GOV. GAVIN NEWSOM CURTAILS PLAN FOR HIGH-SPEED RAIL, PLANS TO ONLY BUILD BETWEEN MERCED AND BAKERSFIELD

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he's ending the state's effort to build a high-speed rail line between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Newsom said Tuesday in his State of the State address it "would cost too much and take too long" to build the line long championed by his predecessor, Jerry Brown.

Latest estimates pin the cost at $77 billion and completion in 2033.

And he says abandoning that portion of the project would require the state to return $3.5 billion in federal dollars.

Who the hell wants to go to Bakersfield?

High speed.... to Bakersfield? For that you can take a bus!

hahahahahahahaha

No wonder Florida dumped the idea from the start!

I'm glad Scott kept us out of that ****.

No ****!

Makes for good Dem bashing headlines too, lol, pretty much blows that whole New Green Deal up in their faces

McCarthy praises California governor for abandoning 'train to nowhere'

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) praised California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday for abandoning plans to build a massive high-speed rail line he dubbed a "train to nowhere."

"The train to nowhere is finally stopped," McCarthy tweeted. "This is the right move by @GavinNewsom."

"I look forward to working w/ Governor Newsom and federal officials in the coming weeks to best mitigate what has already been wasted on high-speed rail due to the previous Administration."

The massive infrastructure plan was a legacy of his predecessor, fellow Democrat Jerry Brown.

This **** has been a boondoggle and unmitigated disaster from day one. A high speed rail between Los Angeles and SF? Oh, you mean like a $100 cost round trip for something that takes about 90 minutes each way? Like that, you mean?

I think I can already do that on something called an airplane. OAC's green-dream of unicorn farts providing transportation is not yet a reality, so I guess I am stuck with something that, you know, WORKS.

Meanwhile, the projected cost for the stupid and unnecessary high speed rail had gone from $19 billion to $28 billion to $39 billion to $55 billion to $68 billion to $77 billion. WHEEEEEEEE!!!!

I'm glad Scott kept us out of that ****.

Yep and remember how the Bommaites demonized him for it.

LaHood said in a statement that he was "extremely disappointed" in Scott's move.

"We worked with the governor to make sure we eliminated all financial risk for the state, instead requiring private businesses competing for the project to assume cost overruns and operating expenses."

He also cited "overwhelming demand for high-speed rail in other states that are enthusiastic to receive Florida's funding."

Scott, 58, proposed a fiscal 2012 budget last week that cuts spending by $4.6 billion. He said in a letter to LaHood that he would rather spend the money intended for rail on highways and on dredging ports to accommodate larger cargo vessels

Liberal leadership. What a bunch of crap. I wonder who's spouse got rich on that stupid.

Who the hell wants to go to Bakersfield?

Bakersfield? Maybe from LA. Maybe. But not 'high speed'. But Merced to Bakersfield? Are they high? Stupid question.

I'm picturing signs in Merced - 'High Speed to Fresno - the Gateway to Bakersfield'. Doesn't work as well the other way around.

Oh, I know... 'Speed your lettuce to market on High speed'. Next day in the stores... 'Lettuce - $9.99'. Socialists don't understand capitalism.

Oh, every California resident with an intellect greater than a peanut virulently opposed the idiocy and knew the entire venture was a giveaway to contributors, friends, business cohorts, classmates, etc.

Unfortunately, in California, only perhaps 35% of the population has an intellect greater than a peanut. $77 billion (more like $500 billion when all is said and done) for trains that are actually slower and more expensive than air travel?!? WHEEEEEEEEE!!

Just what the federal government needs for the border wall.

I fully realize this is a state issue, but the spectacular waste of public resources pervades politics. Both parties - but the dims do it at the wholesale level.

Take the esteemed US Representative from California district 12. Please. 30 years in the house at salaries ranging from the low 100s to the high 100s and this criminal has amassed a $200M fortune, much of it being buried in 'Isolep Enterprises'. 'Isolep'. Get it? How does that happen except through this sort of @#$%.

In 2018 alone, the federalies took in record revenues of $3,328,745,000,000. For the peanuts in Merced, that's a @#$%pile of money. Yet they spent well over $4.5T. Without the slightest concern for the consequences. There isn't an occupant in any seat in gubmint, with the possible exception of the CiC and his CoS that gives a @#$% that we run $1+T deficits EVERY FREEKIN YEAR and that the national debt is crowding $20T, and that we have over $200T in unfunded obligations. And that doesn't even count what the states and locals have done to us. I'll stop right here. Breathe Vincent!

Seriously. Something needs to be done. The criminal enterprise needs to be destroyed without mercy.

Oh, and one more thing on this subject. Remember the $T 'stimulus' that bathhouse barry ran off with? Has even a cent of that ever been accounted for? 'Shovel ready jobs'? Vaffanculo.

And we can't secure our border with another criminal enterprise. That's rich.

yeah, its a racket

Gov. Newsom vows to keep $3.5B in federal funds

“California will spend $1.6 billion so they do not have to return $3.5 billion to the federal government.”

Dems only like projects that cost too much and take too long when they are federally funded. Then they love them.

Socialists love railroads because they can control when and where people go places.

Take it all back

Trump administration to cancel $929 million in California high-speed rail funding

The U.S. Transportation Department announced Tuesday it would attempt to cancel $929 million in federal grant funds for California’s troubled high-speed rail project.

The move marks an escalation in the war between President Trump and California in the days since Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a rethinking of the bullet train project after years of cost overruns.

The Transportation Department also announced it was “actively exploring every legal option to seek the return from California of $2.5 billion in federal funds.” It’s unclear whether it has the legal authority to do so, and California would probably oppose such a move.

In a short statement, federal officials said California had “failed to make reasonable progress” on the project and questioned whether it could be completed on the schedule in the grants.

U.S. cancels $929 million in California high speed rail funds after appeal rejected

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration said on Thursday it was formally cancelling $929 million in previously awarded funding for California’s high-speed rail program after rejecting an appeal by the state

The U.S. railway regulator, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), said on Thursday it had canceled the funding awarded in a 2010 agreement after it said the state had “repeatedly failed to comply” and “failed to make reasonable progress on the project.”

In a statement, the FRA said it was still considering “all options” on seeking the return of $2.5 billion in federal funds the state has already received.
