Well first off, everyone knows I'm no Tomlin fan. I feel like he's waffling between two defensive philosophies and that he's incapable of choosing to be a hard-*** or a big brother.
And that's not his weakest area in terms of coaching. I start to get angry when I think about clock management or game preparation or challenges.
All that aside - I think the clown-**** that has been the drafting strategy for the last 5 or 6 years is a collaborative failure. I think it's based on several factors including injuries and guys who just don't live up to the hype (cough cough, Pouncey!) Ya, I said it. Well, typed it anyway. And he's been WAY better than some of the other guys we've brought in. Ziggy Hood. (Really?) Jarvis Jones is beginning to piss me off. I mean, I'm a patient guy, but come on man.
But despite having a fairly mediocre team in terms of talent across the board, (defensively) the Steelers have remained competitive. And that in a conference that features A few rough competitors. It isn't easy to win the North with the frickin Ravens stealing our black and blue blueprint and doing it right until they thankfully got stupid and overspent. Then you've got some other fairly decent teams in the league competing for those coveted wildcard spots. It's frickin' hard to get in to the playoffs, man.
So, I'll give the staff some credit for keeping the team competitive. I'd like to see them do more. I think they certainly could have. I think Tomlin absolutely should have. But hey, we could be alot worse too. I guess.
