The biggest misconception I see constantly on this board and elsewhere, is the complete misunderstanding and confusion of the terms 'Socialism' and 'Democratic Socialism'. Look it up, these are fundamentally different things. Outside of a few fringe groups, nobody's talking about wanting socialism in the US. Bernie and others support and call for democratic socialism, which functions entirely within a capitalist, free market economic system. It's simply a fairer, more broad-based use of tax-payers' money, with a focus on education, health care, social services, etc. Yes, this means less money for tax breaks for corporations & the filthy rich and less money for military. Think FDR and the New Deal. It's simply a different approach to how the government spends its money, a different way to slice the federal spending pie. But it is neither socialism, nor communism or anything close to it. To have an adult conversation about these issues, it would help tremendously if people understood these basic principles. Until then, these discussions are wildly off base and frankly meaningless.

China has long claimed the title democratic socialists... they formed it in 56 ... for purely propaganda reasons... the democratic socialists reframe socialists idealolgy in terms and concepts that try to steer people fron the communist fundamentals its based on... it is intentionally confused with social democracies... which is incorporating some minor socialists points in areas where capitalism really doesn’t work well... most of bernies speal is communist, but he loves to refer to social democracies while pushing for a more unrealistic plan....

We have equal opportunity in this country. What we don't have is equal participation and effort. And no socialist policies have not been adopted "successfully" in a number of countries. What has happened is socialist policies are bankrupting countries where they are implemented. More socialism will just speed the problem up.

Those who claim that "Democratic socialism" would keep capitalism and market forces in place simply don't know the basics. By that I mean they don't know the starting point for socialism, which is the public (government) ownership of ALL means of production, including land, machinery, transportation and raw materials.

That is why confiscating oil wells and trucks and factories is what socialists do. Always have, always will.

The idea that some fictional horde of ultra-rich can be taxed to pay for the socialists wish list - free college, free health care, free babysitting, free everything - is idiocy of the highest order. Stupidity. A doltishness that simply ignores reality and human history. No, the "ultra-rich" - the 1% who already pay about 40% of the nation's income tax - cannot be taxed to pay for idiot socialist's "goody" list. They literally do not have enough collective wealth, including real property and retirement accounts by the way, to pay for the trillions upon trillions of dollars needed for the imagined giveaways.

To repeat, for socialists like Bernie and Hyphen, the government would have to steal every nickel owned by the top 1%, and I am including their homes and retirement accounts and savings and income, all of it, and would still be short by trillions of dollars for the giveaways.

Finally, does anybody else find it ironic that morons like Bernie and Hyphen talk about how America is the richest nation in the history of the universe, but we need to share the wealth.

Uhhhhh, we became the richest nation in the history of the universe by rewarding WORK, not for being lifelong students or graffiti artists or the myriad of other useless **** that socialists worship.
