Cuba, baby!

So Cuba is communist and America hasn't had any influence at all there for decades. It must be a veritable Eden with no income inequality, no gender inequality, workers whistle a tune on their way to work where they do excellent work despite the fact that they make the same salary if they do **** work.

There are plenty of 57 Chevys down there if your looking for one with little to no rust

what you going to do - drive one back?

none of them are original - been rebuilt so many times there's nothing left but Euro parts holding them together, or so I heard

the only reason I'd go there is for the fishing - but they charge Euro prices for that too - **** em, our beaches are better here

7 nights 6 fishing days, $1990 EUROS PER ANGLER

Its only 90 miles....see that big boat in the background?
I agree with the fishing though, a good bit of untouched reefs and wrecks.

What's that in yanqi dollars? I'd seriously love to tangle with some permit, tarpon, sails, dolphin, etc. Pretty disappointing trip on Tampa Bay last spring out of Siesta Key, a few ladyfish, mackerel one flounder and that was around 5 bills for 4 hours including tip. Wrong time of year I guess colder than a ***** that morning.

Cuba scenes in the second half of the video.

You should do Tarpon season.

I laugh that the biggest argument for continuing the embargo is Cuba's human rights violations... half our country is made in china, who is just as communist and ten times worse on the human rights violations....

The diving also, I think Confluence is a major investor in several Cubano dive shops.

I also think most of the better cigar makers have escaped to the Dominican Republic or Brazil, along with their favorite seed stock. It's been awhile since I have had a Cuban cigar that was good enough to brag about, Miami imports like Oliva and Cibao are even rated better than the Cuban Cohibas.

about $2500

you need to head to the Keys for flats fishing...spring (Feb-Apr) and fall (Oct) are good months

Yeah, thanks, need to look into that......never been able to afford it. Just happened to get to SK for a week last year in March w/ a bunch of other folks so did what I could afford in the area. Not sure I could swing what a Keys flats trip might take. Building a 7 wt fly rod now since my 3 wt came out so well. Maybe a 9 or 10 wt next so I'll at least have a rod ready to go!

Lets clear up a few things. I have been many, many times. I got married there.

From what I can tell, the food is lousy because the hotels and restaurants are owned by the government. They are letting some people open small restaurants in their homes.
Remember, the rest of the world can travel freely to Cuba. It's only us that are not allowed.

Food at some cheap hotels is terrible. At others it is awesome. You get what you pay for. Hotels are developed and paid for by foreigners, with ownership reverting to the state run companies after time periods. They do go down in all aspects, but some have recovered nicely.

Stupid commies and commie love. It figures one commie sympathizer and one who has been immersed in that bullshit since childhood would want to make these changes.Yes, the Cubans know very well how ****** socialism&communism is.

And yet many Cubanos are very happy. Simply happy. Many are not, but many are. It is not black and white, and certainly not as portrayed by the Cuban community in Miami.

Right, but what would other Caribbean resort destinations be like without US tourism?

Better

I would buy property there if anyone is ever allowed to buy property there.

Many have property; how the permitting turns out, and then how resources get allocated, are key. Don't forget to bring batteries.

so the new casinos and hotels are on the horizon, right?

Cubans haven't been allowed to own boats for 50 years

there must be boatloads 300 lb red snappers just ready to catch

I'm there

Hotels, yes; not so sure about casinos.

There are no fish close to shore. Great reefs because of the lack of pollution (see above about resorts without Americans), but the fish get taken to feed the people.

You gotta go way out, or to the southern protected areas.

see above. Fish only a long way out.

Income equality exists. I have been diving with dive instructors who are qualified brain surgeons, because fat gringos in neoprene tip. In public, gender equality exists, and workers are generally happy; slow like everywhere south, but not unhappy.

Typical political hypocrisy

I can hook you up to dive shops. Don't own, but know Cubanos who have support. Best is Bahia de Cochinos. Fidel lives on the more pristine side. Love it down there, though y'alls might not like some of the clearly evident sentiment on very public display on the drive down.

I think the chosen one is heading into the "legacy stage" of his presidency. lord knows Obama care is not what he wants it to be known as, but this? not bad.

Obama has just declared again, on the world stage, to another assclown, that he is either a weakling, sympathizer, idiot, or all of the above.
