Cowboys' C.J. Spillman in sex assault inquiry; no arrests, charges in alleged incident at Gaylord Texan

Dallas Cowboys safety and special teams player C.J. Spillman is involved in a sexual assault investigation in Grapevine, police say.

No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, which reportedly occurred at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center.

Police Sgt. Robert Eberling said a report involving Spillman, 28, was filed Sept. 20.

He declined to release further details about the allegations, including how Spillman was allegedly involved or when the incident occurred.

Spillman’s agent and attorney declined to comment.

The Dallas Cowboys could not be reached for comment Wednesday night. The team signed Spillman last month; he had been cut by the San Francisco 49ers in August.

Players who sign with the Cowboys often stay at the Gaylord until they find homes in the Dallas area.

The NFL has faced criticism recently for its handling of players accused of domestic abuse and other violence.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett recently told the team that the club wouldn’t allow players accused of domestic violence to play.

“Part of what our jobs are as coaches is to create the right environment for our players to function both on and off the field,” he said. “So we need to be clear about where we are. We need to be clear that we have a structure in place to help anybody who has any off-the-field issues.”

The team’s zero-tolerance approach to domestic violence follows protests over how the NFL responded to accusations that Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice assaulted his fiancée in an elevator earlier this year.

Which Texan Gaylord did he sexually assault?

The worst part is without an arrest or charges he probably gets cut. They don't say how he is connected in this at all so for all we know he was a witness and did nothing wrong. Punishment without being found guilty the new "improved" America. I guess my family left Europe to get away from this b.s. so now that it is here maybe I will have to do the same for my family.

Might not be anything it could have been with a guy, the women's groups will not be offended, the guy is from San Francisco.

Concur. In the post-Ray Rice environment this couldn't have come at a worse time for this guy. Had this happened pre-Rice he doesn't get cut.

Which brings up this....

If there is no arrest, and no charges....anyone can pretty much accuse anyone and hope to get that player suspended...obviously not in Bens case though.

Does there need to be an arrest or charges for the NFL to act?

The Cowboys said they won't act unless there are charges against him. Pretty bold considering the media hype right now.

"Prior to the upcoming game that will decide the division, a "Miss Hoodie" reportedly
accused Ryan Tannehill of leering looks and improper bump-and-grind."

6 games if he follows what he did to Ben.

The Ben situation just needs to stop being brought up. We are never going to see a punishment like that ever again for someone who merely accused and never charged.

That is the very reason we need to keep bringing it up.

That is the very reason we need to keep bringing it up.

Why? You think bringing up Ben suspension from nearly 6 years ago on a random message board is going to cause any sort of waves, and cause Goodell to say sorry? Seriously what's the reasoning behind it? The media doesn't even care about it, in case you forgot, they ran with the story and pretty much buried Ben before any of the facts came out at all. The proof that we will never see anything like that again was Ray Rice getting an original 2 game suspension. That's all we needed to see. And Bringing up Ben just makes it seem like we are whiney fans of a rival team.

I'm sure that's all Goodell or the media would see even if bringing that situation up did anything. "But, but... But BEN!!"

Have you noticed who's in the White House & who's ruling ???
