Could be some interesting games this week, but there is not a single matchup of 2 ranked teams. But this is mitigated by the much anticipated return of Penn State after their bye.
Illinois at 7 Penn State 12:00 ABC PSU -24 O/U 45.5
when last we saw PSU, they were cruising to victory at Iowa, then their QB got hurt and the backup Ta'Quan Roberson was horrible. He couldn't even get the snap off in time. As a result he split reps in practice this week with 3rd string Freshman Christian Veilleux. It may be a quick hook for Roberson if he struggles.
But the big surprise was the Sean Clifford also took reps throwing in practice this week. Will he play? Seems unlikely but maybe it means he's back for Ohio State next week.
In other Penn State QB news, 2022 Penn State Committ Drew Allar from Medina OH is now a 5 star rating and the #1 QB in the country accourding to 247 Sports.
Looks like Penn State will be good to go with a little Funky Cold Medina
As for the game, Illinois sucks and their coach Brett Bielema threw his own team under the bus this week by saying he didn't have the players needed tio win games. I'm sure they'll play hard for such a great guy. With Penn State's backup QB looking so bad, the 24 point line either means Vegas think he will have a bounce back performance or that they think Illinois may not score at all. Which is possible.
Northwestern at 6 Michigan 12:00 Fox Mich -23.5 O/U 51
another weak opponent that Michigan should be able to bully so yet another week of not knowing if Michigan is for real. Their QB had fewer than 10 completions in 4 of 6 games. We still don't know if Michigan can pass and their defense hasn't faced a good offense yet. They get Michigan State next week
10 Oregon at UCLA 3:30 ABC UCLA -1 O/U 60.5
Should the #10 team be an underdog to an unranked team? I'd say that's a pretty big indicator of how stupid polls can be. Will all the pollsters who have Oregon 10 and UCLA unranked win millions betting on Oregon this week? They shoud right since they think Oregon is far superior. Chip Kelly slowly building up UCLA.
LSU at 12 Ole Miss 3:30 CBS Miss -7.5 O/U 76.5
The big question is who will be the next coah at LSU. Who wouldn't jump at the chance to work at a place where you are fired midseason just a season and a half removed from a national championship. Yep, that's a GREAT job! Lane Kiffin's name has been mentioned. He's just the type of douchebag to jump ship from Miss.
Clemson at 23 Pitt 3:30 ESPN Pitt -3.5 O/U 47.5
The fall of Clemson is almost inexplicable. They are loaded with talent. Not only have they lost 2 games, they are playing bad too. Clemson is 114th in scoring offense. They manage 17 last week vs Syracuse. Let that sink in. But Clemson's defense is still good. They held Georgia to 10 points. Pitt is averaging 48 per game. This will be a big test for Kenny Pickett. If he puts up a big game vs this defense, his draft stock will go way up.
Tennessee at 4 Alabama 7:00 ESPN Alabama -25 O/U 68
the game is in Alabama so the weather report says there's a low chance of raining golf balls.
USC at 13 Notre Dame 7:30 NBC ND -7 O/U 59
with USC falling apart, this isn't the great matchup it seemed a few months ago. Notre Dame lost a ton of guys and have struggled at times breaking in new players, particularly on the OL. Coming off a Bye, maybe it starts to come together this week. Brian Kelly looks like a walking ad for blood pressure meds but he's a good coach. It would be interesting if USC went after him.
