It may be something of a surprise to see Bill Cowher rumors attached to the Buffalo Bills when the former Steelers coach already passed over other, more high-profile jobs in the past few years. But sources say Cowher is willing to return if the right opportunity presents itself, and if Pegula is willing to open up the checkbook, then that could put Buffalo at the top of the list.

Would be weird to see him coaching the Bills.

He's been away from the sidelines for a while also.

I would have never guessed Buffalo would be a team he would come out of the booth for. They resemble the Steelers on some fronts. Good sized market, loyal fan base, proud history and a no-frills city. Would be interesting, to say the least.

I have thought for years that Cowher was waiting for the giants job. This seemed like Coughlin's last year but the giants are sticking with him and with the emergence of Beckham, the return of Cruz and a good off-season, the giants are contenders again. So Coughlin may not be going anywhere for 5 years.

If that's how Cowher sees it then he may think this is his best shot to get back in the game.

Buffalo is a good job. You just have to find a QB. And until you find that QB, they are good enough to win games with a journeyman like Orton.

Atlanta just needs a defense but no way Cowher goes there with supposed wonder boy Dimitrof as GM. Cowher's not going anywhere he doesn't call the shots.

Jets. They should go after cowher hard. Doug Marrone? Why bother firing Rex to hire a less talented defensive coach?

Chicago. They would love cowher in Chicago. Cut Jay Cutler, improve the defense and they can be contenders.

I could see the Jets, if he was GM/HC. Chicago would certainly make sense and he would be a real good fit there. If it got out that he was thinking about coaching again, he could practically name his price. Buffalo is willing to open their wallets to sign him, too.

I'd be surprised with the Bills or the Jets. Yes the Bills have a good amount of talent, but without a quarterback in place and no first round pick, it'd be a heck of a steal for the owner to convince Cowher to come back. I don't even see what's appealing about the Jets for any proven coach to go there.

The Falcons and Bears would seem to be more preferable due the QB positions, but both teams are total dumpster fires defensively.

Given how partial he is toward defense, Cowher's head would probably explode having to endure that level of poor play in the early stages of rebuilding that side of the ball.

The Bills are pretty much there defensively and have a good OL. Considering how Cowher preferred to build his teams in Pittsburgh, I can see the appeal, if it actually does exist,

Don't see it....

Personally, I don't think he wants to coach. I can see him as a GM, and perhaps that is why he made the visit?

I've felt all along that he'll coach again. And he seems kind of detached - well, if that's possible for him - on the CBS show.

With Marino and Sharpe gone, the show's just sort of lifeless. And he looks doubly bored on the Thursday night telecasts. If he's going to schlep around the country, might as well do it as a coach or GM, or whatever.

I'm surprised the Jets don't make an all-out push to get him. He and the Queen could keep their posh pad.

I hope he does go to Buffalo..but I doubt it ...

It would give those poor people something to feel good about..

Ever been to Buffalo? Pitiful and depressing place...

Interesting prospect to think the chin might be back in coaching. I wonder if it also could have something to do with his sports gig. His employer could have put in a call to interview and they said sure I'll talk to Bill Cowher in person.

If we build it, he will come............... Kinda :)

If Bill comes out to coach, then more power to him. It'll take a season, maybe two, for him to be fully back. If in that time he realizes his heart ian't into it, he will quit. The Bills may be just thaty organization to try his experiemnt, true test to see. Good luck to him and whoever sogns him, if thaty is the case.

Salute the nation

Vermeil was away twice as long, then won a SB.

The only difference I could see in their situations is that Vermeil fell short of a SB championship when he left the Eagles. I think that added to his desire to return to coaching after so long. Since Cowher has one already, would he be as driven?

I've always felt Cowher would make a great GM here with the Steelers to replace Colbert. The guy does know how to evaluate talent.

the same guy that wanted to pass on Big Ben and had to be told by the Rooneys to draft him?

I've actually been secretly holding out hope that he was waiting for Colbert to leave to come back as our GM

The Ben issue Spike mentioned aside, we drafted very well with Coach Caaaaher

Cowher is not a GM - he's a coach

I bet what you really want is another Paul Brown from the 1950s - both head coach and general manager

That's correct Spikey! Everyone makes mistakes. Cowher wanted I believe Shawn Andrews a highly rated OL but as we all know, Dan overruled him. Wish the same thing would have happened in 1983 when the Emperor took Senior Sack and could have taken uh some guy named Dan Marino. They all make mistakes, even the great ones.
