Wow, talk about differences of opinion. Pro Football Focus gave Big Dan the worst grade of any defensive player Sat while others I have read thought he had a good game ?

PFF couldn't analyze the skill sets of a water boy. They're just contrarians who take an opposing view simply to show that they're different than other pundits. I would be more concerned if PFF gave big Dan high marks.

Big Dan's impact in the Bills game can be gauged by the attention he commanded, often not only double, but triple teamed. So naturally his number of tackles would be down. PFF ignores that factor in its flawed method of rating players.

They had Chris Hubbard, who no one even knew was on the field, higher than Ben Roethlisberger, who threw two touchdown passes and only had three incompletions (one a drop). If that isn't enough, they had Antown Blake ranked higher than McCullers. The same Blake who struggled in coverage and was flagged.

Yep, Blake had a rough night. Good thing he is good on ST because the coverage smiles he has shown have been underwhelming.

PFF will probably give Johnny M high marks after tonight's Redskins/Browns game.

McCullers impressed against the Giants.....not so much against the Bills.

Sort of like a rookie.........

The Bills had just spent a few days scrimmaging against the Steelers and maybe they learned how to handle Big Dan. Could be a valuable learning experience for McCullers.

Actually, with Mitchell's coaching, he has become better at keeping low, maneuvering the linemen trying to block him and collapsing the pocket. This is shown (along with what happens when he doesn't stay low) in the Depot article cited earlier. The kid is a 6th round pick who from all accounts (Mitchell included) has progressed a little more rapidly than they anticipated. Howver, if you, I or anyone else expects him to play like Casey right away, we're all in for a big disappointment. Keeping in mind his draft position and the fact that he has progressed (again, according to his preseason film - not college, and his coaches) I'm pleasantly surprised with where he's at right now and could care less about what his college tape shows.

Personally I don't see much difference between his college tape and his preseason snaps. Dan is simply a massive human being and demands attention, but he's still getting high on a good amount of his snaps. I think it was pretty telling that in the Bills game they put Fangupo in for big D on 3rd down. If he was getting better movement I think he would have at least got a few 3rd down snaps.

Yea, they double and triple teamed him, which frees up the linebackers. So Dan's impact was just as impressive, just not in a way that shows up in stats.

I can't see any way we try to sneak this guy on the PS. He will get snatched up by someone just because of his size. He may be a little raw but I think with some good coaching he can up his game. I like the big fella.

I see your point about getting high. It's a habit he is going to have to get rid of in order to reach his potential. I feel that he's made progress in that regards during the preseason. Still a way to go. But, there is value in being a "massive human being who demands attention" also ... as opposed to say someone playing somewhat out of position who can't/doesn't anchor well and doesn't demand a double team. Personally, if it's me, I keep Dan on the 53 over the OLDER and not much less of a project Fangupo.

Mitch is working this kid HARD. When his technique catches up to his physicality...back the **** up, Buttercup.

I'm seeing this more and more. Didn't PFF rate Bill Gay as a top CB? Those guys seem to make a lot of strange calls...football metrics...

Thanks for trying, Bermuda. (cue standing at the podium) I'd like to thank the academy and my co-stars for making this night possible to get this award...........

Excellent point, SD...

They rated him as one of the top nickel backs in the league, I think fourth. He is pretty good in that role, so I can't disagree with that assessment.

Yeah, he is a decent nickel guy.
