Suspect, 2 Victims Dead After Stabbings In Taunton
TAUNTON (CBS) – An off-duty officer shot and killed a suspect who allegedly stabbed two people at a shopping mall and two others at a home in Taunton Tuesday night. Two of the victims did not survive.
Officers responded to the Silver City Galleria shopping mall just before 7:00 p.m. after the suspect crashed into the front a Macy’s store.
Police say two people were stabbed at the mall after the black Honda Accord crashed through the doors of the store. Two other victims were stabbed at a home on Myricks Street.
It is unclear if the victims who died were stabbed at the mall or at the Myricks Street home.
The suspect may have also been involved in a crash on Myricks Street.
One of the victims was a pregnant woman, a witness told WBZ.
The unidentified suspect was shot and killed by an off-duty Plymouth County sheriff’s deputy at the mall.
According to State Police, there is no threat to the public. “The suspect’s motive remains under investigation but at this point we are aware of no nexus to terrorism,” State Police said.
A witness said shots were fired inside a Bertucci’s restaurant inside the mall.
Another witness said, “I heard shots and saw cops loading AR-15s and I ran for my life.”
The mall was evacuated after the incident.
The identities of the victims and suspect have not been released.
