From a Fox alert that I just got:

President Obama is expected to announce changes in US-Cuba relations -- including opening an embassy in Havana and calling on Congress to lift the embargo -- following the release of American Alan Gross from 5 years of captivity in Cuba, sources tell Fox News. Watch Obama's announcement live at Noon ET on Fox News and FoxNews.com.

As soon as the airlines put out the schedules I'm booking it!

Yinz Yankees need to stay the **** out of Cuba.

Cuba is for Canadians!

Besides the cigars, supposedly Cuba has the prettiest hookers.
Cigar Afficianado magazine says that good restaurants and decent food are pretty hard to find though.

I'm going to jump at the first opportunity to visit a ****** up 3rd world country. Yeah, that's the ticket. Pass.

Open up the ports and air terminals...we need more Cuban immigrants, I mean Democratic voters!

Pope Francis strikes again!

In a deal negotiated during 18 months of secret talks hosted largely by Canada and encouraged by Pope Francis, who hosted a final meeting at the Vatican, President Obama and President Raúl Castro of Cuba agreed in a telephone call to put aside decades of hostility to find a new relationship between the United States and the island nation just 90 minutes off the American coast.

More from Buzzfeed:

Francis played a big role in bringing the longtime rivals to the negotiating table, the official said. Francis sent what was characterized as an extraordinary personal letter to Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro over the summer, urging both parties to end their frosty relationship. Following the letter, and the negotiations, Obama and Castro had a phone conversation that helped lead to Wednesday’s announcement. The letter “gave us greater impetus and momentum for us to move forward,” the administration official said. The Vatican was the only government that participated in the negotiations between the U.S. and Cuba. Vatican officials were “in those meetings,” the official said.

What's next? Ending world hunger?

I know a guy who went about 10 years ago, via Canada. He had 3 women spend 2 days and 2 nights with him for something ridiculously low, like $100 total. He thought the food was good and the hotels, right on the beach, were nice and everything is cheap. Cohiba Espendidos that don't cost a 2nd mortgage is going to be nice.

I wonder. I mean, they've seen with their own eyes the results of socialism/communism right?

There would almost have to be some great local seafood opportunities. But I'd give it a few years, give them some time to invest some of the influx of yanqui dollars.

I should clarify this by stating that my window for such activities closed when I got married. I want to see Cuba raw, before the ******* restaurant and hotel chains take over.

As I recall, Cuban-Americans break about 60% Republican.

I don't think they let them fish because too many would just keep on going to FL.

If you're interested in Cuba I would HIGHLY recommend the movie "Buena Vista Social Club". Netflix has it.

Once tourism picks up, I suspect there will be an uptick in restaurant openings. Economically oppressed third-world country residents don't dine out much, I would guess, so no need for many restaurants.

From what I can tell, the food is lousy because the hotels and restaurants are owned by the government. They are letting some people open small restaurants in their homes.
Remember, the rest of the world can travel freely to Cuba. It's only us that are not allowed.

Stupid commies and commie love. It figures one commie sympathizer and one who has been immersed in that bullshit since childhood would want to make these changes.Yes, the Cubans know very well how ****** socialism&communism is.

Right, but what would other Caribbean resort destinations be like without US tourism?
So you're saying that we're the economic engine of the Carribean? The Canadians and Swedes don't kick in enough?

Given its proximity to the US, I predict once relations are normalized, their tourism industry will grow 3-4 times its current size within a year or two. Going to Cuba from Europe is a fairly substantial trip. From the US (particularly the east coast), it'll be a huge weekend getaway. 20-30 minute flight from Florida, 3 hours from New York... Don't forget that all the US-based cruise lines will now stop there.

I would buy property there if anyone is ever allowed to buy property there.

so the new casinos and hotels are on the horizon, right?

Cubans haven't been allowed to own boats for 50 years

there must be boatloads 300 lb red snappers just ready to catch

I'm there

I know that one...a socialist, Marxist, and communist walk into a room..

in all honesty I am fine with this... its well overdue and probably dragged out past the fall of the soviets only because of piss and vinegar on both sides... they are far to close to keep a steaming rivalry simmering...

The USA is the only nation that embargoes Cuba so it isn't like lifting travel and trade restrictions will have much effect.

The person most angry about this is Putin or maybe Marco Rubio. I think this is another payback for his Ukrainian moves.
Once the Castros pass, I believe communism disappears and this will help get a jump on that.

The Caribbean islands are our best trading partners, since they need more from us than we need from them, so we end up
with trading surpluses. Maybe someday Hershey can get back its sugarcane fields.

Agree. Normalizing relations with Cuba and cutting back NASA are the two things where I agree with Bomma. We trade with nations that are worse human right violators than Cuba. I need my cheap winter home with the good cigars and rum. And hookers.
