Benton wants paid?

His brother didn't age well. Watt is one of those guys that is a double edge sword........he plays so hard, so intense that when he's healthy he's all world but you can only play like that for so many years before your body shuts down. He either had an off year and will be tremendous or he's gonna be a shell of his former self soon. I just don't see Watt age like Cam. I do think that contract was a poor choice........I think I would have traded him.......listen I'm a poker player.......you constantly assess risk. You aren't right all the time but sometimes you have to fold aces and sometimes you have to go all in with 55..........you just have to make calculated risks as a GM and live with those decisions. I was OK with trading Watt for serious draft capital before the resign if the capital was juicy. He's over 30......the NFL is brutal man.
I mean Jjs injuries started at 27 and they were mostly freak catastrophic stuff... his las season he played he was 33, played in 16 games and had 12.5 sacks and 18 more tackles for loss... He opted to retire but there was still a heavy market for him had he wished to continue playing.

Tj has had one concussion, one Pec Tear, a knee sprain and a weird dry needling catastrophe that collapsed a lung.. he played 17 games in both 23 and 24 before that freak injury in 25... i see little reason to think TJ wont reach 35 and still be effective... though I wouldnt want to pay league leading money that far out, for sure

Benton has been OK, at best. He is not in the top 20 linemen and is probably outside the top 30. They may not even try to sign him now and play the wait-and-see if he improves this year. Then, he may move up into the top 30 or even 20, but I doubt he ever gets anywhere near a top 10 player. Offer him accordingly, and then let him walk if he thinks he's a top player in the league.
It isn't about what he thinks he is....it is what the rest of the league puts his value at. Same goes with Porter.

We will get are rookie franchise qb at some point.......no?🤔

They would have to earnestly start pursuing that route, which to this point Art seems perfectly content with has been QBs duct taping mediocre seasons together and back them up with cheap mid-late round prospects.

So far in the last decade they took one legit swing, too bad it was for an obvious mid at best KFP.

That type of draft strategy is a long, long, long shot to land a franchise QB.

I’d like to hope they get one soon, it’s been due for a decade now that they start to find Ben’s successor.

I could easily see them go with another retread, Howard and Allar next year. It fits the broken system they’ve been using,

Well we might strke gold with Allar or Howard yet.🤞 Problem is with A A ron playing we might never know what we have.

Hopefully Howard earns the #2 spot and of course Allar will be #3. And then Rudy will be let go. If Howard doesn't get the 2 spot he probably is let go.

Seems Art is lost with how to rebuild. Of course he doesn't see us rebuilding just retooling. NE rebuilt in a handful of seasons. Here we are 5 plus seasons later with no answer.

Simple answer there. Trade while his value is high.
The smarter move might have been move on from our older players and give the younger up and coming players new deals.

The thread is Benton wants paid?

I wouldnalso like to get paid. Doesn't mean I am going to get paid what I want. If my bosses deem me important enough, I get paid what I want. Same with Benton

Everyone on the D wants to be paid at least 25 million…of course Benton wants 25 million (or more)

Remember…these guys were part of the historic squad assembled last year and should be rewarded as such

Pay em all!!!

Heck extend Harmon too, who cares if he just got his contract last year?!?! That’s when DLine are ripe for new contracts after all.

Not 25 million for a guy who gets creased routinely vs the run. I gotta be honest to me he isn't a 10 million guy. Interior guys who get good pressure and some sacks. Say 6 in a year, but aren't good vs the run are rotational players at best.

I didn't think Herbig would get what he got. Talk of Porter getting close $30 mill. I would never have thought that Benton would $20 - $25 mill either.

Freak catastrophic stuff......I dont know .uch about his injuries and I'm not a physician but seems to me genes are genes.....I bet some guys would have been in the same situations JJ was and not been injured as bad, and some would have had career ending injuries........just different people.have different reactions to **** that happens on the field. You could be right......TJ may be totally OK but between his stuff and his brothers later in their careers, you at least have to raise an eyebrow

I say we draft rounds 4 through 7 all QBs every year, hope we get a Brady, and worst case scenario we can have exciting games against the Browns

Unless Howard stinks up the joint you let Rudy go. What's Rudy gonna do anyway if AR gets injured? Hes gonna do squat.......go with the upside and get rid of the more expensive contract and who is now a journeyman in the NFL. I will say this, i don't know why anyone thinks Howard being a franchise QB is anything but a one in a million situation. At least Allar has shown elite tools and elite throws. He just needs to do it 80% of the time in the NFL(only)

Not following the beginning of your post in reference of what you quoted of me. Sorry.

This, we’re talking about a team that hasn’t done jack in the playoffs, and a average defense at best

I get to rise from mediocrity you half to identity who the key guys are that can lift us out of this and pay/keep them, but some of them just don’t deserve a big investment yet. Benton should be a wait and see.

I might get flamed for this but all I see is in Benton is he’s part of a line with a first round draft pick (Harmon) and a guy playing at an all pro level (Hayward) that can’t stop the run. Yes I think Tomlins defensive scheme was flawed and did them no favors but if Benton wants top money get your butt out there and show it this year, last year wasn’t pretty…

Someone suggested he’d do better on the outside instead of the nose, to me that means he plays over Harmon or Cam-I don’t think he’s earned that

Absolutely. The only way Rudy should stay is if we keep 4 QBs (unlikely) or Howard looks awful in camp and preseason

All the tea leaves point towards Rudy staying tho, DK (the journalist) is on record saying the team wants a QB behind Aaron who can step in and win a game now, which I think is code for they want Rudy or a vet at #2. This is the problem-the brass think they are contending for a Super Bowl now and that’s delusional

I actually think they could be quite good this year.
O Line is young and improving. The LT situation is better than Jones. Max will have the first half of the season against weaker teams to get some reps on the right side. Guys like McCormick and Zack another year under their belt.
Gainwell is gone but Dowdle is pretty good....nice 1,2 punch
WR much better than last year
A coach who can actually call modern plays and has been pretty darn good at it

That's a lot of improvement

On the D .....

Better coaching, better schematics. Instead of "this is the scheme now fit to it" they will scheme according to personell (or so they say)

Jamel.Dean.....1 shut down corner is awesome. When you have 2 there is so much more you can do schematically with the safties

I think they move around the edge rushers more......maybe not Leabeu moving around but more than what Tomlin did

They have safety depth, secondary depth. I mean Ramsey is still a quality corner and he's our 3rd best now.....thats saying something

I think how they use Benton, and the age of Cam, how Harmon develops, and the new piece in Day and the rotational players like Black are the key to being really good. Will this be a disaster or can Graham change schematics enough to make this part of the D half decent especially against the run? That to me is the worry ..They are an injury away from disaster and they aren't strong there to begin with from a talent standpoint

QB ....oh yeah most important player.....lol.....more time and better receivers and im.hoping we get the best old Rodgers there is....not vintage Rodgers but best old Rodgers

Then yeah maybe they contend

Howard, Rudy......blah blah blah
Meh....might as well throw in A A ron also. Underwhelming QB group we have. It is what Art gave us though. It is what it is.

So just to yank your chain a bit

6 in a year= rotational (Benton) since he’s is a run liability

But averaging 6.1/year for a career (Cam Heyward) is HOF
since he’s good vs the run??

Got it, let me go drop this in the other thread now since that issue is cleared up 🤣

He’ll likely be like Hargrave (who they frequently put in the wrong spot)

He’ll go elsewhere
Get paid elsewhere
Be used properly elsewhere

And we’ll all look back and say man Tomlin really did find a way to get the least possible out of him… after he plays his way out of the Steelers price range in a pro system this year.

Benton is definitely outside the top 30, probably top 60. He's the 3rd best defensive lineman on the Steelers right now.

Look what that got Herbig being the 3rd best.

That’s the sad thing stillwright.

The Tomlin choose this route of ancient QBs to save the day.

His one attempt was a failure.

The biggest failures was his ability to develope a QB.

We now have a QB Guru, with a reputation to prove it.

I agree on the continuous attempts but also know the two youngiNs need a chance to show what they’ve got.

I’m excited to see training camp starting soon and partly for the QB news reasons.

Salute the nation
