Buckle-up boys! One week from today. Finally!

Based on his pedigree before he got to the QB Developmental Power House known as Penn State ;) You also can't teach velocity.....the kid has a cannon arm. The whole west coast offense is predicated on footwork. I saw a really good video of Bill Walsh going through his offense once. The receivers make their cuts coordinated with the QBs drop backs. It's all footwork and timing based and coordinated with the receivers. Allar went poo poo when his footwork went poo. Who knows if he can be remade or not but if there is a guy who can do it it's McCarthy and if Allars footwork is remade, you are left with a laser arm who can fit balls into tight windows

Here is what was said about Josh Allen at Wyoming.......
Coming out of Wyoming, Josh Allen’s footwork was highly erratic and disconnected from his upper body, leading to major draft concerns. Because his feet weren't aligned with his targets, his front hip frequently closed prematurely. This prevented hip rotation, forcing him to over-rely on his arm and causing inconsistent ball placement and low completion percentages. The mechanical and physical issues that defined his footwork in college included:

Disconnected Sequence: Allen’s feet and eyes were famously out of sync, as evaluators noted before the draft.Platform Inconsistency: He often threw off his back foot, "arm-punched" his throws, and failed to plant firmly on his intended line.

Platform Inconsistency: He often threw off his back foot, "arm-punched" his throws, and failed to plant firmly on his intended line.

Stance Base: He tended to have a narrow base, which reduced his throwing power and made his accuracy suffer under pressure

In-Game Adjustments: Without a strong supporting cast at Wyoming, he frequently tried to compensate by over-striding, throwing from awkward platforms, and relying entirely on his elite arm strength rather than fundamental mechanics.

Now the same exact things were said about Allar and look at his receivers while he was there. He didn't have OSU receiver talent like Howard did and it wasn't remotely close.

Allar might suck but he also might be a franchise QB one day. It was a high reward relatively low risk pick. For God's sake we spent a third on Caleb and he might ot even make the darn team.

One last thing I will say is I often go back in time and take a look at the Rivals 100 top high school players. A lot of the guys ranked in the the top 50 never amount to anything but you'd be surprised how many of the all pro talents the game produces were 5 star kids in high school. Allar I believe was the number 1 QB in his class......so was Justin Fields so it may mean squat but I'll draft a top rated QB in high school that has a rocket arm that was mismanaged in college in the 3rd all frigging day long. He's the inverse Kenny Pickett......Kenny performed in college but is on the small.side, has tiny hands, and never had a rocket arm and we took him in the first. Where did that get us.......go with talent!!!
Your whole thesis comes apart with the fact the Bills don't run a WCO...they have a hybrid system, more of a read option system BECAUSE they have Josh Allen...thats why you see them in empty sets and three tight end sets at times. No one is running a true WCO except for us if I understood Rodgers correctly in a recent interview. I'll believe it when I see it though..no one runs a true WCO anymore. We would be seeing 21 Personnel on the field the majority of the time and that doesn't fly in the 21st century version of the NFL.

Allen has had 7 postseasons to get a ring, lost to some questionable QB's, If he fails to ever win a superbowl he will be remembered as a great QB who couldn't get it done.
Same with lamar, Marino etc. Just is what it is.
I mean, I don't really know what else to say, but here goes: Allen has 38 total touchdowns and only 10 turnovers in 15 career playoff games. He has a 101.5 passer rating in the playoffs compared to 94.4 in the regular season. In the 2021 postseason (which included that loss to the Chiefs), he led all quarterbacks in completion percentage (77.4%), TD percentage (14.5%), yards per attempt (10.3), longest completion (75), passer rating (149.0), and a bunch of other categories. To lump that loss to KC among the games where you consider Allen a "choke artist" "not doing enough" is ludicrous.

Dan Marino had a 86.4 regular season passer rating compared to 77.1 in the playoffs. Lamar Jackson's numbers are 102.2 regular and 84.6 post. Just the opposite of what Allen has done.

It's interesting some of the posters on here with the homosexual comments. If they disagree with your post and you give them pushback, they start going gay. Don't know if you are 12, cant articulate your argument, are in the process of coming out of the closet, or flat out flaming already.

I was both critical and complimentary of Allar. He's a mixed bag as most QBs taken past the 1st are.

But here's essentially how some posters on here have responded to my posts about Allar

Me: He's got a lot of warts but he's got some elite traits too. He could be something

Poster: Allar sucks

Me: Never said he's gonna be all world but he has potential

Poster: You are gay and want to slob on Drew

Very bright very bright!!!
If say a homosex jumped on your back… would you beat him off?

"Hanging from his nutsack" is just an idiom, clown. Like "living in his jock." But since you had to bring it up, maybe it's you who has the closet issue.

Your argument: Drew Allar has a big arm, and by golly all these people have said he's really shltty just like Josh Allen was at Wyoming...and look at how great Josh Allen is now! Will Howard sucks.

My argument: I watched Drew Allar every game for four years at Penn State, and a strong arm alone is not enough. He's got a whole bunch of areas needing vast improvement, and he's nothing like Josh Allen. Will Howard needs an opportunity to show what he can do at this level, and shouldn't be summarily dismissed.

But no, my argument is that you are gay. Very bright.
So I'm a gay genius? I'll take that as half a compliment lol

Allar.......Allen. I think you know I'm saying they are not the same. Just saying talented qbs with ****** mechanics have been remade. It's possible. Honestly I don't give a flying F who becomes our franchise QB. I just pray to Lord Baby Football Jesus he comes soon

It all means zero without a championship. Even Josh would agree.
Allen has 15 fumbles 4 lost in 15 playoff games.
Ben had 8 fumbles 3 lost in 23 playoff games.
Brady 16 fumbles 5 lost in 48 playoff games.

You wanted to pull stats to justify 0 for 7 in postseasons.
Bottom line Allen has had a top 10 Defense and running game and yet?

Allen is a great QB. Lots of teams would welcome him with open arms. I'd be ecstatic if he was the Steelrs QB

The defense has stunk in many of the playoff losses. Nearly Steelers-level playoff defense in terms of points allowed.

*sigh*

As @Polambertberger has already correctly pointed out, Ben had 28 interceptions in those 23 games. Allen only has 6 INTs in his entire postseason career.

So, once again: Allen has 10 turnovers in 15 playoff games. Ben had 31 turnovers in 23. And (unlike Allen) Ben had a much higher passer rating in the regular season: 93.5 versus 86.7.

Trying to demean anyone by comparing them to Brady is a waste of time.

Ben's Biggest gift was playing his best ball when it mattered most. "Clutch Gene"
Josh Allen is a great QB, one of the best in the league. He unfortunately has the "choke under the bright lights gene"

I love Ben, and he got the Steelers there in 2005 with phenomenal playoff performances, but when the lights were the brightest, in the Super Bowl, he had a 22.6 passer rating. I guess his clutch gene had that day off. If Josh Allen ever had that horrendous of a performance, I could understand your point.

I've already refuted that statement with specific examples which you cannot deny. And Allen still has plenty of time left to win a Super Bowl.

Ben wasn't great in his first SB, and that pick six against Greenbay killed us but man he was clutch in the 2 min drill against Arizona

Exactly......its very hard to predict who is going to be great

Yeah P Manning looked like a sure thing and he ended up a HOFer. If you knew Mahomes was gonna be the stud he is he wouldn't have lasted until the 10th pick (of course the Chiefs were nuts about him predraft). Then you have Brady or guys like Rodgers who went like 26th, Ben went 13th, Marino went late in the 1st, and even guys like Wilson and Prescott who didn't go in the 1st. Lots of QBs go later then they should have.

On the other hand how many frigging busts have there been taken high in the 1st round. The system they were in college, the speed of college vs pros etc etc all lay to uncertainty.

Allar starts with size and a rocket arm. Whether or not he becomes something who knows but he's got traits that made it worthwhile to take him in the 3rd. The Steelers FO, regardless of their miscues know 10x more than anyone on this board in regard to potential. McCarthy has been around Farve, Rodgers, and Prescott. I think he's got a pretty good idea of what a good QB possesses. There was no QB we could have got in the 1st that was a sure thing. They made a move in the 3rd. Give the FO the benefit of the doubt. McCarthy is going to be more effective with Drew's development than Big Game James

Great post topseed, those %s show a lot.

I haven’t viewed Josh as a choke artist, but the team as a whole has let them down.

The Chiefs got a little “NFL” favoritism along the way so there is that.

0-7 is fact. It's also undeniable.

Under Mike Tomlin’s scheme that would be a pure waste of talent.

Under Mike McCarthey scheme that has yet to be seen.
