49ers got 7 picks because they not only hire minority assistants but they are successful enough to be desired by other teams. The Steelers will have one of what two black coaches who will be in the HOF and helped resurrect a minority coaches career after he launched a lawsuit against his employer and got zip. Three 49ers basically got McCaffery for free.

That coach is setting a dubious record for 6 seasons in a row with no playoff wins. As best Tomlin will need seven seasons. Has any good coach done that? Ever? Usually they are fired before that time. We pissed away our 5th and 6th round draft picks in 2023 for what? You tell me! IMO, Tomlin is a boat anchor around the Steelers neck. Our beloved team is in the worst shape it has been in the past 20 years.

I just read an article about some statements made by owners. Unfortunately, it quite frankly reveals they are much more interested in the money than they are in winning (we all knew that already). The Rooney's unfortunately fall in this category now. Maybe when Art 2 moves into the afterlife and his son takes over the team, things will change. He seems to value winning from some statements he has made and I'm convinced that he doesn't share his father's handling of the team!

Yeah that is ridiculous… no team should ever get more than 4 comp picks… it was supposed to be capped but tge coach thing is screwing the already screwed up system even more

The rules are just **** for minority coaches.

No one was giving Flores a contract last year except us, because of Tomlin.

He leaves for a promotion and we don't get picks.

Don't hate the coach or team, hate the rules as written, and as soon as they put a draft value on those rules, I knew it would stir up inequity of draft picks in the league.

Q. Is it because he has already been an HC and there isn't a second bite from that apple?

No. The coach has to be on the team for at least two years

Ultimately teams are gonna start devaluing hiring guys that give a team a competitive advantage… the nfl is full of shortsighted corporate dimwit types… they can’t understand long term consequences… which is why so many of their policies and rules ultimately do the opposite of what they want

So what if the guy looks like a star his first year with the team and looks like star and gets upward movement. That is stupid.

It is a stupid rule. The Rooney rule is a stupid rule. It's not about hiring the best coach for the job now it is about hiring someone based on skin pigment.

The Rooney rule doesn't require hiring anybody for anything. I am against quotas as much as anyone but I have absolutely no problem with a rule requiring interviewing minority candidates.

Exactly. The only thing wrong with it was assigning draft picks.

This also creates situations where our team will not hire a minority coach or front office from a division rival and would have to think about grabbing one from anyone else in the AFC. That isn't fair either.

You definitely are not against quotas as much as anyone. So there hasn't been any issues or backlash on the Rooney rule since inception? (cough*Flores*cough) Do you think the Rooney rule was just a stepping stone to the incentive rule to hire black coaches?

I really don't care about what color a coach or person is, but I would be lying if these rules don't under mind the completeness of deserving minority coaches.

I am totally against quotas. You obviously don't spend much time in the politics forum. I will refrain from saying anything else in regards to my feelings about your take on this subject and other similar subjects as I respect your pure football opinions.

They should differentiate between these and comp picks. Comp picks compensate for losses in player personnel. They should call these virtue signaling picks.

Personally, I like "Angst Picks". Or, "Backlash Picks" ... "Cry Me A River Picks"?
