I read one of the officers sent the pick of the guy handcuffed and beat up to his girlfriend, who was Nichols ex-girlfriend. So this wasn't a traffic stop gone wrong, it was a calculated beat down , if so the charges should be stiffer.

The rank and file may or may not be "woke", but I bet the brass sure is. (For the most part).. chiefs, commissioners are nothing but politicians in uniform, forgetting where they came from. Gotta look good in front of the camera and avoid a twitter-storm/PR nightmare at any cost.

As for these officers, we have to remember that the "defund the police" movement that swept across this country over the past few years decimated departments as good officers quit, or retired and weren't being replaced. And now that crime waves are hitting most major cities, maybe departments are struggling to hire new officers and their standards have been lowered?? What would've disqualified an applicant in the past may now be overlooked... just to meet hiring quotas. And so you get a pool of highly unfit officers wearing the badge.
