Cautiously optimistic

We seem to have found a decent QB, big. OL not so much. DL playing decent, LBs playing super sometimes, DBs holding their own. RBs playing well recently. WRs playing as good as we can expect with basically ONE legit player lining up. How far can Mediocre Mike take this group? Can they finally beat a playoff team? After 7 years?

So now both Tomlin and the players are mediocre? But being 6-2 proves Tomlin cannot be mediocre but must be doing a good job with this group.
What will you do when Tomlin wins a playoff game?

Disappear until they loose

This upcoming game with Wash will be a good test. I said we match up will with KC because they are kinda built like is now. They have hopkins now but their WR group is very lackluster. They have mahomes and kelce, but their running game is not great. They have a solid D and find ways to win games, but they are not blowing people away

I think many, including myself would join you. Many would think the STEELERS are “back” and assume success for the future………………..

I think we need 2 playoff wins, I know I’m asking for a little much, but It would definitely show we could compete current and longer term.

Just 2? I thought the entire reason that we brought Russ in was because he can get is to the SB?

They don't award the SB until Feb, which requires winning several games in Jan.

The Steelers have been an upside surprise this season only because of substandard results for the past 7/8 years.......so while that is a good start this season, winning in Dec to compete in Jan is another level, and winning in Jan to play in Feb still feels like it is a long way off.

Since it seems the Steelers could limp into the POs with a 4-5 second half, would folks here regard that as the performance of a strong Steeler team?

I'd like to see them go 6-3, winning with strong fundamentals built around a sound running game, strong D and peppered with individual displays of results, like we have seen in the first half season.

B+ first half, but the final grade comes after the POs.

Certainly not classy, but is he wrong?
IIRC the Jets and Giants had or have top 10 passing defenses. Russ and the receivers delivered against them while the defense had a down day.

I never knew crack could make you look young again...I always thought it made a person look older, but apparently Michael Irvin has found the crack fountain of youth and is really upset at the lack of respect being given to Russell Wilson.

I'm also realistic. I've seen enough of Tomlin for 13 years to have very low expectations.
I can say the same thing. The difference I see now is we are beating the teams we are supposed to (other than maybe Cowboys) and he isn't meddling it seems like on the offensive side of the ball like he has in the past. This looks like an Arthur Smith offense with the almost perfect QB for it.

I say almost perfect because it would be truly perfect if this was 27 or 28 year old Russ.

Cam comes across as a full of himself narcissistic arrogant douchebag. A guy who never won a championship with a big ego who dresses like a 70's pimp. **** him.
He starts out by asking "Are you impressed?"
Completely ignoring the fact that Wilson had not played since early December of 2023 other than a few preseason passes. Wilson delivers the ball downfield perfectly and Cam acts like that's how everyone plays after a year off and not getting first team reps..LOL.

He ignores the fact that it's obvious Russ spent time working with the receivers and learning the offense well. You can see it when he's changing plays(very often to the better play) You can see it in the confidence the offense has with him in there.

The Seahawks lead the series against the Panthers 11-5-0 with Russ handing many of those L's to Cam including a divisional playoff loss...add to that at 35 Russ is still balling while Cam is the same age and washed...yeah, someone's narcissism and jealousy is on full display.

I'm cautiously optimistic. We've mainly beaten the good teams (ATL, LAC, DEN) though some of the playcalling, particularly on defence drives me crazy. Throughout the NJG game all the way through the first half it was single high man to man. That's very high risk against a WR like Nabers and we got burned by Slayton and STILL couldn't stop Tracy. It improved in the 2nd half but that's not good football. The way the Ravens took apart the Broncos last night was a different level. I know that we know them and typically play them hard but I don't see how we stop that particular juggernaut.
Seven of our remaining games are against genuinely top QBs. We have to find a way to go 3-4 in those games or it's going to be ugly. We'll find a whole lot more about who this team is after the next four weeks.

I'm hopeful about this season but still realistic. Given our recent history any kind of playoff run would be a tremendous feat. No matter what we've improved the offense overall, particularly OL. Moves were made the past 2 off seasons that should have been made years ago. I wish Khan was in charge sooner than he was. Colbert screwed us.

Biggest takeaway from this season - no matter what the outcome we're closer than we have been in years. Khan has to finish the job in the next couple of years as the clock is ticking on our key pieces.

Again my optimism grows. Another game vs a good opponent. Had some real bad calls against us or just missed in the case of a blatant hold on TJ in the end zone. But a throw away from the Jets plays a handful of snaps and grabs the go ahead touchdown. I just watched the pass for the first time since the game and didn’t realize how much pressure Russ was under. Threw a dime in the face of defenders. Then the hard count that almost never works to ice the game.

I’m not saying 💍 but could this be a playoff team that makes some noise? The last two games are games I’m used to us finding ways to lose. Instead we are finding ways to win.

Reasons for optimism after the Washington win are one of Tomlins long term established strengths is success inside the division, it would be massively uncharacteristic for them to do worse than 4-2 in the division and at least split with the Rats. That puts them in the playoffs and hopefully a 6 seed at worst.

Then we will see if Tomlin can get the playoff win drought off his back or not. Tomlin deserves credit for the significant improvements in the offense, attention to detail, and less inconsistent play this season compared to prior years along with being 7-2, but one and done in the playoffs would erase it all imo, these are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the last 10 years of playoff performance unacceptable and primarily on him.

I give Tomlin credit to date for winning the games he hasn’t been able to in the past. I give Khan credit for getting Fields who looked competent at QB and now Russ who looks like a top 10 QB. And for making the moves midseason to get Mike Williams, who was not the guy I wanted but has obviously started off his Steelers career storybooked. Then getting Preston Smith for a song and dance. With Highsmith likely out the rest of November the move to get Smith turned from good to phenomenal.

I’m trying to stay grounded as the higher you get the further you have to fall. But I would be disappointed if, barring significant injury, the Steelers didn’t get the playoff losing drought snapped.
