Ben to IR, out for season

I understand there were reports that he was hurt going in to the game.

And honestly, he wasn't all that sharp against the cheats. One wonders if his arm wasn't a bit gimped up there too. If so, there are a LOT of people who made some poor choices. If Ben was hurt, he should have said, hey guys - I need some time for this elbow to heal up. If Tomlin KNEW he was hurt, he needed to have the trainers take a long hard look at that elbow and see what the status was. Roethlisberger IS the franchise. There it is folks. If they knew he was gimped up but rolled him out with the danger of aggravating an injury or blowing up the elbow altogether - well, that's about right for Coach T.

Fact is, he probably knows he can't win without Roethlisberger so he trotted him out there anyway. (Still a bit on Ben for not saying 'hey, this ****** hurts!')

We all joked about it but the reality is here

The Mason Rudolph Era has begun earlier than expected, the Killer Bs are all gone, no more talk of windows, the shock will take some time to absorb

In a word, malfeasance.

The same numbskull that ran the wheels off WP. Absolutely clueless. And every bit as clueless 10 years later. Stands there on the sideline for 13 years blinking his eyes with that idiot expression on his face. Clueless.

Don't worry. They'll "unleash hell in December" when they return to Foxboro to play "those @#$%ing @$$holes" on their way to the SB. "The standard is the standard". A truly impressive human being.

The minority owners must be apoplectic over this. How does Arty not hand them his scalp? If not, sue the senior numbskull for malfeasance. This storied franchise upon which minority owners invested has become a degenerating crime scene over the junior numbskull's tenure. They just obligated the franchise to $100M (guaranteed?) and just left the franchises pivotal asset out there to waste. Is malfeasance too strong a word?

Anyway, Benjamin Todd Roethlisberger Sr., you're a true warrior. I hope you fully recover and go enjoy your beautiful family. Whatever the pile of cash you have coming, you deserve. And I hope it's the full $100M. You carried this team on your back. I can't think of a better franchise quarterback for this storied franchise. Godspeed.

The sideline incident showed us that Tomlin is Bush League and also protected at the same time. He has always known he's safe and it has shown in the lack of accountability and endless "we accept responsibility for that performance" gibberish that followed embarrassing defeats against lesser talent.

Not a fan of Tomlin at all, but if this is indeed his UCL, there is NOTHING that Tomlin or anyone else could do to make it better outside of having surgery. You can play thru it but once the UCL is strained or tearing there in noting that will fix it besides TJ surgery.

Speaking of injuries, anyone know what's up with James Conner?

We will see some things of the Steelers of today, what kind of coach Tomlin really is, what kind of players we really have, what kind of QB Rudolph may show.

Man was outdoors when I heard the news. I think if he can play next year he will. All depends on the Dr's diagnosis IMO.

If it isn't career ending Big Ben will be back. If it is his last hurrah thank you Ben. Thank you for giving this team the franchise we desperately craved. I am thankful as I remember what we had in between you and Terry. A lot of not good enough. Then to our pleasure 3 SBs, and 2 wins to make this team the Lord of the Rings. The first to six and the only team to accomplish it without cheating. You had some rough spots, a string of haters. But not here. I loved that you willed us to wins, and consistently pushed this team to non-losing seasons. ******* incredible. Fans will realize how special you were if they don't already. How many games you played battered and injured. One tough SOB. How many games the team was down and you put the team on your shoulder to ensure victory. Love ya man. If you retire I will miss you, Steelernation will miss you.

In the event you are back let it be to show the SOBs what you can do on the tail end of your career.

best wishes,

Gashsteel

Well said, my sentiments exactly. If we did witness Ben's last game, I wish him nothing but the best in retirement and all that cash he just got. He deserves every penny of it.

If this is the end, it was a hell of a career with much of its potential wasted (for a variety of reasons, Ben himself included).

Best and most talented QB this franchise ever had. Two Super Bowls is still two Super Bowls, no matter how long ago at this point and how many we "could have" or "should have" won.

Time to tank it for a top-10 pick and see what we have in Mason Rudolf. I scouted Rudolf back when I did that sort of thing and I really liked his tape. I liked the draft pick and I'm glad he beat out chump change Josh Dobbs (thank God Tombert got that right and didn't trade Rudolf a week ago).

I do agree with previous posters that this buys Tomlin another season here. Not sure how long the leash will be if we officially enter the Tomlin/Rudolf era. The chinks were in the Art 2 - Tomlin relationship already (based on the contract extension he got). I think Art 2 will continue to give Tomlin 1-year extensions at this point, started after this season. And Art 2 will give Tombert a year with a high draft choice and their QB decisions to see what happens in 2020. They have 14 games for Tombert to evaluate Rudolf starting now.

Personally, Roethlisberger, if he decides NOT to retire, would actually be worse for this franchise in the long run. His window with Tombert is officially closed (it has been in my mind for 5 seasons). Hopefully this organization and Roethlisberger don't drag this out into Franco Harris territory.

Just my 2 cents.

Heard it's a knee issue, again. Actually I'm not positive what his other injury was but I remember them saying it was a lower leg injury.

Well that's good news to hear. If anybody can will his old *** back from this, it's Ben.

That's a compliment BTW.

Kaep taking a knee, Villanueva standing right next to him. I'd pay to see that. :popcorn2:

Didn't Denver already offer Kaepernick quite a bit of money to start and he turned it down?

He's not coming here to be a backup and they're not even in entertaining the idea. Let the ******** talking heads keep doing what they do best.

They damn well better not bring in Kaperdork. Dude sucks. And, that doesn't include his **** show garbage he would bring with him.

It’s crazy to me that people are so vindictive that they are more pissed that everyone might not hate Tomlin more than they care that Ben’s career may be over. That’s a strange world to live in IMO.

Knowing the competitor Ben is, I think he will give it a shot to rehab and come back strong next year just so he can go out on his own terms. I also think he will do everything in his power to help Rudolph this year.

‘Is somebody vindictive if they want Montcrief benched or cut?

There are many people who see Mike Tomlin and the coaching staff as the biggest obstacle to the steelers winning another super bowl. As such, they want him removed as they may want Montcrief benched for the same general reason, not getting his job done.

if you have believed Tomlin is holding this team back, then it is incredibly frustrating that this team’s raw talent alone has guaranteed non-losing seasons and it is that mediocrity that saves Tomlin time and again. They team has never actually been bad because they’ve had too much talent to be bad.

Now it seems he is finally on an actual hot seat after last year’s collapse and the AB debacle. It seems he will finally be judged this season and the Ben gets injured and now it seems he has a free pass for anything short of a total meltdown 4-12 type season. This team has too much talent to be that bad.

Maybe Ben can come back next year, but if Tomlin is still coach, it seems like a dead end trip.

Love you Ben. Thanks and Godspeed.
Go Mason!

Who the **** is our backup now?

Mason just said the first he knew of pain in Ben's elbow was after the NE game. Not caused by injury so was never put on injury report

I'd be done with the Steelers if they signed Kaepernick. I wouldn't be able to accept that. Just couldn't. The thing is, I can see Rooney entertaining the idea so he can pat himself on the back for the same reason Tomlin continues to be the coach. He's so woke.
