Just weighing in on where the rest of Steeler Nation sits on the coaching decision to punt down 2 scores midway through the 4th quarter on a 4th and short yardage play?

For a coach who professes to not live in his fears it sure as hell seemed he was coaching with the fear of getting blown out rather than coaching to win the game.

LV had been consuming good chunks of clock on most drives with ball control offense.

Steeler Nation, was this a wave the flag and try not to be embarrassed call or did it give us the best chance to win the game by punting?

This is the normal for Tomlin. Remember in the playoff game last year when it was 4th and short from midfield and we were down 10, I believe.
Tomlin chooses to punt it. It's nothing but the usual.

Not to mention, his clock management is just embarrassing. At the end of the first half when Raiders have the ball at the goal line with over a minute left. Tomlin just lets them run the clock out and pockets two timeouts going into half. Easily would have had 50 seconds or so to try to get into FG range. This is a weekly thing coming from him. How ownership does not see these issues is scary or maybe even ignores them which is scarier.

I blocked last years bungle, thanks for the reminder lol...the more I try to get that game out of my mind it just keeps resurfacing.

Those are the moments a good team must be able to get a yard or two imo, yeah the run game looked like garbage for the most part but in my mind these are the small victories we must win to gain some traction...

it seemed like a give up option to me and giving up is one thing I can’t tolerate.

Anyone see the Ravens last night? Hairball asked LJ if he wanted to go for it to seal the game, they got to the line, quickly snapped the ball and converted the 4th and 1. Ball game! I wish our HC had that decision making ability to lay it on the line. Even if they failed, at least try.

Kind of like a turd in water..................................

Best I can come up with considering who played and what happened in that game.

While the Steelers were busy lining up in shotgun throughout training camp, they should've been lining up and practicing short yardage plays for instances like this. All of the talk of running the ball was total BS. They thought drafting Harris was going to be the answer all by itself. Philosophically, this is still a soft offensive line and offense. Zero physical ability to get the tough yards, which they needed in this case. The defense was on its heels and it was necessary for the Steelers to come away with points on that drive. If they do, they only have to stop the Raiders once with a chance to tie. Instead, Tomlin forced the defense to make two stops all while allowing the Raiders to burn another two plus minutes off the clock.

The defense was absolutely gassed at that point. As a head coach, you have to have known that and you go for it on 4th and 1. It doesn't surprise me but it still pisses you off. Not having Tuitt and losing Haden, Bush, Watt and, Alualu really hurt. Oh well, on to those asswipes in Cincinnati.

Wouldn’t you for once like to hear a reporter ask after the game or next day presser “ Hi coach. For a Head Coach who uses the mantra,we do not live in our fears, why do you continually seem to do so?”
Then go on to list example A,then B then C.
Do it very respectfully and wait patiently for the answer.

I agree about a gassed defense.

I have referred to Cincinnati as the Bungles before but asswipes?

If the Stillers don't wake up soon and play smarter, tougher football, the Bengals will takes us to the woodshed just like the Raiders did.

We looked sad against the Raiders.

Cincy is going to come in here hungry and confident.

Not the same old Bungles.

In the past, a humiliating loss would spark the team the next week, with this team I'm not so sure, and hope I'm wrong.

Those that believe Tomlin is an above the line head coach will be laying it on the line on Sunday.

Getting those little ******* stuck in between the teeth the worst. Then you have to deal with the yahoos shorting us with butter. No you stop halfway pour the butter commence then pour on the top again.

Pathetic display. Meanwhile, the Raiders bulldozed their way to 2 first downs on QB sneaks our coaching staff have apparently forgot is still allowed. Maybe the OL can't get the push, but you absolutely go for it with like a 1/2 yard to gain and the way things were going with the Raiders marching up and down the field - and with little time left.

They were at their own 34 with more than enough time. Punting is advised in that situation… not a tomlin guy or a hater… just stating that going for it was the riskier move in that situation … if you fail you instantly put yourself in a situation that gives them a virtual lock on the win…

The “more than enough time” assumes our depleted D can hold them to more than 1 first down on their two possessions.

To me, if getting a yard is less probable than back to back 3 and outs (or no more than 1 First down on 2 possessions) for a depleted D then that is a helluva indictment on the entire offensive staff and HC.

They pretty well had a virtual "lock" on the win as is. The game of football is a risk taking game, many (including 50%+ players) saw that as a conceed action. If you get the first down complete momentum changes but in this case from the punt on, the players played but with very little emotion needed.
