Broderick Jones

Ok I'm going to put this out here again... to have a great oline you dont need 5 great olinemen... the adage
is one great lineman, one above average and three good to average guys... if one of these guys is great and one is borderline pro bowl level we will be set for a long long time at oline...

Frazier will be battling Humphrys for the pro-bowl. It will be interesting to see those two down the stretch.

Steelers OT Broderick Jones was getting his right hip area worked on by the trainers after leaving the 7 shots period.

Minor soft tissue injury. He will be day to day.

May be just the kick in the butt they need to realize a swing tackle is a need.

I think it is our biggest need. Fauntinu played ONLY 52 snaps last season, Jones played terribly and out of position.

IMO, as I have expressed in other Jones related threads, the problem lies with our substandard OL coach for the overall lack of development.

Jones looked better in his “raw” rookie tape than he has since. Let’s see if Dan Moore’s play improves in Tennessee. I’m betting it will. Seumalo looked better in Philly, Daniels looked better in Chicago etc. We had two rookies that played well last year. Will they regress like all other have in their 2nd year under PM?

While not all high picks at LT become superstars, we picked a “raw” LT and played him at RT, THEN we picked an experienced LT and also played him at RT. Don’t be surprised if Fautanu ends up at HIS “natural position” at LT because Jones’ development was squandered/sabotaged with PM’s non-standard tutelage.
Best case scenario would be to use Aaron’s close friendship with David Bakhtiari to bring him in with an incentive laden contract based on playing time (based on the risk of his knee holding up). He was the highest paid LT in football in 2020 before his ACL injury. At best we get a competent LT capable of an all-pro season who Rodgers is close with and at worst, we get an former all-pro to coach up one of our 2 drafted LTs.

So Jones or Bakhtiari fills in at RT or LT as necessary? If Bakhtiari is healthy, this is a good plan.

Meyer wasn't a good hire and they should've replaced him, but it hasn't all been awful when it comes to individual play.

Seumalo was a part of a much better line in Philadelphia, but he's still been relatively consistent and his lingering health issues probably have more to do with his play than anything.

Daniels had a rough start in Pittsburgh and then was playing at an All-Pro level until he got injured last season.

Dan Moore, as bad as he has been, actually played way over his head to start the season last year before regressing to the norm.

Zach Frazier was already one of the best centers in the game and Troy Fautanu was getting rave reviews prior to his season-ending injury. Mason McCormick was half decent for a small school, day-three rookie who was thrust into the starting lineup.

Now the unit as a whole is an utter disaster at times and the entire plan for Broderick Jones and his development was nothing short of terrible. With that said, there has been some individual development and Jones needs to take accountability in this as well. The Steelers took a pretty big risk taking a raw tackle in the draft and while I think they've failed to put him in position to succeed, I'm not so sure he's done everything possible on his end either.
