Big 12 guts what remained of Pac 12

I'm probably not remembering correctly but I thought part of the stumbling block was that Paterno wanted two home games for every one road game with Syracuse and Pitt.

i believe that was later after PSU joined the Big 10 and had limited non-conference games to schedule. They wanted 2 for 1 from some teams to guarantee the 7 home games per year. I don't think that was a consideration in the proposed conference.

They should just expand to 24 teams and call themselves “the Big 1”… that makes more sense in a way and probably would piss off the SEC fans more… which i am pretty sure is the real ultimate goal of all the Big 10 fans🤣🤣
I can see the Big One commercials now....

You don't get 60-70 million per year for nothing...
Stay independent Notre Dame!

Just say no to those "mega" conferences that are not good for the sport..

Excessive greed just destroyed a college football conference that stood for 108 years!
boo hoo

no one was crying on the internet when greed broke up the Southwest Conference back in the 90s

oh wait.....

Notre Dame is expected to get a new 60 to 70 million dollar per year TV Contract… they don’t need a conference because they are enabled by nitwits at networks …

they don't need it for money but they may need it to compete.

The playoff is going to expand and I don;t think they have the contract for very long. Meaning maybe 5 years from now after the playoff expands and they have to renegotiate the deals, there is no way The Big 10 and SEC won't demand like half the playoff slots. If it goes to 12, the B1G and SEC will demand at least 3 automatic slots each.

If they keep adding teams, maybe they take up 8 of the 12 slots and leave 4 slots for the Big 12, ACC and all the rest. That's what will ultimately get Notre Dame in a conference, when they start getting frozen out.

Penn State joining the Big 10 really did change everything. Paterno tried for years to put together a Big East with all of the eastern independents. Schools like Syracuse and Pitt said No because Penn State wasn't good enough in basketball, as if that mattered. Paterno then approached the Big 10 who were smart enough to see their brand had become stale and could use the new blood.

Once Penn State joined the Big 10, all those east teams even down to Miami and FSU saw the need for a conference and cobbled together a crappy Big East that didn't last long.

Imagine how great it would have been to have a Big East with all the old independents plus Miami and FSU. They may have even been able to get teams like Clemson, South Carolina, Virginia, VA Tech, Ga Tech, maybe even Arkansas
Virginia Tech joined the Big East for football only in 1991. So did West Virginia, Temple, and Rutgers. Miami joined that year for all sports. They already had BC, Syracuse, and Pitt. Had Penn State come on board, that would have been a decent conference of football teams.

Then the rest of the leagues just break off and have their own national championship game and we go back to split national champions… tv would love it, and honestly youd see more than the same four lame team’s cycling through the championship on one side …. Honestly I would rather that happen… let all the big money NIL money go to the boring two power conferences and the rest can develop guys that are all underdogs

I am following you.....But no way Notre Dame will be "frozen out"....even if they stay independent..
Way too many followers....and detractors...

I agree that eventually they will probably move into a conference....but don't think its because of that reason...
