When he came out of Georgia he was a consesus first round pick. Very athletic which should have been a Left Tackle right out of central casting.

I never played on the offensive line, or even on the offense, 160 years ago when I played so I'm asking those of you who perhaps have first-hand experience.

Is he poorly coached or do we think he is just not coachable?

I can see how he could get by on physical talent alone as he grew up in football but that Georgia team faced a lot of very good d-linemen in the SEC. He faced good competeition and had success in college against the Alabama/LSU/OleMiss/Auburn/Tennessee/etc linemen that are in the NFL today.

How does he become below-average at this level? Far below average.

This team misses on too many high draft picks.

Jones was always a high ceiling/low floor prospect.

He dominated with size and athleticism in college, but was sloppy from a technical standpoint, and hasn't gotten better in the pros in that regard.

His lack of development alone should probably cost Pat Meyer his job. They at the very least need to get Fautanu away from Meyer as soon as possible.

After watching him live yesterday, Much of the issue was him making the wrong decision rather than being physically overmatched. I think he would benefit more from a simpler blocking scheme that let him just go maul his man. I am growing weary of the zone blocking scheme altogether. May be it is the line coach. He isn’t the only issue. Issac may not be playing like we need either. If he struggles or misses his assignment that just magnifies Jones’ issues.

3 yrs on the team. First round pick. Its not like hes too slow or not strong enough.

What has the offensive line coach been doing. ? Good job broderick. Every day in practice?
-------------------------------------------------

Watching film,,, "ohh almost had a nice block there broderick"....

"Yes coach Tomlin.. They are all coached up and ready to go for this weekends game vs. the seahawks.,, "

"now if you block for more than 3 seconds youre wasting your energy,, just stop and get ready for the next play"

"Oh yes coach tomlin, i know we havent seen Anderson our back up swing tackle play at all since before friday night lights.. but im willing
to go out on a limb and vouch for him.... he's ready... He's been over there riding the bike for weeks now,,, he's ready!"

"uh , hey coach Tomlin,, you got any recent film on Calvin Anderson? I need to see how he performs you know,,, (IN GAME) in case we need to pull someone."

[tomlin] ,,, "uhhh welll ya know,,, we dont have any,, he hasnt played since 2023 when he played in 5 games as a back up. " "But hey im sure hes all good you know hanging
around the league this long, as a UDFA. But i think we have one play from last year when Dan Moores helmet came off and we had to send him in at Left Tackle for one play,, and he gave up a sack".

~things heard around the steelers facility....

I'm not sure how he did in the entire game yesterday, but I did focus on him on several pass plays, and he blocked his guy with no problems. They need to leave him in until at least after the bye week. Play through these 4 games, then make some adjustments and practice for the game after the bye, and see how things go. Heck, even Semeulo (spelling?) got blown up to give an easy sack on Rodgers.

We're also seeing a lot of the issues that come from not having your starters practice in the preseason. I know it's risky, but this is always an issue for the Steelers.

Some picks are reaches. Some just bust despite everyone's best expectations. Bush for sure. Looks like Broderick too. Now coaches matter. But not the difference btw. Stellar and bust. These guys all know how to coach. Scheme fit matters though.

What about the difference between adequate and aweful?

I think it’s a lack of good solid coaching. Would have been interesting to see how Jones would have developed under Munchack.
Didn’t help playing him out of his natural position for two years so Dan Moore could keep his job who said he couldn’t play RT.
Find it hard to believe they missed on two tackles in the first round. Got to look at the OL Coach here.

Broderick Jones was adequate v. Seahawks and awful v. Jers
maybe, but he is still the weakest link.

I just dont understand the lack of accountability after going to practice and being a paid pro ,, how do you come out and poop the bed like that.

Do you think that the defensive coaches are standing around scratching their heads,, wondering why the 2 MLB's are caught up in wash and cant get off blocks, when we only have 2 DL, and they arent trying to occupy offensive line bodies.?

Yeah i think we have some dumbassery goin on.

The impression that I get is that when he was drafted, it was in expectation that he would play at LT. Then because of lack of depth and or skill to play RT, Jones got moved there because they felt they could not move Moore. It looked like they felt that he could just relearn a new position, except that he struggled to be able to do that. Combine that with the lack of maturity from a young player, and the same young player seeing possible millions of dollars getting away from him and you get a completely unmotivated player. Now you move him back to where he should have been all along and expect him to instantly be the man. This doesn't even take into account that maybe the coaching is subpar or at least not able to connect with him.

This is why if I have two players available to me and one has had to work, scrap, claw and overachieve, I take that player over the other with much higher "possible" potential. Give me that undersized rabid dog everyday. That player can be moved anywhere and they will work their azz off to succeed.

Life was too easy for Broderick because he was always bigger than others, he doesn't appear to have ever had to face adversity and fight through it. He also looks to have given up on putting in the extra effort.

Any evaluation on Jones I see isn't very good. To some extent it's coaching, but I think a lot of it is on the player. My concern is Fautanu has way more upside and talent and it isn't showing in the regular season. IMO, that one is on coaching.

ALL of our ails are CLEARLY and CONCISELY coaching and development.
Period.
Full stop.
The sooner Art the Deuce turns it over to Dan the Deuce, and starts clean without Tomlin, the sooner we will no longer suffer this blatant incompetence.
Unfortunately, not holding my breath and know we're stuck with this uninspiring quote machine until at least his contract is up.
Which unfortunately is about 10 years too late at this point.

It is. And if an injury happens there, then everyone is screaming about it. But in the first two games, they have lost on the defense starters Elliot, Porter, and Highsmith. Idk. 2 games. What's the difference, really?

THat isa decent step for a guy in only his second start on the left who is still young raw and playing with an aging vet who missed all of the preseason next to him and seems to be on the decline at least early in the year. Isaac was supposed to lift him up and help him know what to do and that doesn't seem to be happening.

Fautanu graded poorly yesterday and Seaumalo looks awful, too. It’s just a mess.
Unlike others, I am willing to give the OL a number of games. This has to be one of the most inexperienced lines in the league Seaumalo has more games under his belt than the rest COMBINED at their current positions.

I still think Jones should have stayed at LG from day one, even if he didn’t play for a year or two

The Steelers are taking virtually universally high-graded drafts and terrific value players in each round and are doing absolutely nothing for them. However, I don't even have faith that if they took a guy like Jaxon Smith-Njigba over Broderick Jones that he would even be good here. Seumalo was just a solid lineman in Philadelphia and early on with the Steelers, but even as a veteran we are seeing regression.
