Dammmmmnnnnnn...Miami fans are chirping online. Reminds me of Vols fans last year. I don't think they are aware of the storm that's coming.
I think Ohio State is going to destroy Miami. BUT I think OSU may have a slow start. I remember last year every bye team lost because they started off sluggish after a long layoff.
Days idle
Ohio State 25
Texas Tech 26
Indiana 26
Georgia 26
That's a long time to sit idle, then travel to an away game.
They're not sitting idle, they're game-planning and practicing. Back in the BCS days, teams would finish the Saturday after Thanksgiving and play the Monday after New Years.
They're also getting healthy. Smith and Tate were reportedly not close to 100% but suited up v. Mich and IU. Now they're 100%.
But with the bowls, BOTH teams were idle for that long. Now you have 1 team idle for almost a month and the opponent is coming off a playoff win. If you watched the playoffs last year, this was noticeable on the field as each bye team looked awful in the first half.
Here are the first quarter and halftime scores of last year's round 2 games. The Bye team is the second team struggling early.
Penn State 14 Boise St 0 17-7
Ohio State 14 Oregon 0 34-8
Texas 14 Arizona State 3 17-3
Notre Dame 0 Georgia 0 13-3
Maybe the Bye teams saw this trend and have done more full contact to try to compensate, but the sluggish early play was very noticeable last year.
There's a reason why NFL teams who clinch a playoff early may rest players in the last week but they don't rest them for multiple weeks.
Good points, Tape! These byes aren't a week off. It's nearly a month without real football and you're correct, teams must prepare differently. They're also heading into a neutral environment where it's possible for the "away" team to have more fans and essentially "homefield advantage."
I can tell you what happens DJ…Ole Miss taking LSU down.
2 mins left, Ole Miss with the ball and up by 5 points. LSU needs a miracle.
I can't stand the new stuff. I swear, laughing at my dad now looks stupid. I can't look at the technology and figure what is live and what isn't. Crazy.I can tell you what happens DJ…
Being they didn’t play that game on Christmas Day, there will be no miracle
I hear ya brother!I can't stand the new stuff. I swear, laughing at my dad now looks stupid. I can't look at the technology and figure what is live and what isn't. Crazy.
I'm watching the Broncos at home against KC. If it's not live, don't tell me. I'm enjoying it.
I wasn’t isolating Miami-Ohio State. In fact I think your point supports what I was getting at. If Miami had the bye, they’d have a distinct crowd disadvantage playing at a neutral site.Miami fans can't fill the Orange Bowl, would be surprised if the crowd is less than 80% Scarlet and Gray.

Which is why they would be at a disadvantage at a neutral site as the "home" team.I don't think so, they can't fill Hard Rock for their home games.

So you're alluding that practice and walk thrus equate to game day play??? BWAHAHAHA.They're not sitting idle, they're game-planning and practicing. Back in the BCS days, teams would finish the Saturday after Thanksgiving and play the Monday after New Years.

Yes, they're getting healthy but I have seen this movie a lot. Bama lost twice to Clemson same scenario. Slow starts are guaranteed when the team has been off for a month...
