If it's so terrible, why hasn't Obama scrapped the program and applied the money we'd be saving to his own pet projects? Wouldn't be the first time (not by a long shot) that heavily-invested military programs were cut and written down as a complete loss.

The Strike Fighter Caucus in congress they love those kickbacks. It's Dems And Rep. No one is clean and Obama can do nothing.

The 'jack of all trades' problem also applies to the procurement side of things. Every service is accepting something they don't like about the airplane, because it has to be similar enough to the other planes to make it viable.

**** the money - it can't fly for **** as an air superiority fighter, it's big, slow and can't turn - the Navy wants out, Marines too, I think

It can't fly at night, can't fly in bad weather or near lightning because the fuel tank could explode and it can carry only two bombs internally

so we're gonna hold up the war because there might be a thunderstorm in the area?

But if this was Bush in office doing nothing, you'd be screaming for him to be impeached and then executed. Obama gets a pass because of the dirty Congress.

Always some ******* excuse....

Exactly. Some of you guys thought I was going after conservatives with this but it's not that, it's that this deal is a cluster****

I know we have to develop newer weapons and stay ahead but like I said this is a 1970's vintage pipe dream that was ignored all those decades for a reason, it doesn't work as a concept. You have to have a mix of different aircraft.

Bush's upper circle of cronies introduced us to 'no bid contracts'. That didn't come from congress it was Cheny&Co. that wanted to suck on that tit and they got it done through the white house by using fear.

The F-35 has a voting block of legislators that would screw with any president's plans, D or R for said president's unrelated legislation approval chances if he/she were to try to cancel this thing. The only way to stop it is for the constituents of those legislators to be made aware and to pressure them.

In this case it actually is true bipartsinship as both sides are making sure this piece of socialized hardware keeps many people employed and Lockheed fat and happy.

If conservatives wanted smaller government, they wouldn't be involved in this boondoggle. How much would you bet that if they had the only say so they would throw even more money at it?

Here's where you are going wrong. You are assuming conservatives are loyal to the republican party the way liberals are to the democrat party. They aren't. That is why the Republican party hates the Tea Party as much as the Dems do, probably more.

The reason Romney lost is because conservatives stayed home (or their votes went in shredder).

You post this and expect conservatives to dutifully stick up for Republicans who helped waste our money. Bush was heavily criticized for his spending and the first TARP.

Uh, no, that started under Slick Willie actually.

It depends. Much of Congress views the Dept. of Defense as a jobs program and bring home the pork to their constituents. This is why locally the late Rep. John Murtha, D-Pork Barrel, got reelected for decades and why the little burgh of Johnstown, PA has a small but first-class airport with only two flights a day to Washington, D.C. For the same reason virtually every public infrastructure project in WV is named the Sen. Robert E. Byrd (fill in the blank).

The French never buy American weapons.
