Big 12 guts what remained of Pac 12

Don't know much about college football politics but losing an entire conference aligned fairly geographically doesn't sound good. But again not much to say about it cause I don't really know anything major.

Their TV contract was terrible, limited to the PAC-12 Network that no one carried.

TV $$$$$$ speaks.
Odd that those teams were worth only $20 million for streaming in the Pac-12, but more in the other conferences, though, Oregon and Washington are only getting a percentage of the Big 10 deal.

The Big 12 actually has a decent footprint geographically speaking. Cincinnati, WVU, and UCF are actually the only teams that are a bit out there. The Big 10, oof, a disaster of geographical alignment adding the west coast teams. USC apparently wanted no part of Oregon in the conference.

FSU wants out of the ACC as soon as possible. It seems FSU, Clemson, UNC, and maybe Miami may be the last of the desirable programs to be poached. Notre Dame too, but they want to stay independent.

I want to know what happens when teams like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, etc. get tired of teams like Northwestern, Purdue, Vanderbilt, etc. making just as much TV revenue despite no one watching those teams. I could see these mega-conferences blowing up in the opposite direction breaking apart the revenue generators with everyone else.

Pac 12 was dead as soon as USC and UCLA went to the Big 10. From that moment, every team started looking for the escape hatch. Big 10 now adding Wash and Oregon.

It is only a matter of time until the Big 10 and SEC become the AFC and NFC of the top tier of college which is basically a semi pro league. It will end up with only 30 to 40 teams playing at this elite level. Teams that can't afford to play at that level will choose to drop down and form their own leagues.

I think teams like Indiana, Ole Miss, Pitt, Cal, etc. are going to get tired of being farm teams for the big money programs. You have a great freshman and then he leaves for money at a bigger school. The only way to compete is to pay more money. It's only a matter of time before the majority of the 100+ FBS teams decide they don't even want to try.

You could still have some good leagues of these Non-NIL teams. Basically look at the teams that generally finish 5th or worse in the major conferences and form new leagues.

You could put together the old eastern independents with Pitt, WVU, Syracuse, BC, Rutgers, MD, etc. A midwest league with Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky.

Of those 30-40, it'll be more like 3-4 teams playing at an elite level unless there is some sort of revenue sharing and salary cap. I'm sure the university presidents and athletic departments will love not having all that money to fund the non-revenue sports and instead going to the football players.

From what i've heard the ACC teams are stuck. They just signed new contracts that are pretty much unbreakable for like 10 years.

Notre Dame may not be part of that. They do their own thing. It seems ND will have to choose Big 10 or SEC in the near future. SEC has not shown interest yet in north team. It seems unlikely ND would not choose B10 since most of their traditional opponents will be there. ND will hold out as long as they can but their clout is shrinking.

Notre Dame is expected to get a new 60 to 70 million dollar per year TV Contract… they don’t need a conference because they are enabled by nitwits at networks …

Humor in a good way…………… thank you…………….. and yes, very true.!

Salute the nation

You don't get 60-70 million per year for nothing...
Stay independent Notre Dame!

Just say no to those "mega" conferences that are not good for the sport..

Excessive greed just destroyed a college football conference that stood for 108 years!

I don’t really care about the impending two mega conferences, but i do suggest a congressional referendum to force the Big 10 to change its damn name, because nothing says, “ college athletics is utterly stupid.” Like having a conference called “ the Big Ten” that has more than ten teams in it…

If you can’t count, you really shouldn’t be associated with higher education… 🤣🤣🤣🤣

They should just expand to 24 teams and call themselves “the Big 1”… that makes more sense in a way and probably would piss off the SEC fans more… which i am pretty sure is the real ultimate goal of all the Big 10 fans🤣🤣

Meh, with these conferences expanding to 20-30 teams, they may as well go back to all being independent schools and schedule games accordingly.

I don't think the SEC fans are worried about the Big 10, they don't win any national championships and that's all they worry about in the SEC. lol

To me, having 4 teams from the west coast in a conference with a bunch of midwestern and eastern teams defeats the whole concept. Divisions or conferences should be built around local and/or traditional rivalries. It's as stupid as the Pirates having the Milwaukee Brewers in their division, but only playing the Phillies twice a year.

Of course, it all began with Penn State joining the Big Ten in the early nineties. And it's all about money.

Yep. The teams that draw big crowds and sell ticket and merchandise revenue with huge viewership numbers are all going to align to get that mega contract deal and not have to worry about splitting ticket revenue with teams that can't sell out their stadiums. I could see two mega conferences like the SEC and Big Ten and everyone else begging for scraps.

Or call themselves the Big Union. I bet southern fans would love that.

Of course, it all began with Penn State joining the Big Ten in the early nineties. And it's all about money.

Penn State joining the Big 10 really did change everything. Paterno tried for years to put together a Big East with all of the eastern independents. Schools like Syracuse and Pitt said No because Penn State wasn't good enough in basketball, as if that mattered. Paterno then approached the Big 10 who were smart enough to see their brand had become stale and could use the new blood.

Once Penn State joined the Big 10, all those east teams even down to Miami and FSU saw the need for a conference and cobbled together a crappy Big East that didn't last long.

Imagine how great it would have been to have a Big East with all the old independents plus Miami and FSU. They may have even been able to get teams like Clemson, South Carolina, Virginia, VA Tech, Ga Tech, maybe even Arkansas

I hate what the Big Ten is doing. I liked Penn St joining, didn't mind Nebraska joining (but don't like that they've completely sucked the whole time), but Maryland and Rutgers, both competitively and geographically was ridiculous. Now the old Pac-8 (Pac-10? Pac-12) is pretty much gone and west coast teams are joining? Even more ridiculous. I could've understood Pitt, West Virginia, Notre Dame, maybe even Iowa St or Cincinnati, but USC and UCLA? Geography is out the window, I guess.

I still expect the Buckeyes to dominate, but I am a little worried about the QB this year. We'll see.

I'm probably not remembering correctly but I thought part of the stumbling block was that Paterno wanted two home games for every one road game with Syracuse and Pitt.

There was also the issue with how the money was shared with basically more benefits going to Penn State than the other schools.
