College football is expanding playoffs to 12 teams

The nfl is a different beast. If you win all of the games in your division, you don’t automatically win your division… this is more like the NFC sending two teams to the super bowl… No single conference should ever have two teams playing for the national championship its just stupid
The NFL playoff structure is terribly flawed. A 3-14 team could, technically, make the playoffs. While that’s very improbable, a 6-11 division champion might eventually make the playoffs.

As I already explained, a playoff system is different than a solitary game to simply declare a conference winner. And you're not going to convince me that teams like Georgia or Alabama shouldn't be in the tournament which decides the national championship, just because some other team is a "champion" of a shittier conference.

8 probably was enough, but I don't have a problem with 12, either. 4 teams was not adequate.
We can definitely agree that 4 wasn’t enough for sure

Another thought on this is the timing. I really hope these games take place in December and wrap up before the NFL playoffs. I love college football, but I don’t want to be watching it in late January.

As early as 24 but no later than 26

Top four conference winners get a bye…
Next 8 play in the second or 3rd week of December…

So the format will be 4 4 2 1…

I was a fan of 6 or 8 teams… 12 seems a big large

BUY. Putting the 12 best teams in will make it more exciting, help define the champion, and give those teams not in a power five conference a chance with a 1 or 0 loss season to play for a championship. I will also increase the revenue amount. Being in the final four will mean more than it does now. Now if college football can change the he has to be tackled to be down rule it will be even better.

Anything over 8 is pure cash grab, but come to expect that sort of thing, it is what it is.

So first round you’ll get those tasty GA 49 OR 3 type of games giving a further edge to Bama as they sit and wait…brilliant!!!!

I think the opposite should happen. The top 4 teams get a by so you have seeds 5-12 playing, which should result in some pretty good matchups.

Here's a breakdown of what the past eight seasons would've looked like: https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...ld-have-looked-in-each-of-last-eight-seasons/

Those matchups highlight my point
A lot of garbage early round games weakening the 5-6 seeds as the “top 4” get auto byes

The SEC should get a minimum of a bye in the east and west under a bye system as generally the 2nd and 3rd SEC teams overall are top 5teams

The conference winner bye along with 12 teams just looks like crappy football to me

Hardly ever more than 8 worthy teams, and generally at least 3-4 of the too 8 are SEC

No way should Clemson in a weak ACC get an auto bye every year.

I’d stick with 8, but we all know the cash grab will happen…no way do they pass up all that money in the name of a better product

Garbage matchups or great matchups, you take around 10% of all of FBS making the playoffs over the past eight years to somewhere between 30-40%. Bama is basically a lock every year. Georgia looks like they've reached that level. As long as Ohio State doesn't screw up, they're a lock as well. Just not many opportunities for other teams.

Clemson has made 6 of 8 playoffs and are 4-2 in semifinal games with an average margin of victory of 21 points in those wins. They are absolutely deserving of a bye if they win the ACC with a 0 or 1 loss record.

Will never be in favor of issuing teams permanent byes based on past history

And NCAA Div 1 Football finally has a legit playoff with the consensus top 10 playing in it!

12 is the max number. People love the basketball tournament, but having so many teams crushed the regular season. Nobody watches. It's exciting for a few bubble teams but for the top teams the regular season just means finding out if they're a 1 or a 2 seed.

The bye week for the top 4 teams is essential. Without that, the top ranked teams would have nothing to play for. They'd just coast.

You have to also remember that the power brokers putting this together are expecting that in the near future there will probably just be 2 or 3 conferences.

4 was not enough with the NIL transfer portal bama Texas, A &M Bama and probaly soon SMU going back to slush fund days can just buy kids.
With a expanded it gives about everyone a fair shot teams that rely on tradition and hard recruiting like Notre Dame Michigan, Clemson, Georgia a good chance to recruit without having to pay kids.
I hope
jim stays at UM hes done a great job recruiting just hope JJ starts not impressed with Cade mcnarma he looks like a raw version of Jimmy G decent size and mobility and accuracy but does nothing to wow you, JJ has a good arm mobility like like Hurts, Tua the team is deep at at WR and TE and should open up the hopefully they let JJ do that vs Hawaii give him a real chance to put 30 by half time

And this is the real problem with D1 college football, it’s dominated by a handful of teams. I’m not crazy about the NIL deals, but if it helps to blow up the domination, so be it.

That may happen but at the same time with the transfer policy the middle ground teams will be feeder programs for upper teams and the lower teams for the middle teams.
