? Art and Dan Rooney have called a press conference for 2pm today as per Twitter

I know it sounds crazy.. but makes you wonder if they will eventually approve the use of Letters.. or symbols or something.. ,, I know stupid..

Great news and well deserved. He along with Noll changed the attitude of the Steelers.
I could see Mel Blount or Lambert being next.

SN should honor Mean Joe Bradshaw.

Mean Joe is on the Mount Rushmore to me for Pittsburgh sports.

Him, Mario Lemieux and Roberto Clemente.

There just aren't better players on/off the field then them. I normally wait to place admiration on professional athletes. I honestly don't trust much of the off-field profiles I see on ESPN and others. I wait a LONG time to make sure players are real.

But there is no doubt Green, Lemieux and Clemente were the real deals. And all arguably in the top-20 ever to play in their sports.

We've been pretty blessed to been able to watch all three and say they are only ours.

Congratulations Joe Green!

Hines Ward will probably be the next on the list...

Great news, though!!!

Some teams give out these retired numbers like they figure eventually they can start handing out numbers in the three digits. It actually MEANS something when a team like Pittsburgh or Buffalo gives you that honor.

It is true that if they retired the number of every Steeler who was very good to great, they might not have enough numbers left to field a team.

I do think that there is a list of number that are not retired but are typically not handed out --

Congrats to Mean Joe. His "I'm not going to take this anymore" attitide helped change a franchise.

It's unofficial but I believe in addition to 75, that 12, 32, 52, 58, and 59 have not been given out for use in the regular season in a LOOOONG time. There could be a few I'm missing.

Awesome, that's all that needs to be said.

You have to include Honus Wagner.
