Cowher sighting in Buffalo

Cowher is not a GM - he's a coach

I bet what you really want is another Paul Brown from the 1950s - both head coach and general manager

Cowher was a damn good coach here and I firmly believe he was more instrumental in the players we drafted and signed as F/A's but Colbert got most of the credit. Doesn't seem nearly as successful Kevin Colbert working with Captain Cool Shades as when Bill was here.

the same guy that wanted to pass on Big Ben and had to be told by the Rooneys to draft him?

That seems to be as much urban legend as fact, based on what I've gathered.

I've always felt Cowher would make a great GM here with the Steelers to replace Colbert. The guy does know how to evaluate talent.

Cowher will never return to the organization in any capacity as long as ArtII has a say in things.

I have thought for years that Cowher was waiting for the giants job. This seemed like Coughlin's last year but the giants are sticking with him and with the emergence of Beckham, the return of Cruz and a good off-season, the giants are contenders again. So Coughlin may not be going anywhere for 5 years.

If that's how Cowher sees it then he may think this is his best shot to get back in the game.

Buffalo is a good job. You just have to find a QB. And until you find that QB, they are good enough to win games with a journeyman like Orton.

Atlanta just needs a defense but no way Cowher goes there with supposed wonder boy Dimitrof as GM. Cowher's not going anywhere he doesn't call the shots.

Jets. They should go after cowher hard. Doug Marrone? Why bother firing Rex to hire a less talented defensive coach?

Chicago. They would love cowher in Chicago. Cut Jay Cutler, improve the defense and they can be contenders.

Tape, I agree with your thinking of the Giants that is what I have thought for years too. I still think it can happen cause if the Giants are successful maybe Coughlin will finally step down and there you go Cowher has a place...you never know. I listen to sirius radio and PK says all the time he and Cowher are close and Bill don't want to coach anymore he is happy with what he is doing. Not sure how true that all is but just what I hear on the radio. I do feel Chicago is screaming for a guy like Cowher, a real nice fit if he could dump Cutler.....

I hope he does go to Buffalo..but I doubt it ...

It would give those poor people something to feel good about..

Ever been to Buffalo? Pitiful and depressing place...

There fans were cocky ******** during the 90's but maybe that's cause I am a Steeler fan living in NY........lol! Funny haven't heard much from them in awhile!!!!!

no, the urban legend part is Cowher wanted Rivers over Big Ben

“We felt if Ben would drop to No. 11, we’re not up here every year in the draft, and a quality player like that is hard to pass up. He’s right there with Eli and Philip" - - – Former Steelers Coach Bill Cowher, on selecting Ben over a running back, April 24, 2004.

Buffalo isn't all bad. Niagara Falls and Toronto are close enough too.

So all of a sudden he's a crap GM prospect becuase of an individual player he wanted over another individual player, in one draft?

Time for bed, Spike

Cowher has coached winning teams with less than stellar quarterbacks. He's typically hired the correct OC to help a less than elite quarterback along.

Well he was not able to get to the big game with kordell and o dumbel was a fiasco. The best move was one credited to others was getting big Ben. That said I liked him a lot as a coach.

True, but he won a lot of games with guys named Kordell, O'Donnell, Tomczak, Brister, Kent someone or other, Miller, etc. The Bills haven't won anything consistently in decades, I think just winning and being in the hunt would be a positive step for the organization, fans and players.

I agree with what you said, the only knock was getting to the big game with those guys. Depending on who is available in the top 10 to 15 picks they may have a chance at someone in the next season or two. If not he will surely get a more competitive team on the field.

Yea and here's the thing about drafting a quarterback. You might be better off in the 3rd or 4th round and finding a guy that wants to be a "quarterback" and not a read option guy. Most of the highly touted quarterbacks recently are these read option guys and that style of play is being defended by defenses now, Kaepernick, Manziel, Newton, Dalton (all of a sudden), Wilson (when the defense was struggling early he couldn't carry the team), EJ Manuel. I don't think Mariotta's and Winston's styles are going to translate in the NFL, they're more of the same as above.

Find a guy that wants to win from the pocket, move when necessary and make a few plays with his feet and I think you'll be better off in the long run. It may take 3 or 4 years to get him up to NFL speed and caliber, but you still win n the NFL with the classic quarterback with a knack for escaping, but not wanting to run until necessary.

I know Wilson has won the SB, but like Ben in 2005, it was the defense that lead the team and made his job easier.

Look at this year's playoffs almost exclusively classic style quarterbacks, some with ability to make plays with their feet (Ben, Rodgers, Flacco), but all classic style quarterbacks. You have Newton, Wilson and maybe Dalton as the read option guys, Dalton and Newton aren't winning the SB, Wilson could do it again, but more than likely on the strength of the defense.

I think Cowher can build the defense and find a Kordell, O'Donnell, Tomczak type to manage the game.

The other thing that might be worth while is retraining those guys to play a better game. I don't think it would be easy and in some cases they might not have what is needed between the ears to do it, Manzel for example. But with the athletic ability they bring it would make for a nice player if they could pull it off.

Those guys biggest problem is that they know they're good athletes and as such (IMO) are quick to use that ability rather than "quarterbacking" ability. I think Wilson and Dalton for the most part will get it and be good classic style QBs that use their athletic ability to move around and look down field and only take off running when necessary. The others I'm not sure about, Newton has been around for awhile and still likes to get out and run, Kaepernick, man he's a good athlete with a big arm, but is inaccurate, Manuael and Manziel (IMO) will be good backups to have on your team in a few years. Manziel has a chance, he's young, but man he looked completely lost out there at the end of the year.

Agree. America's Siberia.

Buffalo, Cleveland and Detroit all ring around Lake Erie, and clearly are the armpits of America. There is even an extra one, because the best they can hope for is more body odor.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Cowher in the AFC East. Marsha is near done; not a bad place to rebuild for a couple seasons and then roll on for a few years....

Um Detroit actually borders on the Detroit River and you're technically correct, Lake Erie is down river but the "closest" lake would be Lake St. Clair.
I used to work in Detroit in the mid '70's and it was a happening place. These days it looks like an abandoned town in a war zone. I don't think Detroit even employs enough city workers to plow the roads or make repairs to water main breaks. This winter is going to be a ***** for folks still living and working there.

used to visit or go through Detroit frequently when I lived in NorthCentral Ohio....

It always reminded me of Gotham City.
