Benton’s Talents Wasted by Tomlin

Are you in fn idiot you dumbazz or are you just illiterate?? I said he played center in his senior year at college. Yes guard was his primary position at Illinois prior to his senior year, but he finished his career there at center. You can literally go look at film and it shows him playing at center. Wtf are you even talking about??
Listen you ************, stay off my posts.
You’re one of these right fighters and I don’t have time for it.
The guys true position was guard. He played guard at Illinois during his time with that powerhouse Illinois. Of course they could have used him at center but he was a guard.
Everyone knows it but you.
Stay the **** off my posts. I don’t deal in ignorance and idiots that think they know it all. **** off!

Right...coming from the moron who said Hargrave was no good here. They literally lacked the salary space, but here your dumbass is talking about they failed to develop him.

He excelled here. What did he do better anywhere else that he didnt do here?? Ill wait....
He played on the outside when he left here and was much more successful. Here he was primarily used over center.
Ok genius. On Kendrick Green here is his Illinois career.
Came to Illinois as a defensive lineman but switched to OL, specifically guard. Got hurt and was redshirted freshman year.
when he returned the following season his redshirt year he played 12 games at guard.
His sophomore season he played all 11 games at guard.
His last season he started three games at center and the rest of the season at guard.
99% of his experience at college was guard.
When he left the Steelers and played for the Texans he was a guard and said here they this is his natural position.
Go away now!

How do you suggest they stop the run more effectively for 3 and 4 WR sets??? Run the famous LeBeau 3-4???

I hope that's not the answer because then the complaints will be - this defense can't stop the passes for_____...
They don’t stop the pass consistently either

1) Javon playing at a different position is not an indictment against the Steelers staff not being able to develop him. It simply means he played at a different position because the Steelers were already secure at the OLB position. Would you rather they had taken out TJ Watt or Bud Dupree?? Make it make sense. There's nothing you've said that would indicate he wouldn't have had the same equal success here if he had played the same position nor did you state any definitive changes in development. If you go from the middle of the line to outside linebacker 9-10 you're likely to get more sacks if thats what youre referring to, but this fact is not helping your position.

2) your initial comment was that Kendrick Green never played center. I'm glad you know how to use Google now.

He had 11 sacks with the Eagles one year.

Hargrave was a good player with the Steelers, though he was slightly miscast being played on the nose as often as he was.

He handled it well, and Tomlin, Colbert and the Steelers definitely deserve credit for drafting and developing him, but he was a much better fit in the Eagles scheme, which is why they paid him like they did.

The Steelers desperately need to get back to drafting DL like they used to between Hargrave, Heyward and Tuitt in the prior decade and Hampton, Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel before that.

The Leals, Loudermilks, and Bentons just haven't cut it.

There is potential with Black and Harmon, but it is getting harder to be optimistic about Steelers draft picks with so many flopping in recent years.

THE LEAUGE only uses 3 DL around that same percentage. This is not simply a Tomlin thing. The Bills hardly ever line up in their base defense. Of all the things to bash him for this isn't one of them, this is the trend in the league. I can see it changing again as running offenses come back into vogue but with QB centric run teams that changes the equations again and causes issues with 3 DL. When Harmon gets back and if Black can get rolling we may just see a bit more if our DBs can hold up well in base.
Not asking him to use 3 DL all the time, yes it's a passing league, so team use less of that, but when you're facing the best running back in the NFL who happens to be bigger than your LB, wouldn't you gear up to stop that??? Like putting some more beef in the game??? Or when the game is in progress and you can't stop the run with 2 DL, you change or adjust! How'd Philly look vs KC using 3 and 4 DL in the Super Bowl?

Who is running on us in the 3 or 4 WR set? I've said a 1,000 times, I'd use more 3-3-5, and stop trying to use my damn ILB to cover WR's, another staple of Tomlins defense forever. Timmons, trying to cover Welker, Bostic trying to cover the rugby player from NE, whoever it was that Keenan Allen was killing years ago

Ha, tell me where the lie was at? Or are you saying your account got hacked now and people are misrepresenting you using your username??

I’ll keep saying this that Benton is not a NT. He needs kicked to tackle and Black needs to be the NT. That will help stop the run game.
Then I think having both these light in the *** Queen and Wilson as ILBers does not work. They are getting blown out of the play. You want to keep one of these guys in there fine but you need a thumper to play along side one of them.
If Queen is in there then Holcomb should be next to him. You need a thumper in the middle to help stop the run.

Hard one answer. I would agree 100% if you didn’t also have a QB who can run Ike a Cheetah. It makes the bigger defense more of a liability from the speed size. When working well that offense is hard to stop with two weapons like that. I am not sure what the answer is.

We know what the wrong answer is.

You guys need some consistency on here, or at minimum you need to stop contradicting yourselves. If im not mistaken KB played more NT then any other position in college. Its sort of convenient to say a person can't play NT just because he's not working out at that position, but I've recalled multiple comments of people having issues with Tomlin playing players out of position from where they played in college (i.e. BJ) (including the OP). Now you have some having the audacity to say they ruined a certain player and is wasting their talent when Tomlin tried playing them at the position they excelled at in college.

It may be that Benton needs to be tried at a different position, but you can't have it both ways otherwise it becomes damn if you do damn if you dont situation and thats not fair to the coach or the coaching staff for that matter. Its definitely true that Benton is not working out at the NT position apparently because hes too light, but no doubt if he started out at a different position on the line and didnt work out there you would be saying "Well look how Tomlin ruined this guy because he played him out of his natural position".

If you're going to pile it on lets be objective about it at least and not just focus on one person specifically because hes an easy target. How much blame needs to be placed on the player himself? How much blame needs to be placed on scouting/drafting? There's certainly enough blame to go around everywhere when a player doesnt work out.

Tomlin has final say in drafting, that’s on him too.
