Today's game will never allow for smothering and intimidating defenses. No headhunting and punishing players that come across the middle. The game today is all about offense and safety and frankly is pretty boring. The days of real football is over and the true football fans are becoming fewer and farther between. This is why the NFL needs fantasy football, gambling and now women to grow their crappy product.

They will not come close, yes the game has changed but did Steel curtain have a weakness back then. This defense can play well but it also can go South fast as in many fourth quarter games last year.

Somethings NEVER change. Blocking,tackling and attitude.
You can absolutely still play exactly the same. Minus a clothesline or two. If you look at the 1970's, you saw textbook fundamentals. Not much else. Relentless swarming to the ball as one unit. Ferocious,violent and within the rules.
Those guys held each other accountable. Unfortunately you have more look at me individual bullshit. Too many coddled rich boys and not enough men looking to achieve something great above a fat paycheck. Just my perception. I just don't see the heart of a champion yet.
I don't see "The Steel Curtain"ever happening again. 2008 was as close as it gets.
The early 1990's got close as well.

No, but I think that they have the possibility of being a top 10 defense this year. I would feel better about the defense if they were able to strengthen the cornerback room but can’t have everything this year. With the addition of Obi Wan Gunjobi, Loudermilk bulking up, Adams, Wormley and Leal being depth pieces, Alualu returning- I feel pretty good about the defensive front.

Gotta cut them some slack when the offense didn't give them breaks. How many times did they create opportunities for the Offense only to be a 3 and out? This happened a lot. I saw a defense that a lot of times was gassed. Many times you would see the O do a 3 and out after the D just got off the field and you could see it in players' eyes with the look of "again" or "we just sat down".
Or how many times did the D have to play some tough first and even 2nd quarters cause time after time they had to bail out the offense cause they could never get going till later on. Yeah, Ben was one of the best at coming from behind, sadly he was one of the worst at getting ahead as well.

The defense is going to be very good. Still question marks at corner, safety and MLB (BusT). The offense needs to do their part and keep them off the field or they will be like the 19' team that gassed out in the second half of games.
