He isn't going to eat oodles of noodles in his lifetime unless he wants to. in my opinion every single owner, coach and player is overpaid. They play a game. yes it is a physical game with alot of injury. But it is a game.
take some of this money and pay our teachers better.

in answer to the question Ben got paid well for many many years. he made what he should have made

I hear what you are saying BLITZ. The thing is the NFL is a MONEY MACHINE and if the players / coaches / etc. didn't get the money then the owners would and the owners wouldn't donate it to the teachers. The players pay a tax and somewhere along the line some gets to the school district.

For the product put out the NFL makes way to much for the entertainment value, thus it's why I and others refer to it as the "GREED MACHINE"

At some point we all just need to stop paying into the league
I buy Sunday ticket. That is the only$$ I give any longer. Won't buy another jersey or terrible towel. Won't go to a game.

It absolutely can be quantified...
I don't believe it can because... Ben was paid exactly as much as he earned.. is your opinion.

Never mind that, not important because I now understand what you were trying to say. You meant that Ben was neither over nor underpaid but got paid fairly, appropriately...whatever.

Yours was an odd way of putting it. Could easily be interpreted differently. Maybe if you tried to sound a little less ambiguous you wouldn't get into so much trouble.

I would say for most of his career he was paid well... IMO paid to much maybe the last 4-5 years...

YOU do realize that some of that last 4-5 years money was money pushed forward from past restructures of his contract. Esentualy he was being paid in part from money he had earned in the past.

That 5 million dollar pay cut that he took for last season was money he had already worked for so that would be akin to you giving up your "paid" vacation eventhough you've put in the work to qaulify for it and working it for free.

Wishing WHO was paid more?? Exactly...
Commenting on oneself, when the question was regarding someone else, kinda translates to being self-absorbed, no matter what the subject matter is...
No, not exactly. Don't sit there and tell me you never wished you would have liked to have been paid more. If you felt you were being "self absorbed" by wishing for such a thing then speak for yourself.

I think most of us at one time or another wished we were paid more for a myriad of reasons. Being full of yourself would be at the bottom list... if on the list at all.

Your accusation toward Zona was inappropriate. An apology is in order.

It'll never happen but it would be interesting to see an audit. No way in heck the teams are pulling in that much revenue from ticket revenue, concessions and merchandise and still stay afloat. The league has to be subsidized by Vegas which is then filtered to the teams. Then tack on the fact their business has interesting Federal tax loopholes/privileges? (A connection there between Vegas and DC? Hmmm...) Stop supporting Vegas and legal gambling then you've likely chopped off the head of this monster.

Yes and IMO he was still making to much those years. No expert on contracts etc my opinion on what I saw.

Add insecure to that.
Even if Zona comment wasn't in jest, wishing one was paid more doesn't normally translate to being self-absorbed.
It was an off-season attempt at humor, sometimes it works, and sometimes it falls flat.
I will admit that I've never understood the psyche of a troll, so I choose to ignore rather than engage.

Not an issue Stewey, but thanks anyway, I got thicker skin than that, and he's only fooling himself to think that anyone cares what he types.
What this troll may not understand is that he's allowed to stick around here solely for the purpose of kicking his *** by those that enjoy the banter.
When that becomes tiresome, the hammer will emerge.

His accusation of others being self-absorbed is a classic case of psychological projection...projecting onto others what they are.

So full of himself he believes people no longer respond to him because he has put them in their place....when the fact is they have him on ignore. lol

Soon he will be talking to himself.

That is what I did with a group of posters on here who went down that road. Makes the site more enjoyable.

If a front line QB player gets hurt and is out for the season I think Ben will come back. Did he turn in the retirement papers yet? Yeah, I could see him being a better game manager with a better OL and better skill players. His relationship with the Steelers has been rocky and he didn't play well ( can blame his OL and receivers and coaching ).

Will it happen? The opportunity has to be open first. Not sure if we still retain his rights.

Up until the last couple years I think he was fair market value for production, the last couple of years he was overpaid. He earned the respect to justify the over payment though.

The other question: Was Ben under coached while he was here???

For a guy to consistently out perform (Ben in the no huddle vs OC calling plays) makes you wonder what he could have done with elite coaching and legitimate game plans.
Maybe not fitting of his style early in his career, but for the latter part I think it could’ve helped.

Coach, I'm pretty sure there isn't any "rights" to retain. Last year was a one year contract and they did not extend or renegotiate a new one.

He is footlose and fancy free.

I don't see him playing again and especialy for another team. His body says it's enough and his mind has $$$coin$$$ to prove it. He is living happily in retirement world.

Fiji Mariner, you most certainly have a valid point about the coaching side of Ben.

Honestly, I was saving that topic for a later thread, kindA like Stryker saving the Loudermilk interview...............

Coach Cowher seemed to get more out of his players than our current coach. I said in another thread had Coach Cowher stayed another 5 years we would more than likely won at least three more SBs. Cowher seemed to keep Ben grounded and game planned to his strengths. Cowher also had top-flight coaching staff.

Coach Tomlin seems to get not nearly as much out of his players because he is to lose a cannon on the dicipline in action needed. Coach Tomlin has stated if a player needs coaching at their position, at this stage of their career, we can't help them. "players" coach is a lose term and in Coach Tomlin's case it appears part of that term is meant at lackadaisicalness/easy practices/etc. (troy talked about that while there).

So, yes SIR I do think Ben would have been much better had coaching been better.

Yay, pronouns.... Aren't you projecting your perception of what people are, right now?? Wasn't the OP projecting his accusations on others?? Classic....

Ben was paid what he signed a contract to be paid

No. 3 in all-time career earnings behind only Brady and Brees. Considering only Brady had more Super Bowls during that time and the Steelers are I believe No. 2 in winning percentage over Ben's career, I'd say he was paid fairly.
