David Carr...WTF Is He Thinking?

I don't understand his argument. Maybe I'm a homer but I didn't see any decline last season. So because he's a year older, he's going to decline this year? But Lord Brady isn't?

LOL..If nothing else it killed some time and gave us something to talk about while waiting for real football to get started.

I don't know man..I don't watch all the games every week, I only watch our/my team and can only comment on what I believe I see. If you are a stout Ben guy, then I applaud ya. I just don't see the same production in his future, I see a definite decline with a 14 year vet....but there are solid arguments on both sides..

Decline is normal with age, especially with the way Ben plays the position.
He still gets it done though and gives the Steelers a better chance at winning.

He's top 5 for sure.

Did his brother make the playoffs last year and what was Arron Roger's stat line for last year????

Just saw the Stephen A. piece on ESPN. He went OFF on David Carr. It was absolutely epic!. He said he thought it was Derek Carr making the comment. Hilarious!

I get they need contrasting opinions for those shows to work, but the other two guys who agreed with Carr sounded like complete clowns on that show.

I actually just watched the David Carr peice where he defends his picks..................

what a TOOL. He is. I'd suggest drug testing if he was still in the NFL.

Ben has always and will always throw some dumb interceptions, but he makes equal, if not more incredible plays that few others in the history of the game can make because of that same style. Say what you want about the slow start, but there was something more than he was coming out of the gates slowly. The offensive scheme wasn't the same as two years again and when they finally said screw it and modified the scheme, he went off and was the most productive QB in the entire league down the stretch.

But look at who this guy has ahead of Ben:

1. Brady - Fair
2. Rodgers - Fair
3. Brees - Fair
4. Carr - Embarrassing how laughable this is. At his best, Carr has never been at top 5 QB.
5. Wilson - I put Wilson right below Ben.
6. Stafford - Have fun putting up all of those numbers seemingly always playing from behind.
7. Rivers - Team hasn't won more than nine games since 2009.
8. Ryan - Ben is knocked for having Brown and Bell, but Ryan is credited for elevating those around him (Jones and Freeman...okay) and talks up the addition of Ridley.
9. Newton - Makes it out like Newton can put up 400 yards at will? Seriously? He's done it twice and it was his first two games. Ben is tied for fourth ALL-TIME with 10.
10. Garoppolo - I actually think he's too low heading into 2018, but not higher than Ben.

I think Carr's point was about how good these QB's would be in 2018. His points about Ben are absolutely valid in that the O line we have allows Ben and his slow reads time to complete the play. One thing that I would add to Carr's analysis is that Haley was A BIG PART of Ben's ridiculous numbers the past few years.

Don't be surprised if even with all the talent on this team, but with the guy brought in to keep him under control gone, Ben starts off or goes into a pattern of dumb decisions along with the picks to go with them, I.E. Arians 2.0

When he went against the Jags we saw what happens when this supposed "elite" QB meets up with an elite secondary......twice. Then we saw a truly elite QB get the job done against that same secondary in the AFCCG.

Ben is not that, and never will be. Great football player? Undoubtedly. Elite QB......ahhh..no, that's just the view from behind the black and gold shades.

Let the Mason Rudolph era begin, can't wait anyway!

Yet Ben seemed to be at his best and put up his best numbers when he was in the no-huddle & hurry-up 2 minute offense. And last season, when Fichtner came down from the booth to be the buffer between he & Haley, Ben looked like a different QB the last half of the season compared to the first half of the season. No doubt Haley designed an offense to help Ben get rid of the ball quicker, but you act like Todd Haley MADE Ben Roethlisberger.

Ben had a 2.46% INT ratio under Arians and had a 2.36% INT ratio under Haley, a very slight difference. So to my first point, Haley didn't make Roethlisberger.

Why do you want to run Ben out of town? Especially after the last half season he had last year?

The Rudolph part was a joke. Haley didn't make Ben , but he sure helped turn him into a serviceable pocket passer. the talent around Ben at this point in his career is "making Ben" seem way better than he is. Again when faced with a stout secondary where brains and skill are foremost he comes up short.

Imagine Brady, Brees, Wentz, etc. on this team.....enough said.

This is what a cerebral QB sounds like, one that has been brought up as a pocket passer yet also can leave the pocket and be effective.

Watch how quickly he absorbs everything Mariucci tells him AFTER Mooch tries to distract him first. Skip to 2:25

Ben is a elite QB, more people would agree than disagree.

Have to disagree with this odd opinion.

2 SB wins, 3 visits. Only one losing season.

Only QB with 3 -500 yard games.

Ben haters make me laugh.

I can also laugh with those "stats you are using.

1st Super Bowl he did practically nothing

Second SB took everything he had including a 100 yard pick six run back from Harrison and an MVP performance from Holmes......to beat a pathetic 9-7 fluke team.

3rd SB carried there by a defense that was #1 at fewest points allowed that season(14.5) time and again.....

I guess by your logic Tomlin has NO losing seasons, therefore he is a better coach than Cowher and Noll......right?

But yeah he has two SB wins and a third appearance.......................

Even when they are cheatriot's fans. Ben Rothlesberger is an ELITE QB from all perspectives. To slow to make a read............ What did he hang on that elite Jagoffs defense..... Like 40 some. A-N-D if you're going to give t*mmy b*y this team while it is shining then you must also give him the team when the OL was struggling. It was near the worst OL in the league for several years......oh wait if you did that then t*mmy b*y wouldn't be around to lead this team for you see,.......his career would have been over due to getting the pISS. Knocked out of him. Ben Rothlesberger covers up a lot of things on this team and that is as ELITE as you can get.

Lol, "serviceable." Sorry, but Ben is making that talent more than that talent is making Ben.

He still accomplished a nice run in route to that 1st SB he did practically nothing. You know nothing enough to win the SB.

Second SB you are knocking him because of the team he faced? ridiculous. Yeah it was Holmes making Ben look good not vice versa.

How many Steelers records has he already taken over?

And SBs are a part of a players legacy it is why the play the game!

As far as Tomlin goes that has been discussed in Tomlin's threads. Which is where I will leave that convo.

This is about Ben being elite.Which his whole body of work backs up.

Your dislike for him for whatever reason won't change that.

1.) Ben Rothlessberger fastest QB to 50 wins.............I wonder how long it took t*mmy b*y???

2.) Ben Rothlessberger has a rookie consecutive win streak that will never be broken.........

Pretty good start of an elite career more to follow

1st Super Bowl he did practically nothing

You have amnesia for that playoff run they went on in 2005? Where Ben went off for 680 yards (9+ YPA), 7 TDs to 1 INT for a combined passer rating of 123? He blew the doors off in those playoffs, and anyone (especially Steelers fans who experienced QB purgatory for 25+ years) with an objective eye knew what he did for that team that year. Even if he laid a turd in the Super Bowl (in which he still did enough to help them win), they wouldn't have been there without #7.

As for the consensus greatest throw and catch for a TD in Super Bowl history that occurred in Super Bowl XLIII, if you want to diminish that because they played a 9-7 team, go ahead and be miserable while the rest of us revel in and savor an absolutely legendary play.

Damn, you sure are miserable.

Damn, you sure are miserable.

And you sure are narrow minded.

Why would it make me upset or miserable whether Ben is elite or not? It's just my opinion and the consensus of all the experts, that's all.
