Since 2022
Kupp 152 catches 1,696 yards played 23 of 41 games.
Thielen 181 catches 1,839 yards played 37 of 41 games (and counting).
Things to consider.
Kupp has a future hall of fame QB throwing him the ball along with one of the best coaches in football.
Thielen had young a rookie now benched qb and his last year in Minnesota was the third option behind Jefferson and Hockenson.
Next thing you have to consider is salary and draft capital.
Kupp is due about 20m each of the next two seasons. Not sure he’s a 20m WR anymore. And the Rams likely want a day two pick for him.
Thielen is due with all his roster and workout bonuses about 6.75m. Not too hard of a number to fit under the cap if he shows he’s still worth it. Panthers likely would trade him for about anything now. I would say a 7th and probably a conditional 7th gets him.
Age is a factor. But I think Kupp’s injury history the last three years vs Thielsens says that Kupp is likely a riskier option.
Then you have to look at what this team needs. A true #2 would be great. Aiyuk or Sutton would be ideal. But we really just need a possession and rotational player. A guy who will move the chains and be consistent. Pickens is our stud. He’s our number 1. We really just need a guy to move the chains. Jefferson can block, and CA3 can be our speedster. So we really just need a guy who can run a cross and zig route well. And a guy with good hands. Thielen can do all that. A 7th round guy probably can’t. But a 2nd or 3rd round wr probably can. So I would rather keep my day two picks and draft Tre Harris Tory Horton.
