Arthur Smith may take the UNC job

As long as Tomlin is at the helm, he will always be the OC, and the play caller will be the problem.

If I’m Smith I’m taking that NC job for sure. It must be hell to be an OC under Tomlin.
I would think you wouldn’t want to wait too long, unless you have no other options.

Why your HC needs to be the OC in the modern game. Even with a modicum of improvement he might be gone.

I think the NC thing is fake news.

Tomlin can easily find a yes man from college ranks that accomplished nothing, so he can mold him like he did with Matt Canada.

Maybe Matt just had too much “MOLD” on him………………………….

The reality of the situation is like most things, it’s the constant that needs changed. Coach Tomlin has had his good seasons and his bad ones, but of the last 10+ and over 1/2 his time here, bonehead things have been occurring. Coach Tomlin is set in his ways (which happen to be non-losing seasons), and upper management seems to be fine with that.
Hella, many here are fine with that but I have always felt if you aren’t doing anything to improve or just standing still, then you are going backwards.

Look at how far this Franchise has lacked in several areas. OL coaching has been bottom barrel for way too long (excluding Muncheck window), and yet we still employ bottom barrel coaching. That defense has been so outdated for a long long time and yet, bottom barrel coaching.

Many say “oh my, he’d be hired in a heartbeat”, or “getting a new coach could be way worse”. Keeping the same O’l same O’l is like accepting “Groundhog day” over and over. Some / most are tired of the “Pete & re-Pete”, but I think not much will change other than faces & surly not scheme until the core is changed.

My thoughts exactly

He would be hired in a heart beat.

He would be hired in a heart beat.
Or he could coach another 18 years here and set 2 never to be broken NFL records: 36 straight nonlosing seasons and 36 straight seasons never securing HFA in the playoffs.

PS

Arthur Smith will be here, he isn’t going anywhere.

Seeing the same thing offensively being done week in and out...for the last few seasons.....I would not lose any sleep over him leaving.

I saw Smtih had a year that they scored touchdowns on 74% of their red zone trips in Tennessee to lead the league.

Smith can do it, but will Tomlin allow him to do it?? This year our number of TDs in red zone trips is 44%…I was surprised it’s even that high

Smith must see the writing on the wall here by now: forever constrained by Tomlin to lead a mediocre offense at best. I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see him bounce to North Carolina.

I would seriously consider it. You will never convince me that the last number of OC’s have had free reign to implement what they wanted, and they ALL decided to run the exact same system, with virtually the same results.

The 22 he had then ....is mo better than the 22 he has currently...

I agree Henry is better than Najee, not sure where else tho

I think Russ and Pickens match up pretty well with anyone Tennessee had

It just makes no sense. Tomlin let Arians do what he wanted. Tomlin let Haley do what he wanted. Fitchner too. But all the sudden he has decided to mirco manage the offense? Do you think, just maybe, the offense we see has more to do with the talent they have had then Tomlin sticking his nose in? Would have you opened it up with Kenny Pickett or Mitch Trubisky? He did a bit with Rudolph last year. Now, if you want to criticize him for picking Pickett, or playing him or Trubisky over Rudolph, ok, fair game. But I think he just did what gave them any chance to win. As for this year, it's a new offense for everyone involved, and it's limited by young players on the OL, lack of a #2, and a running back who just isn't explosive. Again, he deserves criticism perhaps for starting Harris over Warren, or not getting Williams more involved, but I just don't see it as him meddling in the offense.
