Thread from the news forum with article from SN. Here is my comment.

Since the title is about B. Jones, I figured I'd put my comment here. It is beyond laughable seeing so many Steelers fans (just read any of the PG chats and even some on here) that seem to have no idea Jones is a natural LT and that he stepped up to move to RT (never played it before in any significance) when Moore absolutely could not. He is now moving back to his natural LT. He is not SWITCHING to LT as he did as a rookie (and last year), SWITCHING to RT. He should feel much better being able to focus this offseason on his natural LT position and not trying to learn RT while staying somewhat sharp at LT in case he was needed due to Moore going down with an injury. I firmly believe he will be better this year at his natural position. Of course, I could be wrong, but the comments from so many about this are truly laughable. Give the kid a chance to show why they drafted him to be their LT.

Yeah... i get that with roster limitations guys have to play out of natural position, but with sports science where it is at, youd think teams would be able to figure out where a guy is optimized at.. not everyone can play every spot

Things just get all mixed up when one guy with a short leg comes before any other consideration.

I just hope that all OL guys this year have normal legs.

They just should have prioritized the first rounder who they traded up for over a fourth rounder who was going to be replaced and gone at the end of the '24 season. In the long run, all that was accomplished was one more year of wasted evaluation and development.

“Position flexibility” is overvalued by Tomlin, it’s yet another bastion of conservatism, having someone good at several jobs to protect against injury vs. a guy great at one job.

Jones, a high 1st round pick who 3 years after being drafted has yet to see the field in his natural position in any regularity: Clown-lin football at its finest. We've been waiting 3 years to finally see him play, just genius Clown-lin. Way to mismanage the team.

My thought is he likely now has more starts in the pros at RT then he had at LT in college. So now he is going to have to relearn all the LT footwork. It kinda wreaks of we made a bad pick here on a guy with great physical tools and maybe someone who was able to dominate College level talent. Now we are looking to salvage his substandard play by moving him to his college spot.

They should have never made the pick if they were going to give Moore so much more time to pan out. Complete idiocy. I don't even want to know what players we passed on to get Jones.

When Jones was drafted he was the most athletic OT in the draft, but was very raw.. he was a couple year project starting out... so playing him at RT seems like a needless risk... because you trained him to do all the pro techniques from the right side... now you get one year on the keft to decide if you are gonna fifth year option him..

What you risked was twofold... the first that you stunted his growth playing him out of position, the second that you wont know if he is any good at LT by years end and then you either lock in his expensive 5tg year or risk him clicking in year 4 and then costing near QB money to retain with little actual production at the position you drafted him for

Spotlight suddenly illuminates Mike Tomlin who has been sitting quietly in the dark unnoticed. Alarmed that the light has focused on him he taps Pat Meyer who is sitting beside him and swaps seats.

This is the tenure of Mike Tomlin

Have to agree with this one.

He had to learn to play RT and stay sharp at LT. He was doing both in his first preseason. In his first offseason, he had to focus on both to get better at RT and stay sharp at LT. Now, in his second offseason, he can focus back on his natural position of LT with maybe a little RT thrown in. I equate this to being amidextrious as I am. I am a natural left-hander but have learned to also use my right hand. Am I as good with my right hand? Absolutely not. Will I ever be? Probably not even if I focus on it 90% of the time. Your natural left-handed tendencies are still in your subconscious.

Tomlick: "Let's trade up to get Jones and then play him out of positiion. Laugh, snort. We do not care".
That is exactly what happened, for two freaking years! Unbelievable mismanagement of talent on display.

This was obvious when happening, and would rise to shameful if Thomas cannot perform adequately this season.

That’s been my sentiment all along. Jones should have been starting LT from day 1. I’m talking the second he was chosen, he was starting LT. His rawness didn’t merit postponing his Developement for the sake of a 4th round last place LT. There could have been an opening line for competition or bring in a RT.

Creed Humphrey was drafted and started day one. It can be done biut Coach Tomlin choose another path and we paid in production for it. It may even cost us a 1st round failure.

I see Jones struggling a little, about mid-season he will start to develop into his potential. Why so late on his rookie contract ? What made Dan Moore so valuable to keep ?

Pat Meyer contributed in this fiascal by not deeming Moore accountable. Allowing Jones to be moved without consciousness of actual damage being done.

Over-all, we are essentially starting a rookie LT now in Jones, his career is about to start.

This is how Tomlin operates. He's loyal to a guy to a major fault. He kept Jones at LT so as to not hurt his wittle feelings. Also, Pat Meyer has zero say in any matter of decisions from personnel, to scheme, to probably even the techniques used or the food they're eating in the cafeteria. Tomlin has his mediocre fingers on every nuanced decision. Why anyone wants to work for him I'll never know. It's a career killer in the NFL.

you can stop now. we're all very aware that you're not a fan of Tomlin. The vast majority of the board is ready to run him off, too.

Moore stated he couldn't get the kick-out to play RT.
I say Moore also couldn't get the kick-out to play LT.
but somehow Moore was even worse at RT than LT. But was also somehow better at LT than the backups at LT if Jones was kept at RT. and, mind-boggingly, better at LT than the backups were at RT. So odd. Maybe our backup OL is pure ****. Seems that way.

Though with Moore now holding a red cape in Nashville, Jones at LT is going to happen. Hopefully Fautanu can stay healthy at RT. If so, our OL just got better. A LOT better.

Hey, remember a certain likely HOF bound first round pick on DL couldnt start for 3 years because he was stuck behind the ever average Ziggy Hood...
🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’m sure you meant Moore and not Jones, easy flip.

As for Pat Meyer, I brought him into the conversation to prove exactly what you are saying. Pat Meyers couldn’t stand up to Tomlin for anything. Sadly, that goes for all sub-coaches, even if they see a better fit / situation / etc..

Muncheck would not of put up with the above scenario proven by his leaving (silent cause). Muncheck may have bickered with Tomlin, but altimately Tomlin is the HC. Muncheck got tired of it and left (other reason were given, diplomacy).

Tomlin or Lloyd-clown…………………… I’m for both.
