Are The Steelers the Top NFL Offense in 2015?

The #7 scoring offense also had 5 defensive or special team touchdowns worth 2.2 points a game inflating its stats. We still have red zone issues and will as long as Ben is here. He doesn't make quick decisions and contested throws as often as the elite scoring QBs

bring on Bruce Gradkowski!

yeah - that's the ticket!

Not sure many appreciate Heyward. 53 tackles and 7.5 sacks is better than most of Aaron Smith's years.
Steeler defense is not designed for the DE's to accumulate sacks. Aaron Smith had 8 twice and never more than 6
in any other year. He had 44 sacks over 13 year career, that is 3.4 per year average.

Bell might actually extend Heath's career. Their abilities complement one another. And Heath was no slouch this year, finished 7th in
TE receptions. All the newbies, left a lot of the potential playbook off the field in 2014. The experience will put it more in play in 2015.
Look for more 5 wides, with Bell one of the 5. Would you rather see a pass catching TE with the ball in his hands or Bell with the ball in his hands?

both

a fresh 6'6' 250 TE running a 4.4 on young legs please - more weapons for our 2 time SB winning franchise QB

we still need to score 30 points a game to win

Ahhh, I thought that was what you were implying. An interesting opinion.

I wouldn't even mind a NT in the 1st rd

we could get a NT if we really wanted one

if you like the Noles

Eddie Goldman, NT, Florida State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 313.
Projected 40 Time: 5.34.
Projected Round (2015): 1-2.
12/13/14: A source close to the Florida State program told me that the Seminoles feel that Goldman has been their best defensive lineman. Goldman has racked up 35 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, four sacks, one pass batted and a forced fumble in 2014.

Goldman is big, strong, quick and disruptive. He has enough speed to get pressure as a pass-rusher while being very stout at the point of attack.

I don't consider "Total Yards" to indicated the #1 offense. And we were 2nd in that category anyhow behind New Orleans (not in playoffs).

Not sure I would consider us #1 in anything. It was certainly an improvement. The best offensive output by the offense ever and one of the best when compared to the league as a whole (along with 1979).

I don't really know what to expect. I think we should easily be top-10 in scoring production and a good season (overachieving) should be top-5. That would be good.

But the schedule I think will be tougher, so we might have a drop off. And I think we are precariously thin at a lot of offensive positions (#1 TE to #2 TE, #1 WR to #2 WR, #1 RB to #2 RB, Guard/Center/Guard to backup interior guy).

It's a nice foundation to continue to bolster and build up. The key now is to not make the offense better, but to make it more resilient. Improve depth. Keep the feeding talent coming. Coach up and teach the younger kids showing promise. Draft guys thinking "can I make them a good starter in 2 years" rather than throwing away picks on bells and whistles or fat, slow lineman.

Being #1 is not the goal. Being more consistent is the goal. I can live with being 5th or 6th in points per possession. I can live with top-3 in TOP again. I can't live with up-down-up-down like we showed this year. I can't live with continued struggles in the red zone.

Every offensive roster decision should be about consistency, depth, development and red zone improvement. NOT about trying to be the #1 offense in the league.

Still baffles me that people want to draft OL early. No way. If at all, a late round pick. The OL has become above average and is getting better with Munchak.

Sure, we need pass rush but our biggest need is and was this year in the secondary. We must go CB and S in the 1st two rounds. Then we can look for DL/OLB and a TE. If we draft OL at all, it is a late round pick.

McLendon, Heyward, Tuitt and McCullers, can man the D-line with a pass rushing LB or 2 on the outside or even coming from the inside (something we didn't do much with this year). I probably cut Cam Thomas as he sucked all year and was another waste of a free agent pick up. Our secondary is hurting. We have some young guys. If Ike and Troy go, 2 of our probable starters might be Mitchell and Cortez Allen. That scares the crap out of me - especially with Allen. We need more young guys in the secondary and we need to sign our young free agents.

There are not a lot of quality TE's in this draft and I'd rather spend top picks on defense. From the mocks I see, a lot of CB's are coming up value
around #22. Some even have the first CB off the board at #22. Maybe the new Pitt coach will put in a good word in for the kid from Michigan State.

I don't see it if Manning, Brady and Rodgers are still quarterbacking.
