I'm telling ya this kid is going to be a key component in this Steelers secondary going forward. He seems like he has the skill set and all the physical tools to be a starter in this league. When Ike went out yesterday they put Blake in to cover AJ Green and the play he made knocking the ball away from AJ Green to me was the final nail in the coffin so to speak in the Bungles game with 8:30 to go in the 4th QTR just after the Steelers went up by 2 TD's on the Bryant 94yd TD catch. They probably thought they'd toast this kid just like they roasted Ike the whole game. He didn't bite on the double move and ran step for step with AJ Green who was having a career game vs Taylor.

He played very well, showed some good tackling and ball skills. Hopefully he keeps it up, we'll need it.

I couldn't agree more Chico. I also wonder if we would see the same results if Thomas suddenly appeared in Troy's spot or a **** slinging monkey went in for Adams.

Blake actually looks back for the ball once he sees the receiver starting to turn...a trait the rest of our secondary seems unable to grasp.

And Blake can support the run, something Ike can no longer do.

So is it the Zero sacks Adams allowed or blocking for his 200+ yard running back that shows how bad he is? Honestly, I understand why people hated Adams at the beginning of the year, but he is much improved now. See Colts game and Cincy game...

I think Blake should start moving forward. Ike is one of my all time favorites, but he doesn't have it anymore. I still think he's serviceable as a slot corner, but I don't want him on the edge.

Taylor needs to retire after this season.

Problem is, even at his peak- Ike was never that GREAT at sticking to his man.

Ike's greatest trait is being physical with the receivers and making solid tackles. This is a difficult task when you are limited to one arm. On that 80 yd bomb, you could see that Ike tried (and failed) at attempting to jam AJ at the LOS.

Yep that play right there I said "Nice knowing ya Ike, thanks for all the memories swag but its time to move on..."

That was a guaranteed touchdown if Blake wasn't in on that play.

I agree 100%. Adams has played pretty good in place of Gilbert. He has been beat a few times but not beat so bad he looks stupid as the dozen of pictures of Gilbert flailing around like a inflatable tube man you see while Ben is getting sacked. If Adams gets beat he at least gives Ben a chance to escape but getting a hand on the guy for a little directional block and gives Ben a place to step up to. I guess what I am saying he gives Ben a chance to be Ben while Gilbert literally just lets the DE t-off on Ben. And the running game has been rock solid since Adams came in. Yesterday their bread and butter was the counter with Miller and DeCastro leading the charge but usually the right edge has been lights out for Bell since Adams took over. He seals the edge or knocks the DE back to create a nice gap for Bell to run up. At this point I would cut Cortez Allen and and Gilbert and just take the cap hit and be done with it. Allen is a very good NICKEL back but not ever going to be a shut down CB. I would role with McCain, Blake, and Gay as my top three and then draft a guy in the first three rounds to develope.

What Blake lacks is size, which I don't mind cause he has good tracking skills and jumping . Also has the speed to run with almost anyone

What the heck happened to Shamarko? He had so much promise last year. I know he had an injury but he has done squat this year and seems to always be the odd man out. I hope he still improves this offseason otherwise he will be considered a bust.

Bell rushed on the right side 8 times for 10 yards. Adams was horrible against the Saints and got a lot of help against the bungles. They ran away from him 18 times where Bell got all but 10 of his yards. Also against the Saint they didn't run ONCE outside on the right side. They ran 2 off RT for 7 yards. So the idea that the running game has been lights out since Adams came in is based on what exactly? They ran the ball for 104 yards against the Saints... is that lights out? Adams was so bad against the Saints that one site had a break down of how bad he played.

I am wondering the same thing. How bad must he be not to be able to get on the field for this defense? I only see him on special teams.

Adams sucked balls against the Saints. 6 QB hurries. That's more than Beachum has given up all season.

Blake has worked hard to get where he is and it is starting to show. Plays with speed and self confidence something our secondary is really lacking. Big time overachiever with all the makings of a classic blue collar steeler. Going down the stretch gay and Blake at the corners Troy and Mitchell at safety could jell and be enough to get over the hump. Atlanta will test them no doubt.

He sucked against Cincy too. He was beat on almost every play and I saw him pancaked at least twice. The only reason his guy didn't get a sack is because of Spaeth or Ben bailing out, not Adams and they didn't gain them 200 yards going right side either. In fact I can't remember any decent runs to his side.

The Steelers were particularly effective running left behind pulling right guard David DeCastro. Tight ends Heath Miller and Matt Spaeth also merit mention here with the contributions each made as blockers.

Much improved my ***...he sucks big time I tell ya....

Blake could play as well as Taylor and deserves a chance, Taylor is excepting a pay check for nothing.

And a pressure which allowed a tipped pass and a pick.

Regarding Blake, he is a nice player. Not sure that he is a starter, but he has the talent to contribute down the stretch of this season.

not sure, but when Ike got torched by Green, wasn't Mitchell supposed to be over the top? Ike looked around lijke WTF?

I agree that Ike is done/will be done after this year. Unless he comes in in a dime package...

Looked like he (mitchell) went to double the man coming up the left seam. Mitchell does seem to be out of position a lot. Bites easy on play action and pump fakes and sometimes stays back and gets lost in indecision.

agree, Scott. Mitchell needs to learn quickly....he is lost often
