Cam Heyward wants a new deal

Its Rumored the Rooneys want a new stadium soon... thats why they are bringing the draft here...

Let me say I will campaign against any taxpayer money for that at all... and if tgey threaten to leave, I will help pack their bags

Id miss them, but not enough that they should get a billion dollars or more in tax money.

The NFL grossly inflates its value to an area. No city has ever collapsed over losing a sports team... they dont matter that much
Where have you seen these rumors? Rooney has said they plan to extend the lease at the very least through the Acrisure naming rights and Steelers reporters have echoed the same. The only rumors I've seen have been a new practice facility with renovations to the stadium to move it into the future, particularly with the Steelers/Pirates having development rights between the stadiums and free public transit. Factor in Shapiro saying don't even ask for state money, there really hasn't been any smoke to any talk of a new stadium.

The Steelers should just do what they did with AB for Cam and Boswell. With that said, Cam signed the wrong contract last year if he was going to come right back and demand more money. Get a one-year extension and then this process would've been a lot easier.

What complicates this is Cam does a lot for the community and always presents himself as a face of the franchise, but also hasn't won anything of consequence as a leader of the team. Factor in asking for a larger contract a year after a new deal and it just won't play off well with many fans.

Cam won't get much if they try to trade him. He might get a 5th, at best. He is a one or two year rental, if he can still play at the level he did last year. The odds are not in Cam's favor. The Steelers gave him a very good contract for a dude his age. They actually paid him top dollar, and he signed the contract. If he wants out, he should (but won't) give the money back.

Puts a little different perspective on things.......................

Good article from right here at steelernation.com (Home page)

Cam does have ground to stand on, so I'm not trading him immediately but will hear him out to a degree.

If this whole thing gets to big, then I deal him.

His age will keep his contract out of the top ten, Might be looking #15.

Just cuz Cam made a “mo money” comment about a little statement changes nothing to me unless the team explicitly said “sure Cam, if you make all Pro we’ll address the situation”

Seems he just had a good year at the right time

He equally could’ve spent a bunch more time on the sidelines (as he has before) and/or put up another 2 sack season…the Steelers took that risk and gave him an opportunity extension at his advanced age anyway.

So his remark changes nothing to me unless the Steelers confirmed they’d be open to yet another renegotiation. Seems like just another cash grab for a guy/hypocrite that had a good season at the right time.

Trade his azz unless ya agreed to renegotiating, which by the sounds of the article was not the case…a laugh is not an affirmation.

Why there were no bonuses clause for achievements in the signed contract if he wanted them ?

He did say he wants to be one of highest paid at his position, if I heard that right, so I think he's looking for more than 6 million pushed forward.

I agree, about his contract last year, IMO he was coming off a bad injury plagued season at the age of 35, he and his agent took what they could get, they should've negotiated some performance bonuses or something.

Just another thumb in the eye and reason why the product overall is a turnoff. This is the guy we've been told is Captain America and an All Time Steeler and this is what we get. IIR he also to took the lead rushing to honor the thug with the helmet decal. We talk about these things more than his playoff win total and disappearing act in some of those games.

Have the Steelers ever given a 35 year old player a 3 year extension like they did Cam?

I agree with you Fiji Mariner, I was showing a different perspective of the Cam.

This DK Daily Shot definitely talks about a little more depth to the situation.

DK brings up a VERY good point of why didn’t his agent get wording into the existing contract about if the all pro season ?

I think Cam is money grabbing at the end of his career. He can say what ever he wants about telling the Steelers about his all pro season and re-writing the contract should that happen…… Get that in writing Cam & Agent, otherwise it’s just chatter along the way.

In the end, the big three will cave (Tomlin / Kahn / Rooney) and will give Cam a boost. this will open up future issues but they don’t care, they are soft………….. just like the teams of the past.

It’s a good listen.

Cam wants to bet on himself A-F-T-E-R the fact.

Why wasn’t he willing to bet on himself durring the negotiations of the 3yr extension……………

Easy to hind-sight where-as the Steelers were the ones to take the risk.

Remember, he is currently un der contract and has no leverage.

If he holds out, he becomes a year older and the possibility of the Steelers recouping some of the paid out moneys (through fines)

NO body understands the problems 6 millions dollars comes with........

Is this a good time to bring up that Cam has 1 career sack in the playoffs in 9 games? Or is playoff performance just reserved for Watt?
Especially invisible vs Jags and Browns.

Not that I recall, but you of all people should remember that Ben was given a 5-year extension in 2015 at the age of 33. And unlike Cam is doing, Ben honored the vast majority of that contract. He then signed a 2-year extension in 2019, when he was 37.

Also I believe Cam has 1 playoff win....if I am correct it was his rookie year where I don't know if he even made it onto the field.

****** thing is he will get paid but he made himself look like an ******* for forcing the issue. He should have got this put into his deal last year. So much for if you want to be here...

Real men honor commitments that they make. I have ZERO sympathy for these guys who makes deals then whine about them later. Now if you are at the end of your deal, then by al means negotiations can be done as you like. If you are under contract for X years, then do as you agreed. I feel the same regarding the team management too.
I agree except for one thing. NFL contracts are not guaranteed and teams can cut a player and not pay the full balance of his contract anytime.
I do think the players should hold out for guaranteed contracts at renegotiation time.
