Beanie Baby released by Steelers

Beanie Bishop released from ps to make room for MVS whom the team signed today.
Kid had a nice rookie season but lost playing time to Cam Sutton last season and never got another chance.

I have to disagree with the notion he never got another chance. He had 8 weeks full of chances on the practice squad to show he deserved being back on the roster. He had training camp and preseason to prove he deserved to be back on the roster.

We can hug that beanie baby and know it looked better on the shelf wrapped in plastic.

Sorry my Steeler brother that practice squad shelters more players than ever. Yet they decided to choose him out of all the candidates. There is a logical reason behind it …

he did his best but his best wasn’t good enough.

Last season was his rookie season. I think Bishop was another one of those underdogs who became a Steeler Nation favourite based on his getting a few interceptions in successive weeks. The games I saw on TV , outside of the interceptions, I didn't think he was that impressive.

I liked Beanie, he had a few splash plays, but nothing over the top. I think he was one that had communication issues.

Salute the nation

In the Land Of The Blind the one-eyed man is king.
Last year he was a pretty good DB, relatively speaking.
This year we imported some better players.

And no pedigree, and things of that nature
Kid was a route jumper... Tomlin values being in position and not making a play till the guy is 20 yards downfield rather than a guy who intercepts 4 balls but gives up 4 bad passes...

His passer rating against was sub sixty...

I think all these DBs get scapegoated because the DB scheme is convoluted and doesnt work IRL..

We simplified last game and did slightly better

Agree that he had chances, but the majority of the reasoning behind this premise requires those making the roster decisions to be competent in their assessments and chances given. Awww, who am I kidding, Tomlin and Austin are geniuses as architects of a historic defense…I’m sure their decision making was sound.

I look more at the fact that he was on the practice squad for 8 weeks and not snatched up by another team as a larger component of his being below the line, his lack of pedigree and things of that nature, obviously. Simply put, he must have blinked as obviously we needed another retread WR on the ps.

superbOwl here we come

We simplified last game and did slightly better

352 passing yards allowed
2 100 yard receivers
Wide open spots everywhere in that shyte zone
15 yard cushions in man

All that even being +5 in TO margin is abysmal

Yep they were definitely looking slightly better 🤣

They got several fortunate bounces and made the most of them converting them into takeaways which almost makes a guy like Beanie seem like the perfect fit for the Tomlin sieve, ope I mean Tomlin “scheme”

The sieve Is so reliant on turnovers and not really covering anyone that he seems like he could be captain of that D…the perfect round peg if you will.

Relax all you Beanie fans..
Good old beanie will be back on the practice squad in short time, and I am predicting he will see some playing time before year is done
I agree

I mean I am not disagreeing in general... when your DB coverage scheme fails but you have a good pass rush, having route jumpers absolutely slows down the offensive reads..

Even when the D wasnt getting to the QB the past few weeks, they still had fast pressure times... yhe QB was just throwing to obviously open guys so quick the pass rush didnt matter.

The "communication issues" that we blamed on every single DB going back to Covid is just a bad DB coverage scheme... that many players arent ******* up consistently... bishop has a lot of upside, but we dont really develop DBs... its more like we make them worse, so its probably best he leaves anyways

exactly.

Minkah started very well, excelling until he learned the scheme, then the O just gameplanned him out.

The Steelers have a wonderful theoretical scheme, that requires all to go right to work, unless you let folks, professional athletes with over a decade of training, use their instincts to just make plays.

it would be great if the Steelers D could have 2 modes: Base Scheme that we all saw on the first drive and 4th Q Sunday, and then a Simplified Talent Scheme, like they seemed to use in the second and third quarters when most of the TOs happened.

I think it was the confusion of what Jones saw vs expectations, and a couple great personal efforts, that led to 3 of the 5 TOs. (the muffed punt was an unforced error)

Move TJ around, every once in a while having DBs jump routes, occasionally double the #1 target, create havoc for the QB rather than set the table for quick passes like they did for Bert and Love.

Yep, when you put it in perspective he did have opportunities being on the ps.
Wonder if he’ll get picked up by another team?

Tomlin was just asked about Bishop in his presser. He wouldn't answer. "I'm not going to talk about the practice squad."
