Covid Vaccine

We'll never know. My kids are 23 and 20 now, and make their own decisions. But, I'm a man of strong conviction and faith, and i truly believe that had my children been diagnosed with a disease that Gene Therapy would help in some way, I would not have elected to do so. God made us who we are and we all serve a purpose.
Yeah well our close friend's son is 20 and has spent his entire life taking mountains of pills every so he can digest food, doing chest physiotherapy numerous times a day, and going in for lengthy hospital stays to clear his lungs and body of infection, and wondering if this is the one he won't bounce back from. He's an amazing young man and I think God wants him in the world. We pray every day that they are able to find a therapy for his specific gene mutation as they have for many other CF patients who can now, thanks to these therapies, live virtually normal lives.

These therapies are miracles from God and from the abilities he gave us to learn and heal and cure.

Update. My sister is doing much better as long as she is on steroids. She will have to take them for sometime between 6 months and 5 years. They just don't know yet. Doctors are certain it was a reaction from the vaccine.
I'm glad she's doing better Ron. I'm so sorry this has happened to her. That is very concerning.

just to be devil's advocate (for lack of better word/term)...

what if your child's purpose was to help advance medicine and medical knowledge of a condition by going through gene therapy? there's also a school of thought that if we were not to be able to do this, then we'd not have the tools and knowledge at our grasp and availability.

I get it, It's not an easy subject to deliver to a definitive answer. You and OFTB make a good argument and perhaps you're right. All I can do is pray on that which I do not know and make the best decisions that I can.

OFTB, I hope that you're friend's Son finds a better quality of life soon.

Yeah it is. Depending on the steroid she's taking, there are some major long-term side effects that can come with that.

Yep. Hopefully she won't have to take them too long.

I'm not diminishing or dismissing Ron's sister's experience at all. There is no doubt that rare serious adverse reactions to vaccines exist, as do serious adverse reactions to all medications and serious adverse reactions to getting infectious diseases like covid-19. Medicine is always a matter of balancing risk vs. benefit.

Well-said. I agree completely with what OFTB is saying here. First off, medical advances that help us live better, longer, more productive lives are a blessing. God gives us the tools to be loving or evil; we need to follow the path that leads us to living as God wants. God also gives us the intellectual tools to be evil, to design devices to hurt or kill; he also gives us the intellect to design medicines and devices that extend life, ease pain, end suffering. Once again, it is a matter of choosing the right path.

As to the vaccine's potential side effects - OFTB is spot on again that taking the medicine involves balancing risk vs. benefit. Fortunately for this vaccine, as is the case with basically all vaccines, the risk is quite low and the benefits enormous.

However, the directive by Fauci and his ilk that those who have had the virus and recovered makes NO SENSE. Recovering from the virus gives us the antibodies that replicate the vaccine.

Why take the vaccine with its potential side effects, no matter how low the probability, when the vaccine gives zero benefit? None. The body's natural response produced antibodies that did the same damn thing. And confusing, contradictory instructions like that have given a lot of people pause about what is really going on with the vaccine.

Which vaccine did she get?

Bingo. This is going to sound sideways and a bit like crazy talk...but now that both of my sons and wife have had it..............

I'm glad. They are "vaccinated" and don't need to take any of these experimental, non-FDA-approved vaccines.

What bothers me is with all of this growing talk of vaccine papers....will they be forced to, given they have natural antibodies? Why should people who have had the virus need to get vaccinated?

Why should people who have had the virus need to get vaccinated?

They don't. The health officials saying otherwise have yet to proffer a credible, reasonable explanation.

"Oh, you can still get the virus." They once said the same thing about wearing a mask after getting the vaccine and turns out, they lied. Flat-out lied to us. No, once you get the vaccine, the chances of getting the virus are less than getting hit by lightning while dancing at a wedding paid for by an Ogre. I am pissed that you and I don't get to put that theory to a test, simply because Ogres are so freaking cheap.

Yep. Hopefully she won't have to take them too long.
She was much improved after just a week on steroids so I'm hoping she comes in on the short end of the estimate.

Yeah not gonna get vaccinated here if I don’t have to
It's a tough choice. Should you let your body fight off:

A) a Chinese manufactured virus
B) an American made antigen that was developed in a few months

Is there an option C? I sure as hell hope so.

Most of my family got the pfizer and experienced no effects.
I’m still wary myself

If I was to get one, I'd get the pfizer. I'm waiting for my doctor's office to offer it. I do not want to go to some innoculation tent in a shopping mall parking lot and get whatever they have on the shelf. **** that bullshit.

I got the Moderna.
Wife got the Pfizer.

Neither had any after effects. Everyone I know who had effects were fine after a day or two.
Odd how they effect different people.

I haven't seen any real data that shows vaccines give you better immunity than the infection, and I have looked for it. I got the vaccine because I know life won't go back to normal unless a lot of people do, and because I want to be able to do things vaccinated people will be able to do. My kids got it because it means they don't have to do weekly testing and quarantine every time they are a close contact of a positive case at their colleges. (One of their colleges, University of Delaware, is requiring it.)

Is that fair and following the science? Probably not. I agree they should be considering people confirmed positive in the past as vaccinated at this point. But they aren't and it is what it is. I also figure if anything it's an extra layer of protection and at very low risk. I got it 4 months after getting covid so at a minimum if it turns out immunity wanes from either I've got more time.

Something that does piss me off tremendously is that Delaware is requiring all students to be vaccinated but is not requiring professors to be and is STILL giving professors the option of doing online or hybrid classes. And a lot of them are taking them up on it. Which this past year has been basically the students teaching the material to themselves. That's bullshit. I would pull her out if she wasn't already 3 years in.

I had my second Moderna a week ago today. My son had his on the same day. I felt like **** the next morning, chills, achy and very tired all day. He had a fever of 101.6 and slept most of the day after. Second day we both woke up feeling perfectly normal. Very weird.

I'm scheduled for my second Pfizer shot today.

Went to my doc yesterday and requested a muscle relaxer in case my back pain comes back after this second shot. Doing everything I can to prep for it. Considered taking Friday off and staying as active as possible, but then figure i'd just **** something up. So I may just go about as normal of a day as possible. Totally not looking forward to this - not stressing out about it, as it's either going to happen or it isn't, but can't believe we are where we are because of a ******* Chinese virus. again.

Good luck! I know people who had a sore arm and nothing else or even nothing at all. Hopefully you'll be one of them.

Because the vaccine is a better bet at immunity. They don’t know how long natural antibodies last or if it’s consistent from person to person. Getting the vaccine has also shown to help Covid long haulers finally recover from their symptoms.

Ogre used to be a long-hauler. It's local now.

Both doses I got were Pfizer, and I didn't have as much as an injection site pain, nada, nothing.
