame on them.

RGIII??? Seriously??? No thanks.

Do you understand the concept of "nothing last forever"? The Steel Curtain of the 70's would have gotten shredded by today's offense because the game has changed. The rules have changed.

While your focus is on "5 seasons with no PO wins" - ponder the thought - NOT ONE of those seasons was a losing season. NOT ONE.

If we use your 5 seasons, as a base, guess what, that OL was an infant - now they are one of the best OL's in the league - see Ben's production. That same logic would bring back the days of Mr. Arians---throw it deep every other down and pray that Ben didn't get splayed over the turf...

Who are you inviting over for a sleepover tonight???

hahahaha some of yinz always give me a good laugh....

RG3 you IMO have seen his best, and it isn't good enough.

No way is he anyone's future QB.

I will go on record saying this..........

Vader is correct.

They mortgaged the future to win now and have not won a playoff game in 4 years. Next year we have a ton of players as free agents and little cap space. The time to win now.

Funny you mentioned Arians. We have not won a playoff game without him. Our OL is a little better now. Ben has matured a bit too.

Nothing last forever. Sure, As long as the Steelers had Bradshaw they were excellent. We have Ben now in his prime. Where are the playoff wins?

One day you might come to the correct conclusion that we have too much talent not to win a playoff game, and failed to draft/develop the weaker areas on the team. When was the last time the Steelers spent a first round pick on a CB? Just a guess you were sleeping at your parents house when that last happened.
