Can we talk about Johnson?

I'd engage but I am going to enjoy beating the Browns and leave this likely dead horse for much kicking in our now started offseason.

Trade him and bring in a Vet. And of course draft another one. This game he showed off everything he is about.

I wanted to pay him $15 max but the WR market went crazy. He took an extension that I believe averaged less than the $18 million. Most WR1's and many WR2's were getting $20 million+. Him being our WR1 made the deal decent at the time. I still think without Canaduh and KP with a year of experience, DJ and Pickens will make a good 1-2 punch.

Can we just send his *** packing? How about restructuring Picken's rookie deal. Offer him a 10 year, $200 mill contract and see what happens! The Steelers are not going to be able to afford in at the end of his contract unless we franchise tag him. Offing him a bunch of o's may just save us some money in the end when he could be making near 30 mill per year! Offer him incentives after the first 5 years as well to help boost his bank account. And....... guarentee 3/4 of it!

I like the fact that DJ is really good at getting open with separation. The route running and catching is abysmal and needs work. I doubt he will ever be able to kick these last 2 habits. If he can clean up the drops. The route running thing you can live with. Dropping the ball could and will end up being costly down the road in important games. We are talking easy drops thrown right to him.

He worked HARD one off-season and came back changed hands. Towards the end of that season he regressed and sailed back towards those bad habit.. He has lost all he worked for in turning around his original habits.

I’d think he would know what he has to work on but it seems he just isn’t aware Or just doesn’t care.

Salute the nation

Let's not forget we have Calvin Austin 3....not as good a route runner as DJ at this point but has the potential to be.

Positives
— Flashes the ability to beat press coverage with quickness at the line of scrimmage. Will blow by corners who don't get a hand on him at some point in his route.

— Reliable hands. Willing to work over the middle of the field to make hard catches in traffic.

— Short stepper with buildup long speed who can stack corners if he beats them off the line.

—.Tough and willing to compete and scrap as a blocker.
— Good ball skills. Maximizes his size to the fullest and shows off the ability to adjust for tough catches away from his body.

— Has punt return ability.

Negatives
— Short height and very small frame.

— Will rise up when getting into route breaks. Telegraphs his moves to defenders.

— Can be very loose with his routes.

You can't get a first he is more than a second. Is what he is.

Dionte Johnson’s stats and traits combined with his moderate contract for those stats, puts him solidly in the first round value.., you might be able to get as high as tge Falcons or Titans to bite with their firsts for him and and some modest salary retention

If i was convinced that Addison was going to be there at those spots, I’d be all for it… you don’t just dump the dude for anything… you have to have a plan to replace him. If you don’t target a guy that can contribute asap, then you just hold onto him

Look they saw physical size etc on Claypool and said he is on first contract. DJ is on second and ain't cheap. And is going to need to be dealt with after next season. No one is giving a first. No one.

Johnson is a good WR but not a great one. A team is unlikely to give up a 1st for him. Yeah, the Eagles gave up one of their 1sts for AJ Brown, but that dude dominated games catching passes from Ryan Tanneyhill and is a game changer.

Johnson is not.

You are 100% wrong… several wrs with similar numbers were traded for firsts last year then immediately signed contracts bigger than his.

Right now great route runners are valued like never before by OCs because you can use them to pull apart coverages for everyone else… Stryker is right about that… but we haven’t done that great since Arians left… so his best trait is kind of less valuable here
